Time to roll back to previous forum?

it  looks like CC is performing its 'user acceptance' testing of the new forum in the live environment, ie we are testing it (and pointing out the myriad faults) in full public gaze...

this is (or should be) very embarrassing for those concerned, as all this 'testing' (and that is whats being done) should have been completed in a parallel testing environment, and have had a group of 'real' users giving it a damn good stress test for a good while....

im afraid what we have in full view is not fit for purpose and i suggest the CC eats Humble Pie and reverts to the previous forum so that all this work on the new forum can be completed where it should always have been....in private....

attempting to fire fight is always difficult, especially where so many users are bombarding the IT team with so many faults.....repairing these in real time will be difficult and will put the team under more time pressure, time that can be measured by everyone on the forum.

do this in the test environment and roll it out again when its functionality is properly understood and there is a decent team of experienced users helping to test it and sign it off properly....

whichever decision the club makes, i wish them luck, but they have put themselves between a rock and a hard place.....

however, sometimes, we have to admit we got it wrong, big up and get it sorted.....in private.

For me Corners ,it's only small things that need tweaking like

1 . Logging on takes to many clicks to get back to where you were

2.posts that I have looked and read still say "new" when I have gone back to them a while later

3.who the last poster was ,not just the last time a new post was done

and some of the navigation round the site booking is not obvious

but I'm happy to see what the IT team are going to sort in the new year

Things can only get bettersmile

There issue of 'new' posts has been raised. I pointed out that this aspect was providing inaccurate information a day or two ago. Subsequently any form of indication disappeared altogether. It then reappeared providing a different take o what constituted 'unread' posts. I see this morning that any form of indication of 'unread/new' has again disappeared completely.

This tells me that they are trying different formulations and self-evidently  DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Poor coding is not being corrected but merely different thing are being tried out to see what might work.

Moving further through the forum, I discover that the latest effort appears to be that all posts since login get flagged as 'new'.

CC, listen very carefully I shall say zis only vonce.

Posts flagged as new should refer to any post added since the thread was last visited. A "goto last unread post" button would be most welcome but that is probably asking too much of your limited capabilities.

A happy new Year to you BB

The question is this:

What is the club primary aim? Is is to have a very good network of sites that people want to use? (I know if people think may not think sites areis good but that's a separate question and anyway a lot of people want to use clubs sites) and a very good booking system?

Or is it to have a fantastic CT site?

CT won't drive people away from using clubs sites will it?

happy new year, Corners....

i did say i wouldnt complain about the forum in this thread (although i an the OP) but i will try and answer your question...

firstly, i agree that the club should focus on its core busuness which is (was?) the the provision of campsites for members...obviously other things like insurances, ferries etc are providing significant contribution to the cc coffers....

to that end, we all know that IT is not their core competancy, and an off the shelf product, similar to those used on the major other forums (MHfacts, MH fun etc) would have delivered just about all the functionality most CT users were looking for.

however, the club decided to go its own way (is this surprising) and have delivered a very poor product.

ok, on the forum side, its only a forum and perhaps doesn't really matter, but the poor standards used led to a poor migration of data, with many informative pieces (stickies, stories) being lost in the changeover.

more to the point, CL sites lost the bulk of their precious and hard fought reviews, which could actually affect their business moving forward.

again, this is something that should be recoverable, but it is the almost total lack of customer focus that has really been the eye opener from this whole sorry process....

no integrated list of the recognised faults, no process for delivering the easy (but annoying) navigation wins quickly in single release.

no commitment to those who have lost data that this will be put right (its a tough job, will have to be done manually, may never get there.....) not the sort of response folk wanted to hear.

so, im not complaining about the forum, per se, but the dismissive attitude of the club to those struggling with these 'improved tools' certainly takes the biscuit and could be improved.

I used to use Club Together every day but since the changes I hardly bother now. It was good before because you could see all the posts as they happened and then you could go into any particular section you wanted to follow. I think the best solution is to go back to the original format as it was! Please! 😿

Well Bugs, I don't expect the club to jump through hoops!

I expect a multi million pound organisation to be able to produce a bog standard forum that is usable and comparable to all the others on the net.

However I think I need to button my lip for the foreseeable future as without a PM system it is not possible to comment reasonable to any particular poster.

Anyway I need to get back to the Chatsworth thread and join the other multitude of moaners! (other moaning threads are available!)surprisedsealed

Happy New Year to you and all members and especially those who really are trying to sort the forum out!smile

Light press, Goldie? Why does my Pad need a heavy tap, or two, to get anywhere on this forum but not other sites while yours only needs a light press?🤔

It is easier on a desktop PC, definitely, apart from the dreaded banner blocking the screen.
