Too remote

This site was not for us..very high up and not suitable if you are not a fit 'Walker, .. and too far from any facilities and as the shop is closed during covid difficult to get basic supplies. Dog walk is tiny...we used the woods which were ok. The hotel only did very basic pub food and rather expensive. One of the wardens was obviously not happy in her job...we found it a bit unfriendly...unlike the other site we stayed at. I realise this is terrible times for everyone but a smile doesn't cost much. But we had two lovely neighbours in the next motorhome that were so friendly and even posted cards for me. We drove round the lakes but they were very very busy. Not one we would visit again.

Needs Improvement

Good points Woodlands Hotel is a 5 minute walk and offers good food and drink Sheltered location from wind because of surrounding woods Most pitches are level and good quality Staff are very friendly Dog run is small but dogs can be let allowed off a lead Good beach for dogs and cafe at Walney Island at Barrow but 45 minutes drive away Nice towns to look around Ulverston and Kendal TV cable on mains bollard but interference on reception probably caused by water in cable Bad Points Water pressure is poor be prepared to wait. Water supply to chemical toilet was leaking and stewards did repair it during fortnight we were there Not many public paths outside site although there are lots of woods No information in information hut presumably because of virus Grange has no beach for humans or dogs and can be dangerous with quicksands Site reception does not have a shop so no basic foods or papers

Nice site but impossible to sleep

We Arrived at Meathop Fell after a long drive from Bunree Booking in was easy with helpful staff Meathop Fell is a well layed out site with a variety of pitches with good well maintained facilities There’s a nice cycle ride into Grange over sands Unfortunately we was pitched next to a couple with two dogs that they left in their van at 7pm to go out for the evening We was ready to retire for the night by 10pm after our long drive but the dogs that had been left in the van next to us were barking non stop making it impossible to sleep By 11pm still no return of the people and dogs still continue to bark non stop myself and others Couldn’t sleep and went outside but there was nothing we could do but wait for them to get back The couple eventually returned at 11.50pm I told them it was unreasonable for them to leave dogs alone like that They left at 7.30 the next morning before anything else could be said This is not the sort of night you expect to have to put up with

We have recently returned home after a weeks stay. We were recommended this site by friends, and have had a fantastic week inspite of the weather. The site itself is extremely well maintained, and the wardens are very friendly, and very organised as far as the recent Covid guidelines are concerned. This is our 3rd visit to a club site following the re-opening of our sites, and it is by far our best experience. On this site common sense prevails thank goodness, consequently the “elastic band” system works well, obviously there was the odd occasion where the wrong band was retrieved, or the band was left on the peg by mistake! The facilities were spotless and cleaned twice daily. Meathop Fell is ideally placed for exploring the Lakes, or going South to walk on Morecambe’s extensive Promenade. We will certainly return in the not too distant future.

Excellent first time experience

We stayed here for three days after the bank holiday and really enjoyed our visit. As first time caravanners with young children we were slightly nervous but there was a good selection of pitches, clear signposts upon arrival and the receptionist was very friendly and directed us to the easiest pitches to try. We were told we were welcome to drive round and select the one we wanted. Having done this we settled in. The facilities were spotless with reduced usage (no more than 6 guests at once) and twice daily cleaning. Site was quite busy but not noisy at all. Good distance from Grange over Sands and Windermere. Would highly recommend this site.

Excellent Bank Holiday Weekend

Brilliant weekend at Meathop Fell Club Site can’t fault this site stayed on numerous occasions at this site. The facilities were up to usual standard and the band system that was in operation worked well we didn’t have to queue once to use showers. Pitch was great over looking estuary glad we had a pickup to get us on a grass pitch. Definitely will be returning before end of season.

Shame about the weather!

After a glorious summer of lockdown in parched East Anglia we have just spent five days at this lovely site, with lush green grass and vegetation but barely a glimpse of the sun! However, still a very enjoyable visit. We consider the COVID 19 precautions in place to be robust and the staff worked very hard to maintain a high level of hygiene whilst still being cheerful and approachable. This is a quiet site, lots of dogs and only a few children even though it was August. A friendly, well run site in a beautiful location, and we will return!

The site has grown on us!

It's the third time on this site and we have grown to love it a little more each time. It's a little remote but lovely and peaceful in a delightful area not far from the pretty little town of Grange over Sands. The site offers a small number pitches with beautiful views over the bay (although we have never been able to get on one of these, you have to get lucky I suppose), some grass pitches and some which are hardstanding. Our pitch was a little sloping but nothing we couldn't deal with, it backed onto a small area of woodland which was pretty and, at the time we stayed, full of blackberries which we helped ourselves to and made some jam! The wardens were friendly when we booked in however we didn't have any other contact as it was not needed. The COVID regulations were clearly explained and the wrist band system worked well. The toilet/shower block was immaculately clean and we were grateful that these were open (unlike on many other sites!). The only small gripe I had was that there were notices in all the toilet cubicles threatening to shut the block 'with immediate effect' if any were left with 'waste' - I agree that the toilets should be left clean however they were worded quite aggressively and could have at least included a please and thank you or have a more pleasant tone we thought! Sounds quite petty but I think it's important to word notices carefully and be more supportive than threatening. We love the area, Grange is picturesque - we recommend a walk down the prom and an ice cream at the cafe at the end. The walk from Grange over Hamps Fell to the hospice and down to Cartmel is fantastic with stunning views, and Cartmel is lovely to visit. We like Kendal for shopping, Booths supermarket in Milnthorpe, Arnside for a walk down the beach and the chippy there is a must (ring to place your order and then eat on the little pier watching the sun go down). It's a bit of a walk from the site to the nearest town, Grange, down the road but great for cycling. The nearby Woodlands Hotel is the only place nearby, but has a nice bar and you can get pub food, nothing special but absolutely fine. We will definitely be going back to this site as it's convenient for us, it's very pleasant and we love the area. I just wish there were more fully serviced pitches as we never seem to be able to get one!

A lovely stay at Meathop Fell RUINED BY VANDALS.

Just had a lovely 3 night stay at Meathop Fell with my wife and grandaughter. We had our 3 bikes locked together outside our awning. Putting the bikes on the van when we were leaving this morning, I noticed both tyres on my wife's bike were flat. Being keen to get on with our journey I didn't check further. When I got home I saw both tyres and inner tubes had 3 inch knife cuts along the sidewalls right against the wheel rim. No reflection on CMC but it is a shame that such scum do visit their sites.

Pleasant stay at Meathop Fell

This was our first time visiting Meathop Fell. We arrived 2 days early as the Troutbeck site had a difficulty with their drains. The wardens at the site were very accommodating and supportive to us. We were surprised at how few pitches were available at 2p.m. We also thought that sites would reduce the amount of pitches taken in relation to being Covid secure. We found the wrist band system challenging at times as there are only three wrist bands allowed at any one time. We felt less pitches available would support the frustration of having to queue. We took our bikes and found a lovely lane outside the campsite that takes you all the way to Grange Over Sands via the seafront and the promenade. Weather was mixed with rain and sunshine. The camp is clean and tidy and well maintained by the wardens.
