May break - Convenient stopover

Our second stay at this lovely site. Again happy with the choice and size of pitches on this well laid out site. Still well maintained and clean. Chose a lower level pitch which was much quieter than our last stay on upper level. Only downside was the fact the facilities are now only accessible by key...I'm sure there's a good reason for this but it's very inconvenient!

Truly Lovely

Loved the site and location - Barnard Castle is a super little town and plenty of countryside too. Fish and chip van on Friday serves very good food and wardens friendly and helpful. Facilities immaculate. Site immaculate. Yes it is next to a road but the bit of traffic did not bother us at all. We were right at the end of the site and during high winds we didn't get a constant mobile or wifi signal but again this wasn't enough of an issue to put me off returning! As soon as I can nab a pitch we will be back again.....and again....

Lovely site in excellent location

We spend a week at this site, Monday to Friday. It was our first visit. The site itself is fully up to my expected club standards, very neat and tidy and the shower block is excellent. Very clean and great facilities especially the spacious showers. Never used the laundry or pot washing but both looked well equipped. Only met the warden on arrival but was very helpful. My only comment about the site was there is a bit a road noise but nothing to put you off and you do get a bit of noise from the young offenders institution depending on the direction of the wind. But again nothing to be concerned about. We did walk into Barnard Castle from the site, the path is a bit hairy at times as it is very narrow at the start and traffic is wizzing past. So if you have a dog or children just take extra care. Apart from that its a nice walk, a bit hilly in places but nothing we couldn't manage. The town itself is very nice with lots of small shops and cafes, pubs etc. Unfortunately the weather wasn't very kind to us, but we did enjoy a day out a Beamish and a trip over to the Wensleydale Cheese Shop in Hawes. On Wednesday, we made use of the visiting Fish and Chip van and have to say they were lovely. So all in all a lovely site in an excellent location for touring round with the option to walk into town should you choose to do so. If we wanted to visit that area again I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

Lovely stay

Beautifully kept site everything spotlessly clean and tidy. Very well maintained toilet block. Large well kept pitches. The wardens are a credit to the caravan club, thank you for a lovely stay

Well organised site

We love this site as its so close to Barnard Castle with some great walks from the site. Our latest trip we walked 30 miles over the 3 days. We stay at least twice a year. The shower block is spotless and modern. The staff are effiecient and from our experience of club sites is one of the most relaxed and friendly sites. The only mild irritation is the waste disposal area for motorhomes which means with the one way system that you have to go out of the gate then scan back in through the entry gate to get to the disposal area. We always enjoy our time at this site.

First time visitor

We don't live far from the site, so we decided on a short weekend break. It was excellent, site is immaculately kept, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. It is an easy walk into Barnard Castle, we learnt a lot more about the place having stayed there instead of normally passing through. Will definitely visit again and walk along to Cotherstone.

Love this site

We stayed here for the second time this year last week and had a great time despite some poor weather. The site is spotless, well done to the wardens who were also very welcoming and friendly throughout both to us and the visitors we had on 2 of the days we were there. The site is only a 15 minute walk to Barnard Castle where the shops, castle, and Bowes museum are all worth a visit. It's also well located for days out in Teesside or Teasdale or the numerous places along the A66. And last but by no means least what better way to end a Friday out than by enjoying a meal from the on-site fish and chip van.

Great location

First of all this site is immaculate. From the toilet block to the grounds,it is spotless. Wardens and staff should be proud of themselves. We've just returned from a weekend away and had a thoroughly good time. Easy to find with a 20 min walk into town. Not a lot on site for the site kids but there is a playground which will keep them occupied for a few hours. Barnard castle itself is a lovely market town which retains an old fashioned character. Must sees are the castle and the Bowes museum. Plenty of traditional pubs if you fancy a pint at night. As for the road noise-yes it's next to a main road but it didn't detract from our visit in any way,it goes quiet at night

Gem of a site

Our first time at this site and the area, beautiful countryside, excellent well kept well laid out site and the  wardens very friendly and helpful. The dog walk is great. Yes there is some road noise, quieter at night, but not a problem, we live in a very quiet cul de sac but it didn't bother us. Love being able to walk into Barney, a lovely little town with everything you need. Had a trip to Bemish museum which was a good day out and under an hour away. Will certainly be back
