A really nice site ideally placed to explore the local area. Really well kept by the very friendly wardens. The only downside was we were located next to the main road in and out of Barnard Castle which was a bit noisy .
We visited with friends and there are really good walks from the site.
We will definitely be back
I booked onto this site for several nights and had a great stay. It is so clean and well kept. The facilities, although quite old, are spotless. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
The site is in a great location for visiting the nearby Barnard castle and the town. It is within walking distance.
I also ventures out on my bicycle to explore.
There is the sound of traffic in the distance but that does not distract from just how good the site is.
On our list to visit some sights in the surrounding area we didn't get chance to see last year. Great wardens, very friendly on check in and odd occasion seen around the site. Nice and quiet at the beginning of October. Site tidy and facilities up to usual club standards. For the ones who need Wi-Fi to get through life, refer to the heat map on site page and it is very accurate. We stayed at the bottom of the steps leading to facility block (pitch 71), which was charted as a dead zone, so no surprise. We like the placement overlooking the tree line with close enough access to water point and shower block in preference to Wi-Fi. It's a great site and we had minimal levelling to do, as it looked most others did.
Easy walk into town but in the rain soaked environment we were in be careful walking through the woods as slippy and uneven, its great in summer as last time we went.
The town is nice to spend time walking round when not on house and garden visits. If visiting High Force waterfall, also visit the Low Force falls as we enjoyed these more. It's free but they ask for £2 donation in car park (worth more).
A must visit in town on Horse Market, is Chocolate Fayre with attached coffee shop. A pot of tea for two with two delicious slices of cake followed by a self pick box of hand made chocolates really brightens up an inclement day.
Lovely site ideally placed to explore the local area, only downside was pitched next to the main road in and out of Barnard Castle which can be busy and noisy .
As always a great trip to Barnard Castle. Fabulous site, great location AND sun was shining !!! Lots of great places to visit this time being Raby Castle and gardens which was fantastic although read brochure first as Castle is closed on Mondays but gardens gorgeous and head gardener Geoffrey very informative on guided walk. Barnard Castle itself a lovely town with very nice independent shops. Discovered a jewel too not too far away in Seaham. Lovely unspoilt wee seaside town with great fish and chips topped off with a paddle ! Fantastic few days away.
.
lovely site, modern"ish" facilities. Well managed site, really clean and well groomed. Friendly team ready to chat.
Really close to the town which is a treat. Great pubs, shops and a market.
HIGHLY recommend - Access is good too, nothing too stressful
Came here for first outing in our motor home.
the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Came back a second time with our grand children. We got a pitch near the play area , which they were in at every opportunity.
Good walking distance for kids to get into Barnard Castle, with a play area on the way in.
We visited Hury reservoir to fish, the road is a bit narrow for oncoming traffic in a motor home.
Called into Raby castle on the way home ( parked in catch parking area)
Is in good location for visiting the area.
Thank you so much for the wonderful stay. The site is beautifully situated, well maintained and the cosy village of Barnard Castle is within walking distance. Special thanks also to the charming wardens.
Our first visit to Barnard Castle site and loved it, listening to the birds and wildlife. Easy walk into town, we went along the road but soon walking next to the river. Great town with good shops and facilities and good fish and chip shop - 149.
We went to High Force & Low Force and parked the camper at Bowlees visitor centre and walked between the 2 waterfalls. Handy drying room on site too.
