Time to roll back to previous forum?

it  looks like CC is performing its 'user acceptance' testing of the new forum in the live environment, ie we are testing it (and pointing out the myriad faults) in full public gaze...

this is (or should be) very embarrassing for those concerned, as all this 'testing' (and that is whats being done) should have been completed in a parallel testing environment, and have had a group of 'real' users giving it a damn good stress test for a good while....

im afraid what we have in full view is not fit for purpose and i suggest the CC eats Humble Pie and reverts to the previous forum so that all this work on the new forum can be completed where it should always have been....in private....

attempting to fire fight is always difficult, especially where so many users are bombarding the IT team with so many faults.....repairing these in real time will be difficult and will put the team under more time pressure, time that can be measured by everyone on the forum.

do this in the test environment and roll it out again when its functionality is properly understood and there is a decent team of experienced users helping to test it and sign it off properly....

whichever decision the club makes, i wish them luck, but they have put themselves between a rock and a hard place.....

however, sometimes, we have to admit we got it wrong, big up and get it sorted.....in private.

Light press, Goldie? Why does my Pad need a heavy tap, or two, to get anywhere on this forum but not other sites while yours only needs a light press?🤔

It is easier on a desktop PC, definitely, apart from the dreaded banner blocking the screen.

i agree with TW, often the ipad just ignores the press completely, somtimes it seems to accept the press by highlighting the text, but actually does nothing, sometimes it requires a third press to highlight the text and to cause an underlining which signifies some actual (snail pace) action...

its very inconsistent, im afraid.

Don't tend to use this forum that often as I find it one of the most complicated ones to follow with similar threads appearing in multiple sections.

However, having scanned through a few areas over the last few days and seen the number of complaints about the new IT improvements, complicated site fees, problems with wifi, problems with queuing at some sites etc, etc the one thing that has stood out to me is the lack of proper response from the club.

I was always under the impression that this is a CLUB and all members are part of it and as such are entitled to have their concerns taken seriously and responses should be forth coming.

There are so many threads it would be impossible to read them all so I may well have missed an area where responses occur and if so I apologise in advance.

I have only been affected by queueing on a handful of sites visited over the last 5 years. That is visiting over 200 sites (some visits were a revisit) an generally arriving within 15 mins of permitted arrival. I suspect that the queueing are on the same popular sites therefore and hardly widespread. That excludes the occasions when there is a van or two pulled up in front of me at the office.

I have been well pleased with wifi when available on a site and the club has indeed addressed peoples concerns. I amazes me that I am generally able to access the web before opening reflective blinds to check the weather and news whilst waiting for the kettle to boil.

As far as the IT side goes it strikes me that the server used for the forum barely copes. Hopefully when staff return after Christmas the Forum can be improved.

A lot of the "complaints/moans" seem  be from a very small vocal few who would find something to complain about no matter what was offeredundecided

happy new year, Corners....

i did say i wouldnt complain about the forum in this thread (although i an the OP) but i will try and answer your question...

firstly, i agree that the club should focus on its core busuness which is (was?) the the provision of campsites for members...obviously other things like insurances, ferries etc are providing significant contribution to the cc coffers....

to that end, we all know that IT is not their core competancy, and an off the shelf product, similar to those used on the major other forums (MHfacts, MH fun etc) would have delivered just about all the functionality most CT users were looking for.

however, the club decided to go its own way (is this surprising) and have delivered a very poor product.

ok, on the forum side, its only a forum and perhaps doesn't really matter, but the poor standards used led to a poor migration of data, with many informative pieces (stickies, stories) being lost in the changeover.

more to the point, CL sites lost the bulk of their precious and hard fought reviews, which could actually affect their business moving forward.

again, this is something that should be recoverable, but it is the almost total lack of customer focus that has really been the eye opener from this whole sorry process....

no integrated list of the recognised faults, no process for delivering the easy (but annoying) navigation wins quickly in single release.

no commitment to those who have lost data that this will be put right (its a tough job, will have to be done manually, may never get there.....) not the sort of response folk wanted to hear.

so, im not complaining about the forum, per se, but the dismissive attitude of the club to those struggling with these 'improved tools' certainly takes the biscuit and could be improved.

Thanks for the reply BB

You make some good points which can't be argued against. It's just that to me it is not that bad and not good either I agree. But as long as the club listens to its customers for those area that really affect me and you (sorry not speaking for you there) for example the sites, booking, insurance and get that right? and coupled with (IMHO) those who use CT are a small proportion of total users, does it matter so much about CT?

I don't think it the numbers posting on here are that insignificant (the Club will know) Yes there is a hard core but there are many many members who only post now and again. Lets face it, if you had bought this forum software in a shop you would take it back. Yes it is just useable but it takes far too much keyboard/finger and mouse effort to use it. Improve it as suggest many times and you could see many more posting regularly.

Corners, yes i agree with you in that its only a forum and it is (just about usable)...

however, like others on here, its the lack of sensible objective information regarding the process to correct this moving forward that is the issue....poor communication (just about excusable) now becoming contempt for customers (which is not)?

Phil, above, makes the same point that, despite a barrage of threads/posts highlighting aspects of the club that are causing concern, there is no engagement....surely this forum (especially sporting an 'ask the expert' section) is exactly the place to soothe FAQs raised in these areas?

and as for JVB's 'party line' of folk always having something to complain about, i guess this may be the attitude in EG Towers?

they're certainly keeping very quiet about things....
