Peaceful Site on Edge of Lake District

Very peaceful and easily reached and accessed from M6 motorway.Only used as a short stay of 2 nights as a stopover as part of a longer holiday. But we wished we could have stayed longer as we found it a very peaceful and relaxing site. Our pitch had far reaching views over Morcambe Bay.It is a 25 minute walk into Victorian Grange over Sands, with a very pleasant promenade walk. Ravenglass is a longer drive, for the smaller gauge railway into Eskdale.Couple of points to mention, one is there is a decieving hairpin bend as you leave the main road on the lane into Meathop,I only point this out as I met a van (white van man)coming the other way at this point, and a couple of vans were on quite a high level of blocks at the front of their van.

Great stay

Stayed a week at Meathop in our motor home, hiring a car in Kendall to give us greater flexibility in driving around the Lake District's narrow lanes. Site was in very good order, well kept and very clean. We'd read reviews that said we might need a third levelling block on the sloping pitches and we did need it, so be prepared. That said, some other pitches looked much flatter than the one we chose. Once the van was up on its blocks, the habitation door was well above the hard-standing and we were very grateful to the helpful warden who immediately offered to lend us a step for the duration of our stay. Enjoyed a very decent meal at the nearby Woodlands Hotel, which is just a 10-min stroll away. Our stay was largely before school term ended and the site was peaceful and not crowded during that time, though we could see this was changing by the end of the week when several more families arrived. The tv booster cable (run off the hook-up bollard) was absolutely necessary to get a signal. We did not pay for the Site's wifi, as earlier reviews had said it was problematic, so chose to use our mobile phone's monthly data/wifi allowance instead and that worked very well. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this site.

Lovely Site

We spent a week in late June at this lovely site in the South Lakes. Wardens were excellent, and site itself is clean and well kept. A wonderful place to stay for a peaceful and relaxing break. Grange over Sands is a must visit. Full of Victorian charm

Great site.

As with other reviewers, the site very nice enjoyed our stay here. No place to walk the dog except the woods which aren't very large. Five minutes walk at the most. The water pressure is low, and does take time to fill the sink. But that just gives you more time to chat to other campers. The lane heading up to the site needs cutting back to give more chance of spotting people heading out. As it can be a bit tight passing other caravaners. Who leave after noon.

Nice walk into Grange-over-Sands

A lovely site in a lovely location. It's close to Grange-over-Sands, which has lots of shops and an amazing walk along the esplanade with beautiful views of Morecambe Bay. The site was quite noisy while we were there due to it being during the school holiday. The only other critisism that I have is about the hot water pressure, it took ages to fill the washing up sink and the shower was without decent pressure although the water was hot.

Pleasant week

In 35 years of membership our first visit. Can't see why we have always ruled this site out in the pas when visiting the Lake District. There are lovely views and Grange over Sands is a very nice place with the Kent Estuary providing a good backdrop. It's easy to drive to a wide range of places and the access is quick and easy apart from negotiating the access. So please follow the 12:00 rule or you will have to reverse!!!! Only down side is the lack of walks from the site directly. Also the broadband is of limited value. We will return..

Cannot believe we have not stayed here before

We stayed on this site for a week over Easter and considering how close to home it is we could understand why we had not been before. The site is very well maintained in a stunning location with wonderful views. All four wardens were very helpful and pleasant. Toilets/showers were very clean considering the site was full. The pub on the adjacent site has reasonably priced drinks, although we ate there one evening and we were disappointed with both the service and food. We hope to revisit this site many times.
