Lovely peaceful visit!

Our second visit to Meathop Fell in mid October. Warm welcome at reception and found a pitch just where we wanted to be. Unfortunately after unhitching, my husband forgot to undo the brake cable and as he pulled the car away it snapped. He went to reception to ask where we might buy a replacement, and within minutes Neil, one of the wardens came down not only with a replacement but fitted it for us. We had been anticipating a trip to Ulverston to buy one and were worried about fitting it ourselves, so this was a wonderful gesture. This sort of kindness by the wardens is much appreciated. The facilities were all spotless. Each wristband had the pitch number written on, so everyone took their own away with them after showering or using the loo. The site was very busy, yet was always peaceful. With little light pollution the skies were wonderful at night. We had a power cut one evening for around 4 hours which affected a large area of Grange over Sands, and a notice was quickly put up in the reception window explaining how long long the power may be off. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and will be returning next October. Many thanks to all the wardens for their help and cheerfulness.

enjoyed stay

we planned for nearly 12 months to come to meathop fell c&mc site, we was not disappointed, its our kind of site, we booked a service pitch and used our own facilities on board our caravan, we prefer to do so, there is no point in booking a service pitch if your going to use on site facilities. I know that I have given the site full stars for family facilities I think families with children might find it a bit inadequate, children would probably need off site entertainment, for that you would have to drive as there is nothing really within walking distance, for us its perfect, walking on and around the site area with our dogs was great, there is a secure fenced dog area on site, we had more fun taking dogs out of site and for short drive to other area's like Grange where there is a small lake to walk around and promenade to walk along, we found the staff very helpful and friendly, we all kept our social distance from the staff and other visitors to site, we have already booked to come back in 2021 ( covid permitting) the site is very well looked after by the staff, cannot say about shower block as we didn't use them, We are looking forward to our next visit to meathop fell.

Long Weekend stay....

We arrived late afternoon after a stopover at Lakeland Motor Museum & welcomed with a smile. We had booked 'without awning' as that was what was available at the time & I asked if anything became available if they would let us know. By early evening we were told if we wanted to move to any alternative pitch that had become available due to cancellations then to do so & advise us (the wardens) in the morning. Lovely clean site & facilities, friendly & helpful staff, just a little remote for us as my wife cannot walk too far..... Thank you for being so accommodating.

Level Headed

We stayed here, the last site on our latest tour, We were very impressed by the site except so few of the remaining pitches were level. That is a minor gripe but a niggle for motorhomes. Some units looked precariously perched on ramps and levellers. Given the location and terrain the wifi and TV are remarkably good. The views over the estuary are spectacular. walks around the site, especialy to Grange Over Sands are beautiful. The facilities at this site are worth mentioning. They are very smart and kept spotlessly clean by a friendly, hard working staff. As with all the club sites we felt very comfortable and safe here.

Perfect Trip

Third time at this site, and first after lockdown. The site felt very safe, and the other visitors were all respectful. The wardens provided excellent service, particularly the gentleman who helped with positioning our aerial to get the best reception, in what is a notoriously tricky area. Additionally, the weather was perfect, with some glorious sunshine, showing the Lakes off at their best. What more could you want?

So peaceful

We will definitely visit Meathop Fell again, as we really enjoyed the peace and quiet and had a great, fully serviced pitch. First visit to this lovely site (first year with a caravan actually - bought earlier this year just before covid). On arrival we were offered a choice of the available pitches, which were all a generous size and well spaced. We had a problem with our waste water pipe but after a visit to reception we were equipped with new pipe/connectors and anything else we needed to get up and running at a very reasonable price. The staff were really friendly and helpful and made you feel that nothing was too much trouble. It felt like you were on a really small site as it was broken up into different areas all either edged with trees/shrubs or on different levels, no looking out upon rows and rows of caravans. The site itself was really well kept and the facilities immaculate with a good system in place for the Covid restrictions. Quiet country lanes for dog walking and not far into Grange-ove-Sands, where there was everything you may need - although a few essentials were available from reception which is always helpful. If you like nice quiet sites that are well looked after this is definitely worth a visit, not far from the M6 and well signposted. Thanks for a great stay!

Pleasant site and a lovely start to our club membership

This was our first caravan and motorhome club site that we've stayed at and was a lovely way to start off. It is a clean, compact site with level pitches. We were welcomed by a pleasant staff member and all was Covid safe. Like the amateurs we are we decided on a hard pitch not realising there are also grass pitches which made erecting the awning a fun time! However it was next to the play area which was perfect. Pitches were well spaced out and felt reassuring in the time of pandemic. The facilities are clean and frequently attended to. There are measures to prevent overcrowding which seemed to work well, although given that there only seemed to be one toilet block it's not really suitable for outfits without some sort of toilet facility (don't want to get caught short waiting!) The area is very picturesque. I have the OS maps app and identified a fair walk for us during our stay which took us through pastoral scenes, rugged fern covered hillsides, and country lanes. You could also walk to lovely Grange if you like a march. We were limited by short dog and human legs but if you're committed hikers there seem to be lots of interesting 5-10mile hikes that could be undertaken. I agree with another reviewer that short, interesting walks are in short supply, and apart from the nearby hotel bar there aren't many other close facilities but that didn't bother us for the weekend. All in all a lovely start to our Caravan & Motorhome club adventures!

Too remote

This site was not for us..very high up and not suitable if you are not a fit 'Walker, .. and too far from any facilities and as the shop is closed during covid difficult to get basic supplies. Dog walk is tiny...we used the woods which were ok. The hotel only did very basic pub food and rather expensive. One of the wardens was obviously not happy in her job...we found it a bit unfriendly...unlike the other site we stayed at. I realise this is terrible times for everyone but a smile doesn't cost much. But we had two lovely neighbours in the next motorhome that were so friendly and even posted cards for me. We drove round the lakes but they were very very busy. Not one we would visit again.

Needs Improvement

Good points Woodlands Hotel is a 5 minute walk and offers good food and drink Sheltered location from wind because of surrounding woods Most pitches are level and good quality Staff are very friendly Dog run is small but dogs can be let allowed off a lead Good beach for dogs and cafe at Walney Island at Barrow but 45 minutes drive away Nice towns to look around Ulverston and Kendal TV cable on mains bollard but interference on reception probably caused by water in cable Bad Points Water pressure is poor be prepared to wait. Water supply to chemical toilet was leaking and stewards did repair it during fortnight we were there Not many public paths outside site although there are lots of woods No information in information hut presumably because of virus Grange has no beach for humans or dogs and can be dangerous with quicksands Site reception does not have a shop so no basic foods or papers
