Wonderful Location

This was our first foray into the world of Motorhome travel and what a wonderful place to choose.  The location is fantastic, a very short walk to the sea and lunch of fresh crab at the Start Bay Inn, and a very short walk the other way to a pub next to the church. The wardens are really helpful and gave us a lot of good pointers, the facilities are great, wonderful showers etc.  The access is not bad and what do people expect from places near the coast - a dual carriageway all the way there?  We would have no hesitation in recommending this site.

Great Setting!!

Great site, fabulous location, the wardens were very friendly and helpful and the site was spotless. The beach is well worth the short walk and The Start Bay Inn is definitely worth a visit, will be visiting the area again.

Great location.....nightmare access!!

This site is located in one of the most attractive areas you could wish to visit with more than enough places to keep you amused for weeks. This is just as well since it will probably take weeks for your frayed nerves to settle sufficiently to attempt the drive back again! the final 6mls of the journey are a mixture of narrow walled roads, bends, blind crests and obstructive road furniture. I am a very experienced caravanner towing a relatively small (6.5m shipping length) van. I am also an ex recovery truck driver and this journey scared the living daylights out of me!! However, once (and if!) you arrive , the site is lovely, wardens could not be more helpful, pasties are to die for and the facilities are immaculate. Some of the pitches are narrow but still sufficient for purpose. We love our stay but, unless the road improves we shall not be going again.

Great Site

The site is kept very well and the Wardens do a sterling job with everything well maintained. We have been going to this site for the last 10 years but sadly, this year will probably be our last. Preference and reservation of pitches is given to Motorhomes the reason given that if they bog down, the site tractor is not powerful enough to pull them off. As a caravanner and member I take exception to being treated second rate as we all pay the same membership and fees. If pitches are to be reserved, allow us with caravans to also reserve pitches even if there is a small charge introduced,e.g. £1 per night. There is already a review here where a Motorhome owner is warning that the roads leading to the site are not suitable for Motor homes and this is due to the sheer size that Motorhomes are becoming.

Fabulous holiday

We have just had a great 10 days at this lovely site, friendly wardens and a very clean site. Had great weather and did some lovely coastal walks. Will definitely return.

Challenging access road well worth the effort!

Driving through the villages from Kingsbridge to the site is a challenging experience but that's something I personally enjoyed!  The site itself ticked all the boxes for us - very helpful and friendly wardens, spotless facilities and excellent location.  One minor moan, when full the site feels a tad overcrowded with no outlook from most pitches.  The site location is fantastic and we would highly recommend the No 3 double-decker bus ride to Dartmouth - not for the faint hearted!! Those bus drivers must be the most highly skilled within the Stagecoach company!!  Loads of good pubs, walks and interesting places, all within a short distance of the site - we will definitely return!

Unspoilt Seaside Location

We have come to this site every year since owning a motor home for at least a few days from Plymouth, even with the slow winding roads.  We love the unspoilt coastal area, with the unique geographical feature of Slapton Ley, running closely parallel to the sea.  The history of the area in WW2 is very interesting. For people interested in reading the area is featured in Michael Morpugo's book 'The Amazing story of Adolphus Tips'. On a more current note; a 10-15 minute walk off road around the edge of a field takes you to the small village of Stokenham. Can thoroughly recommend The Tradesman's Arms pub by the village green.

Road narrows.

Visited this site in September, noting that the road narrows in the last few miles. Without warning we were met with traffic lights and a lane closure at the narrowest part. With HGV's approaching even without the roadworks, this is not for the faint hearted, and I am an experienced driver. However, this site is a gem in a wonderful spot, with excellent staff. The Church House Inn is a short walk away from the site and serves excellent meals. At the Start Bay Inn the fish is to die for. My only complaint is the inconsiderate dog owners, letting their dogs bark from first light. Otherwise full marks.

Good Bad and the Ugly

Having read some of the previous reviews I have to say I wasn't looking forward to the final part of the Journey to the site. As it happens we arrived without incident, although I could see that if you met the wrong vehicle in the wrong place it could cause a problem. On arrival the receptionist was pleasant enough. We had a pitch which was rather narrow without enough room to park a car and caravan side by side without getting on the grass, but other pitches were wider. Site is in a good location for walking the coastal path and plenty of things to do in the area. We left at 8am on the Sunday morning to avoid problems with traffic. This appeared to work and others were doing the same thing. The Ugly bit, apart from me on the site, was the number of dogs which some owners leave to foul the grass around their pitch, not bothering to take them to the dog walk. I feel sorry for the kids who play on the grass after them.

He that is tired of sand bay is tired of life

Great site. Great wardens. Downgraded on point 5 simply because that is not my type of holiday so wasn't looking for those aspects. Enjoyed Torcross, Slapton Sands, Darmouth, Salcombe and Kingsbridge. My only gripe would be the narrowness of the road in from Kingsbridge. My 5 nights were certainly not long enough.
