Bac Again

A great site in the grounds of Tredegar House, so many quiet walks around, especially when everyone has left the park. Worth a visit round the house, really interesting, also a NT restaurant for lunch but get there early if its the weekend. Well placed for visiting Cardiff but M4 is a nightmare and now they have stopped the M4 link which would have taken much of the traffic south of Newport & Tredegar House. Site can be noisy with traffic nearby. Spent 3 nights here last weekend when the Ladies Toilet block was having the floors remade, I really think they need more than just the floors!!! We were all having to use the 'Mens', not good on a full site, I believe we should have been given a discount. I do understand the work has to be done to maintain standards but doing the floor is only part of a refurbishment which is needed so why isn't this done during the quieter month, winter! The wardens certainly have their work cut out keeping the grounds looking so smart and always have time to have a friendly chat. Members complain about the noise of the equipment they use but they have to make noise to keep the site looking good, so keep it up.

Disappointed

Stay for one night in June site lovely and clean and well situated having some refit done so disabled toilet out of use. But the warden was not very helpful and quiet argumentative with me as though it was my fault. Also the wash room has a coded lock which my husband would have a problem as he has eye site issue wasn’t helpful or bothered. Shame as otherwise a lovely site

Weekend stay

Arrived on Friday 24th May. Lovely pitch, very quiet and great surroundings. Saturday same lovely weather etc. Sunday Nightmare, two families opposite with barking dogs, which they didn't attempt to quieten. Kids everywhere, I know it was half term from school and expected there to be more children, but they where a nightmare. Riding bikes scooters around the site with no regard for anyone else. Running around the back of the vans and over the electric cable. This was reported to one of the wardens. Monday morning going to the rubbish bins, nearly got knocked over by a boy on a bike coming from the gents toilets. We have never had this before on any other sites that we have visited. Site could do with a bit of tlc, but on the whole OK, and brilliant location.

Good location,

Set at the edge of Tredegar Park, makes for a lovely ambience. The park itself is a real feature especially for dog walking and there is a large Asda within 10 minutes walk. The site itself is nice and kept beautifully clean. However, the shower blocks are in need of some TLC and expansion. The site was full most of the time we were there and there are not really enough showers when it is full, especially as one was out of action for a while as were a couple of the wash basin cubicles. Time for a refurb. The other irritation was the Wi-fi which kept dropping out. Again with a full house, there is not enough capacity. It's a good base for visiting Newport and Cardiff, with regular buses and easy road access, but very confusing to find the appropriate bus stop and I couldn't find any bus timetables in the info area, so gave up on that one.

Noisy

Lovely large end of row pitch on grass, nice small site. We chose this site because we wanted to go to St Fagan's and it was only 15 mins away. There is a lovely walk round the lake. We stayed only one night which was just as well because we got no sleep. A very, very busy road is just over the site wall and it was busy all day and ALL night. There were traffic lights so motorbikes were revving up as they moved off. We were glad to move on.

Location superb

This was a base for our 7 day exploration of a corner of South Wales and it delivered that superbly. The proximity of major roads, the Valleys and places of interest made our stay successful. Staff are lovely and work very hard to keep the grounds looking great. Although it didn’t ruin our holiday it needs to be said that road, helicopter, siren noise is very obvious throughout the night and may affect some people more than others. We found a decent size Asda five minutes drive away in Duffryn which was useful for provisioning. However, we found it impossible to find somewhere to eat nearby which was of a decent standard, which is a shame. A public bus X5 stops nearby and will get you to Cardiff although we couldn’t find this info in the site’s “info shed”? Comments about the poor state of the showers still apply I’m afraid. Although they are clean the floor is deteriorating fast and needs replacing. While we were there a boiler needed attention and so some of the showers and basins were closed for use. Symptoms of a need for refurbishment perhaps?

Great Site.Ideal for visiting Cardiff

We love Tredegar House Caravan Site due to it's close proximity to Cardiff. The site is well maintained ang the facilities are clean. We were very disappointed that the flooring in the showers has not been replaced. The hazard tape stuck over the splits in the flooring is now lifting and dirty water is trapped underneath it, not very hygienic.

Great Site with CC High Standards

Spent a short break over Easter at this site. Pleasantly laid out site with only one facilities block but this is immaculately clean at all times. Pitches are regular CAMC standard, good spacing, mainly level hardstandings and clearly marked out. Short walk back toward the entrance to use park land that stretches for acre after acre and is excellent for walking the dog. Nearby Asda Store is about 20 minutes walk, buses X4 and X5 run to Newport and Cardiff from the the road immediately outside Tredegar House entrance. During daytime hours there is a coffee shop alongside the NT house, and a refreshments kiosk in the main park land itself. Not to forget that the reception area has a range of essentials for sale too. Wardens on site are discreet and pleasant in going about their duties, the waste areas are tended daily, the grass areas are very well maintained as are the pitches. We didn't notice any road noise, took a pitch beneath the trees that front the small lake. Loads of shade, plenty of Squirrel activity that bemused the dog and seasonal "catkin like" seeds that seemed to be attracted to the awning roof! If you want to unwind and relax, this is a perfect site. If you want to visit the local attractions......this is a perfect site being close to motorway and A roads.

Very enjoyable maiden trip in our van

We chose the site for proximity to family.. However we could not have asked for a better site. Friendly staff, great facilities, generous pitches and lovely setting. The site is in the national trusts country park. A real oasis between 2 cities. True you can hear the distant hum of the m4 but the proximity of major roads does mean it is easy to get places. Lots of castles and history nearby, even beaches.
