Good site, but...

This site could be so much better if in another location! Handy for Sutton on Sea (only 15 mins walk) it has a good open aspect whilst shaded by trees, a good play area for the kids, but if you have a dog, you'll be toiling for walkies. Only decent walk is down the outside of site, but tbe neighbour is not too friendly and has CCTV watching you. Not nice. Other than that, the site is ok with good toilets as you'd expect and the wardens are great. However, afraid we won't be back. Sorry.

Nice site - great wardens

First trip to Lincolnshire and the site was an ideal base for our touring around the county. Well laid out and generally peaceful except for a bit of traffic noise from the A52 (just in the distance) and the usual infuriating barking dog and its hopeless owners ("no you musn't make that noise" - "no that's naughty" etc. etc.). Being under trees was a bit of an issue in the fog with the moisture settling on the leaves and being dislodged by the birds but that was our fault! The wardens were great - very helpful and welcoming. So all in all a thumbs up for this site. Unfortunately we won't be visiting again because Lincolnshire was mostly uninspiring inland and grotty on the coast (except for Cleethorpes). Sutton-on-Sea was particularly grim. Lincoln was brilliant!

Time for an update

Site is perfect location for peace and quiet and a short stroll to the sea. Admittedly we were outside the school holidays but that made for a relaxing get away from it all few days.and the weather was on top form for September. Now the disappointing bit. The site is well kept and the staff friendly. However the toilet block lets the site down. It is old and tired looking and in desperate need of a make over. Come on caravan club spend some of our fees and bring it up to scratch.

September weekend

We arrived on friday evening after picking my 10yr old son up from school in sunny Doncaster, My wife was working for the weekend so I decided to try our new, to us, Bailey Senator Arizona for the first time. We arrived at 1800hrs and after a warm welcome reversed onto the hard standing pitch perfectly first time, that was my, anxious point one out of the way. Electric connected, legs down, water and waste connected for the first time, its dark now and for the first time in 10yrs i'm caravanning. My 10 year old son is too excited and trying to find a free view signal, as I work out how to connect the gas and turn on the fridge, and prime the heating and hot water. TV on and coronation street playing in the background im getting frustrated as I get hot water from the kitchen but not the bathroom, eventually eureka, the Bailey handbook in hand and mobile as a torch, im burning my hand in the hottest water you ever felt. OK time for a cup of tea and settle down to our first night in a caravan for 10 years. Dawn breaks and the wind is howling and its wet, very wet, but you know what, the site is till calm and beautiful, in a great location and we are toasty and warm as the bacon sizzles and the toast slowly turns brown. Caravanning, and the Sutton on Sea caravan club site, I love it.

Very disappointing

Thanks for asking me to review the site. If you'd checked your records you'd see that we actually didn't stay there.  Having booked the day before, given our time of arrival, and explained that we had a trailer tent the only space available when we arrived was under trees. It was dark north facing and had a view of the toilets.  With relatively strong winds forecast this was obviously not an acceptable pitch leaving us with no alternative but to go and find accommodation elsewhere.  We booked for two nights  but could only claim our money back for one which was also disappointing.  I do feel that as the managers knew we were coming they could have reserved an open pitch for us not under trees so we would have been able to stay.  When I joined the club recently I was told that trailer tents were welcome on your sites but didn't feel on this occasion this was proved to be true.  We headed to a warm welcome at the local Caravanning and Camping Club site to an open pitch with a great view over surrounding countryside where we stayed for three nights and will always look at their sites first in the future.  Feel free to contact me if you want mover information.

Message from The Club:

Thank you for your review. We regret to hear that you did not feel the pitch selection was up to standard.

When you arrived our site was full to capacity with just one pitch available. Caravan Club pitch selection operates on a first come first served basis and you were our last arrival that day. We did offer a change of pitch after departures the next day and did give you help and advice on pitching your trailer tent. Trailer tents are welcomed on site and have in fact happily used the pitch in question, enjoying sunny mornings and shaded afternoons. We would welcome you to contact us directly if you wish to discuss your experience further.

Friendly site

Love this site, this must be our 6th yearly visit, very clean and tidy, toilet block now looking very dated but clean. Some pitches have shade if needed. Ideal for families have a very nice play area and dog walk near by.

Late break

Just spent 5 day here, found the site neat and tidy, clean and well run. Close enough to the sea, a pleasant stroll. Close to major seaside towns, North and South of site. Will revisit.

Another good site.

Fairly typical Caravan Club site, everything in it’s place, well separated pitches, excellent facilities, even a play area which is unusual. Wardens very friendly and helpful, keeping a very clean and tidy site. Site is twenty minutes walk from the beach, but further for any beach facilities. Buses, hourly, I think, to Mablethorpe and Skegness from the bus stop ten minutes walk away. Navigation tip, if on the Althorpe road, A1111, ignore the Hawthorn Farm brown sign on this road, go into Sutton and turn right onto the A52 for a short distance to the brown sign as Crabtree lane is long and narrow with ditches either side.

Enjoyed this site.

Nice site but toilets and shower very tired but clean. disabled shower room had 2 holes in the wall and an area of tiles covered over with plain white. But the smell from the drain was very bad. The wardens worked very hard cleaning but drains need a professional.

Very enjoyable

Just finished an 8 day stay here, very well kept site with good & variable pitches to suit all caravaners. Was a little concerned at previous reviews re-state of shower block but to be honest they were fine, yes possibly a little dated but were nevertheless, spotless all the while. The whole site was kept clean, mowed every day & no complaints whatsoever. Charming wardens as well. Lovely 15 minute walk to the beach. Only downside to this area is the lack of 'decent' eating places, there are no such things as 'nice rural pubs' just numerous fish & chip shops & 'family get 'em in get 'em out type pubs'. Still a great area with outstanding beaches. Will be back to both the site & also the area.
