We have just returned from 8 nights a Meathop, this is a great site. Good position less than half an hour off the M6 junction 36. This is a good base to explore the Lake District with the added advantage of the sea being close and visible from a few of the pitches. We will certainly use this site again. The woodland hotel was very handy being less than a 10 minute walk up the driveway, it is well priced. We had a three course meal that was very good. Pint of wainwrights bitter £3, San Miguel £3.60. Windermere Lakeside is close to catch the boat to travel up the lake. We had the added advantage of very good weather for May.
First visit, won't be last.
Very easy to get to site and although approach is narrow, it is not a problem. Once on site the wardens were very friendly and explained all that was needed to enjoy the site. Well kept and toilet block was spotless. Although a lot of trees we found a superb pitch that had sun for the majority of the day and good line of reception for satellite dish. The weather whilst there was excellent and obviously this enhanced the stay.
Woodlands Hotel was good for a meal and a good pint of cask ale (wainrights), although not a bar that you would spend a few hours in. Only a 10 minutes walk.
Grange is approx 45 min walk along quiet country lanes or 10 mins in car. Kendal easy drive approx 10 miles.
Highly recommend the site for a peaceful break on the edge of the lovely Lake District.
Perfect for us
What a lovely site. We were desperate for a peaceful, relaxing week away and Meathop Fell certainly delivered for us. It was so clean and tidy and the wardens were very pleasant. Loved it here
Peaceful Break
Lovely location at the foot of the South Lakes, hands for Grange over Sands, Ulverston, Kendal and Windermere /Boweness. Various pitches covering all needs, hard standings in tree shade or open sun, grassed meadow pitches, and small alcoves. Usual caravan club standards, but no security barrier. We had a lovely sunny weekend, and decided to do the coast road from Ulverston to Barrow, surprisingly lovely route and a change from the busy mountain and fell towns and villages. Will be going again. Approach road a lot better this year with hedges cut well back.
Lovely site ..... it's all been said before
Super location great for walks or to use as a base for the South Lakes area. The site was immaculately kept, with a great variety of well positioned pitches. Handy to have the hotel for a change of scene if you need it!
The service was up to the Clubs usual very high standards - thanks!
We will be back!
Highly recomended
This site is quiet, spotless, and in an excellent position for days out in the lake district. We really loved our stay at this site and were lucky enough to get a pitch with a view of the bay. There is a hotel restaurant within walking distance. If you are in a motorhome there is a bus service nearby but is a 15min walk down the lane. A few pitches (a very few but they happen to be those with good views) are sloping to you will require appropriate chocks if you intend to occupy. Overall a great site

Great site for touring
Great site easy to get, very relaxing with friendly staff, site and facilities well maintained'
Grange over sands is a nice village with plenty of shops, The park is great with plenty of geese and ducks to feed, there is feed available in a shop over the road.
Peaceful
This site encapsulates peace and quiet, the whole site is clean and well maintained and showers and toilets spotless and warm. The staff were helpful and polite . Even though the site was almost full there was still a restful atmosphere. As motorhomers we decided to stay parked and walked into Grange which took almost an hour on a quiet pleasant back road past farms and a golf course. This would be the only downside for us,the location as for longer stays you would need bikes or accept a longish walk to services.there is a very welcoming hotel/ pub/ chalet park only 5mins walk through the wood though that serves good food and drink.
Great little site
We stayed here for one night and found the site to be large, clean and peaceful with great views and friendly staff. TV reception not very good and since we'd forgotten our TV booster cable (they sell them in the little shop but we didn't feel inclined to shell out £15 on another one) we had to resort to watching a DVD. The Woodlands hotel is a short walk away and accepts non-residents in the bar so we popped along for a shandy or two and watched the end of the football. Great for a night or two but wouldn't want to stay any longer.
