Facilities below par

As other reviewers we arrived with our caravan on 15th March and were told that due to soft ground we should have booked hard standing. ( We had booked a standard pitch with awning). Not the best of welcomes. I was instructed to pitch on onlt white pegs (grass pitches). Having a mover I managed to pitch the van ok. Our friends arrived with a motor home and also had the same greeting and told to pitch on a white peg. After a couple of goes he managed to get the van off the road. The site was excellent for walking into town and a good selection of pubs and restaurants, and Sainsbury's up the road. There was plenty of good walks to Hatton locks etc. and NT properties nearby. On leaving I commented to the warden that shower 1 rose was spraying water everywhere. He stated that he would tell the Jockey club but nothing would be done and it would be the same if I returned in the summer! I didn't bother to mention that the water taps did not have the lights working at night. Overall disappointed with the facilities and the attitude of the warden, but the location was great. Would I return?......probably look for a CL in the area.

Don't book a grass pitch at this time of year!

I am the sister mentioned in Jonty Leese review and would echo all his comments. We had a great few days with good dog walking on site and Warwick City and Town all within easy walking distance - with lots of choice for eating out. We are very new to this with only purchasing a Motorhome in November and only our second visit to a Caravan and Motorhome site. I was made to feel a little bit daft on arrival when I was told I shouldn't have booked a grass pitch at this time of year but there wasn't a hardstanding pitch available. On the plus side he did accommodate us next to each other but asked us to only go as far on as necessary to come off the track. We parked up and had a great few days. As my brother has mentioned we were stuck when we came to leave but the 4 of us managed to get it nearly all the way off but in the end we needed the wardens help to put tracks under the front tyres. He actually told me not to book a grass pitch or not to bother coming - we did have a pleasant conversation before we left and he advised should never use a grass pitch before April. This needs to be made a lot clearer on the website - or perhaps grass pitches should be closed before April.

Lovely week in Warwick and surrounding area

My sister and partner joined is for 4 nights beginning Monday 13th March with us in our caravan and them in their motor home. We had a superb time and the site was just as expected as we had stayed there last year. I am only adding a slight criticism to do with pitch types as advertised on the website. We were OK because we had booked a "standard pitch without awning" meaning hard stand whereas my sister had booked a "standard pitch with awning" which, in the case of this site, means grass only. All was Ok until departure when we had difficulty getting my sister's motor home off the pitch. The warden assisted however, he was a little disgruntled that the pitch was damaged in the process and told my sister that next time she should make sure she booked a hard standing pitch at this time of year. OK but on checking your website we note that this is not clear on the available pitch types. Therefore, I respectfully request that this is made clear when booking, I.e. "Standard pitch with awning, N.B. Grass only available" and vice versa with the Standard pitch without awning". In all other respects we had a superb break.

Pitch Booked but occupied by others

Great site and location and with good facilities . However when we arrived at 7 pm after a long day we were directed by the warden to the first pitch which unfortunately was already occupied We went back to reception where the warden offered another pitch but this had car a parked on the space . I know the site was very busy but in my view this is poor site management by the wardens, who although tried to be very helpful , should not allow such circumstances to occur . Unfortunately the car owner who occupied the 2nd space had been drinking and was extremely rude to us .This could have been prevented if the warden had taken full ownership of the situation and personally directed us to the new pitch .As a result of the tension created with the car owner I insisted on being directed to another pitch for which the warden then decided to take us personally to. I really think the warden should have done this after we found the first pitch occupied but we had to find the pitch and subsequently try to resolve the issue with the parked vehicle. Our experience with other club sites wardens would not allow this situation to happen let alone allow a car to park in the wrong space ! However despite this unfortunate incident we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will visit again but I would recommend that future visitor ask the warden to show then to their pitches if they find a pitch occupied !.

Not up to standard

As always the staff were friendly and helpful and the location was in easy reach of the town and bus service to other nice places. However, this site did not meet the standard we have come to expect from other sites. It came as a surprise that everything seemed so tired at the beginning of a new season. Being wet underfoot most of the grass pitches were understandably unavailable. This meant that most vans had to be located on a large, roughly tarmaced area by the race track. It felt like being in a used car lot and certainly not somewhere you could sit out to eat or enjoy a glass of wine. At night lighting was poor. Toilet block and washing up facilities, although adequate were sub standard and in need of a re-vamp. In the ladies there was always a puddle outside one shower and the chipped hand drier did not work. We would love to come back to the area but will not visit this site again.

Short Stay

Only stayed for 1 night on the way to Bristol.Level pitch by the railings, always seemed to be people walking and talking on bit between site and track.Toilet block could have been warmer and still a smell of stale water we noticed a couple of years ago.possible drains ? Uphill walk into town M&S food and a few shops, not charity shop which makes a change from some town centres. Not sure about longer stay.

Warwick memories.

The nature of the site restricts it a little but it is well presented and the couple running the site are extremely helpful and very friendly. We arrived on their first day open having arrived just a few days earlier, we wouldn't have known. The site is extremely well situated for a myriad of places in Warwick itself, the Castle, St Mary's Church, 2 Regimental museums and more. Try and make a point of visiting the garden in Mill Lane overlooked by the looming castle and almost in the river. The bus passes within 150 metres of the site and the bus station is a proxy. 10 minutes walk with frequent buses to Stratford, Leamington Spa, Coventry and many other destinations. We are planning several more return visits.

Warwick in the frost

A return visit to Warwick, which looked attractive in heavy frosts although some outside facilities froze and also our own waste tap on the final morning. Must remember to leave the tap open next time, use a bucket and empty the tank into it. The washblock is continuing to look very tired and with water on the floor not somewhere I'd want to use very often. Warwick itself looked attractive dressed up for Christmas, we enjoyed seeing all the Christmas trees in the Collegiate church of St Mary's. The Advent carol services are worth attending as Warwick choir and music have a good reputation, I bought one of their carol cds this year. We met up with family on this trip so visited various coffee shops and eateries. It was nice to return to Wylies a quaint cafe, in an alley off Swan st, tasty cakes and food to enjoy with a nice old fashioned sweet and biscuit shop too.
