Great location

First of all this site is immaculate. From the toilet block to the grounds,it is spotless. Wardens and staff should be proud of themselves. We've just returned from a weekend away and had a thoroughly good time. Easy to find with a 20 min walk into town. Not a lot on site for the site kids but there is a playground which will keep them occupied for a few hours. Barnard castle itself is a lovely market town which retains an old fashioned character. Must sees are the castle and the Bowes museum. Plenty of traditional pubs if you fancy a pint at night. As for the road noise-yes it's next to a main road but it didn't detract from our visit in any way,it goes quiet at night

Gem of a site

Our first time at this site and the area, beautiful countryside, excellent well kept well laid out site and the  wardens very friendly and helpful. The dog walk is great. Yes there is some road noise, quieter at night, but not a problem, we live in a very quiet cul de sac but it didn't bother us. Love being able to walk into Barney, a lovely little town with everything you need. Had a trip to Bemish museum which was a good day out and under an hour away. Will certainly be back

Lovely Site

We stayed here for the half term week. Lovely site with really nice friendly wardens. Very well kept & facilities were spotless. Great walk area for the dog. Although there was some road noise during the day there wasn't much at night so made the site peaceful & quiet. Easy walk into the town with plenty of shops pubs & eateries. There is a chippy van that comes on site on a Wednesday & Friday evenings & the food is great, well worth a try. Will definately return & would highly recommend it.

Lovely Site But ..........

This is the second time we have visited here. It's nice to see all the trees and foliage maturing. The last time we came the site had only been open a couple of years. Wardens nice and friendly . Lovely clean amenities short walk into the village with its lovely shops and of course the castle. When you walk down the hill on the left hand side on the bend turn left into the opening cross over the river bridge and there's a lovely though steep walk up to the castle and the town. We only stayed one night each time, and is a very handy stop over. BUT there is a lot of traffic noise. It's not so much a busy road but the traffic is very fast and lorries come along it. It did quiet down during the night and didn't disturb us until about 6.30 am when it started up again. We will still probably stay again as a stop over but don't think we could manage a week .

Lovely facilities

This site was lovely. We stayed for a week over may half term and had a nice time. The wardens were great and the place spotless. Nice large pitches. Sadly not many children even though it was half term...Guess stuff for families limited, the play area suitable for small kids only. My teens were bored at times and although it was a nice week we will not be returning very soon as we saw all there was to see in this visit. The waterfall at high force lovely and a real must.

It's a lovely site!

This is our second trip to Barnard Castle in three years, the first was just after it opened, and I must say the site has improved in that time. Sure you'll get some traffic noise from the road, but during the night there's not a lot of it about, and since our last stay the foliage has grown in a bit more therefore blocking a fair amount of sound. The town of Barnard Castle and the Bowes museum are within easy reach on foot and by car, with places like High Force a short drive away. Facilities on site are excellent. Some of the best I've seen, and the welcome was warm and friendly. I promise that we'll not leave it as long until our next visit.

An enjoyable week

A lovely, well kept site, spacious pitches, immaculate shower block and good sized meadow with mown paths for dog walking. Although the site is situated on a main road, traffic noise was not a problem for us. The site was within easy walking distance of Barnard Castle and a short drive from many other local attractions eg Raby Castle and High Force Waterfall. We enjoyed our weeks stay.

Super,Super,Super.

Have been to Barnard Castle site on 14 occasions now and this last weekend was just as good as any. I have to say I have seen the site grow in the last six years and the shrubs and trees now make BC a well established site. Spotlessly clean toilets and showers, super fish and chips on Wednesday and Friday nights...but most important two brilliant wardens who can not do enough for you. Friendly welcome , big smiles. nothing too much trouble!!! Will be returning soon.

Great weekend

Just got back from a great weekend at Barnard Castle. The site was excellent and the wardens were very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the walk through the woods to Barney on Saturday. Kids loved the playpark. This site did seem a little expensive per night but I guess that's just supply and demand; the site was full each night I think. Thanks for a great weekend, I'm sure we'll be back.

Brilliant Site

This site is one of the very best sites we have been on. Great things to see in the area and very close to the town. It was 10 out of 10 for clean in the grounds and shower and toilet block. Staff also very nice. Would tell any one his good it is.
