Time to roll back to previous forum?

it  looks like CC is performing its 'user acceptance' testing of the new forum in the live environment, ie we are testing it (and pointing out the myriad faults) in full public gaze...

this is (or should be) very embarrassing for those concerned, as all this 'testing' (and that is whats being done) should have been completed in a parallel testing environment, and have had a group of 'real' users giving it a damn good stress test for a good while....

im afraid what we have in full view is not fit for purpose and i suggest the CC eats Humble Pie and reverts to the previous forum so that all this work on the new forum can be completed where it should always have been....in private....

attempting to fire fight is always difficult, especially where so many users are bombarding the IT team with so many faults.....repairing these in real time will be difficult and will put the team under more time pressure, time that can be measured by everyone on the forum.

do this in the test environment and roll it out again when its functionality is properly understood and there is a decent team of experienced users helping to test it and sign it off properly....

whichever decision the club makes, i wish them luck, but they have put themselves between a rock and a hard place.....

however, sometimes, we have to admit we got it wrong, big up and get it sorted.....in private.

Whilst I can, to a degree, understand DK's plea for patience, I fear that the goodwill that this requires has been exhausted by the previous performance of the IT department.

I have been absent for a couple of weeks and, AFAICT, none of the highlighted shortcomings of the new site have been addressed in the interim, notwithstanding the comparative ease with which some of them could be implemented.

It is now almost three weeks since launch of the new site and the plea for another four weeks grace to sort out a site that was nine months late in the first place does tend to invite derision.

I would ask this question - Do you seriously believe that this forum will be any better and get anywhere near approaching the expressed requirements of the membership within that time frame?

When we are just a few in over one million we don't really matter as suggested by a mod!

When the best communication we get suggests that a few minor tweaks are required to sort this new exciting and fresh looking site out. Sadly it is still not even readable by some people.

It is better than moaning about the weather though....trouble is it has the same effect.....Nil!surprisedsmile

Happy New Year to one and allsealed

"We don't really matter" - Erm, no that's not what I said, EJB.

My point was - why should we expect the Club to jump through hoops just because a handfull of people on this forum are unhappy with aspects of the forum and say so - over and over again ad nauseum?

No-one is saying the forum is perfect. In fact there is no such thing as a perfect forum, because people have different personal preferences.

But we do know that The Community Manager has listened to what people on here have said, has logged the issues and has stated that they will be dealt with. And yes, some of the fixes may take some time.

Against this background, for people to then keep repeating the same moans over and over again without actually saying anything new or adding anything useful is OTT in my view.

Cheers

Bugs

Happy New Year to you BB.

It's not the technology which will eventually drive me away from this forum -  it's the attitude of some people who post on here. The constant grumbling, complaining, carping and criticising is depressing. I have sat it out through 2016 with weeks of endless posts complaining about  the caravanner of the year competition, the removal of mops, ball games, the 5mph speed limit, arrival times, dogs, children, and wardens. Complaint after complaint on this forum on every topic that comes up. And now some want the long loved old forum back - which they complained about repeatedly and remorselessly.

As DK pleaded earlier, Give us a break please. It's 2017. I'm going to the pub.

Im sorry if my opinion is not shared by you, but thats democracy.

having spent the latter part of my working life delivering IT services, i hate poor service, poor communication and a dismissive attitude to ones customers.....sorry, but thats what we have here.

however, to keep the peace of 2017, Ill refrain from further criticism of CT...

Happy New Year, and enjoy the pubsmile

I think the biggest issue with the new forum ,is that members feel that they haven't been listened to , I put one suggestion for a thread heading toward ,but I see that it hasent  been added ,ok ,I'm not going throw my teddy out the pram , its a forum ,ok it looks like they have gone the wrong way with it , getting out in my .M/H is far more important than a forum

as bugs says ,no forum is perfect and you would have thought that a big organisation like the CC could get it right , they should have looked at other forums ,.Motorhomefun in my option is one of the best ,with caravanchat up there ,as they are easy to follow ,post and add photos , but if we are stuck with this forum ,then so be it

life's to short to moan about trivial things

I think there would be a lot less moaning if there was more in the way of positive feedback from the Club. In the meantime because there is little positive one can say about the new discussion site and the difficulty of using it, I will continue to take a back seat.

I really don't get this thing about "no one should complain about the new forum". Why not?

We were promised a new forum that would address the issues that many CC members have raised over many years.

The new forum finally arrived, many months / years later than promised.

It turned out that it didn't address many / any of the issues raised and in many ways is worse than the previous one.

CC staff responded in a cursory way to comments, then closed down the thread and cleared off on an extended holiday.

No improvments / changes have been made.

And you don't think that deserves a comment??

A happy new Year to you BB

The question is this:

What is the club primary aim? Is is to have a very good network of sites that people want to use? (I know if people think may not think sites areis good but that's a separate question and anyway a lot of people want to use clubs sites) and a very good booking system?

Or is it to have a fantastic CT site?

CT won't drive people away from using clubs sites will it?

Happy new year Corners ( where have you been?)

you are right that the club should provide a good network of sites and that is where the majority of the money should be spent , but if we are going to have a forum then it should be of a reasonable quality ,and this one is not , but it doesn't stop me from using it or the site network

Happy New Year Husky! I've been out of the country on OHMS (well part of it)

OK, then what is missing from this forum that would take it into reasonable quality? I am not saying this new one is any great improvement on the last one (apart from the spellchecker and photo uploading) but it does what I need it to do, life goes on? Is it really that bad that it warrants so many complaints?
