First and last time here

Booked this site as there are grass pitches. But did not expect the excuses for a pitch. its about time the club sorted these out. We could not get to level up at all. So we left our unit while we spoke to the warden on duty and said we would try a hardstanding. Chose a pitch and collected our key and collected our van off the so called grass pitch. when we got our chosen pitch another person was on it even though we had the key. So back to the miserable warden who said she didnt think we wanted that pitch and said you have to put something on the pitch to reserve WE HAD THE KEY. Eventually found a hardstanding at the other end of the site. There are very few level pitches and for people with walking problems its not suitable, Also why is there no secure barrier. Anyone can drive into the site. I saw several instances and no one checking who they were.

Excellent site, very helpful staff,

Arrived midweek 21st July, very short checking in time, beautiful weather (very hot ), facilities immaculate. The site staff do a fantastic job, I am puzzled by one reviewer commenting about the arrival time, not being clear. However, one size does not fit all, For example, my wife who sadly passed away last year found great difficulty in moving quickly, our departure time was therefore always on the last minute ( 12 noon), there are many other people in that position. For some people a ONE PM departure time would be preferred, for some, they would like a five pm departure and so it goes on, Speaking for myself the 12-noon departure, 1 pm arrival suits just fine. I recall a quote that seems to fit (lol) ( you can please some of the people some of the time but not all of the people all of the time). In addition, I would say that although reception may have been closed the site staff was all about the site checking things were in order. If I remember correctly there were 40 units coming in Friday and 50 units coming in Saturday, or the other way around, a lot of units for the site staff to attend, I can only speak from my and my partner's experience, we found the site staff to be helpful, hard-working and cheerful, A lovely site, my partner liked it so much, she has suggested a winter break. In Short lovely site, great staff, we will be back.

Best 2 weeks holiday yet!

We couldn’t have been made more welcome. Everyone in the office, reception and out and about on the site were so pleasant, helpful and generous. Nadine went out of her way to help me with any specific needs I had. The whole site is immaculate and beautifully presented with stunning flowers and really well maintained grounds. We were lucky enough to have a pitch in a quiet corner which felt like we had our own garden and the shade from the trees was most welcome in the scorching weather we had. All the facilities were spotless and maintained superbly. We couldn’t fault a thing! As for the location for walking and cycling we felt we had really nailed it. The site is right on a national cycle way with easy access to quiet, country lanes and ones that had hardly a pot hole! If you want to venture further the rides into the mountains aren’t that far and you have your choice of the less travelled delightful back lanes or the slightly busier popular cyclist routes. We found some stunning hikes and walks though the best of these required us to drive the Motorhomes few miles first. Grange over Sands has some really good Motorhome friendly car parking which made our choice of routes much wider than just walking from the site. Can’t recommend Meathope Fell highly enough. The best club site we have stayed on and we shall return. Thanks for an amazing holiday.

Check-in Chaos

I love this site and have previously rated it 5* and the site itself still deserves that. Usually I arrive early afternoon. This occasion I left Cartmel Races 11am, so was looking for details of earliest arrival time. A trawl of booking confirmation and app booking info suggested 12 noon, the usual check-in time. I waited in a lay-by until midday, then drove onto site. Reception was shut, until 1pm, and other units were already queuing waiting to get on site. The next hour was chaos with units arriving and blocking access, units were unable to leave, and eventually the queue blocked both local static caravan access, hotel access, then the public road. Rather than hoping new arrivals manage to find the new arrival time of 1pm - why not simply keep the universal arrival time of noon, but ask departing units to leave by 11am? Problem solved.

Not returning

Arrived day of football final not that I am a football fan but supporting England. Everything ok with check in went on a pitch opposite play park nice pitch but under trees. There proceeded to be rain all night and it was like someone throwing stones on roof. The next morning people were leaving so we decided to move. As being a motorhome and having a tow car I went up to see the wardens but it was closed. We saw a pitch which had no one on it no signs, cones indicating not to go on it so we pitched up. I looked for wardens eventually finding one we told him we had moved and he said he would change the key for us. We walked up to the office, his wife then said no you will have to move off I am saving it for someone who is disabled. I said there was no signs on it and she said I haven’t put it on yet. She then proceeded to shout this is why you should ask. I was taken back by her attitude and tried to explain I had but couldn’t find them. Can I add we didn’t move until 11 am I am sure she could have put a sign on it before this time. Anyway we will not be returning due to being spoke to like a child and shame on you caravan club for letting her.

Peaceful site, lovely welcome, excellent location.

Really enjoyed our visit. Wardens were really patient and welcoming. As expected some pitches better than others but all perfectly good. Lots of lovely visits to the local area. Grange Over Sands nearby is excellent and Leighton Moss well worth a visit.

Acceptable site with drawbacks

We have been to this site before and found the pitch choice poor, as expected, because of our late arrival on this popular site. On this latest occasion, our early 1.00 pm arrival ( as requested ) was stressful because of the queues that had already built up since noon. It was hectic and not relaxed in pitch choice. It was desperate, competitive stuff. No fault of the wardens who coped admirably with a difficult situation caused by time of arrival rule changes not fully appreciated by members ( new or long standing)? Who instigates these changes without realising the subsequent problems for wardens and other members? Maybe go back to all arriving at the nationally accepted noon slot. Not a good start for our 5 day stay but having pitched up we settled into a routine of enjoying the space and quiet atmosphere within the site. However the very odd, very large motorhome with loud music, no doubt due to the amplifying effect of door/cab speakers of their music systems, did spoil things. Maybe more people should help make these members aware of the problem they may be inadvertently causing. As always there is plenty to see and do in South Lakeland with walking, safe cycling and visiting numerous interesting places within a reasonable distance. Fellow members who were our neighbours with their friendly manner all added to the joy of being in this location but please get something done to sort out the confusion and pressure felt on arrival over the weekend period. On a note of hope for the future I understand that over the winter a fairly large number of diseased ash trees with die back will be felled. This can only help add more light to many areas which can suffer from deep shade for long parts of the day. Will we return? Of course we will as we have done before, but maybe with increased hesitancy.

Peaceful setting

This was our first visit and whilst only staying one night it was a very peaceful location and setting. The Wardens were helpful and polite and even recommended suitable pitches that were available. we stayed her on our way to Coniston and enjoyed its relaxed nature. We did a short walk from the site to the estuary and visited Grange's promenade. We certainly plan a return visit.

Lovely midweek stay

Phone call from manager asking what time we were do to arrive and had a pleasant welcome. Site spotless and great signage and information. We swopped from hardstanding to grass and it proved a challenge to get straight and level but it didn't spoil our break. Would defo book again.
