We stayed for five nights in March. Location is ideal with Park-and-Ride handy and easy access to local parks. Reception very welcoming. Toilet block immaculate and possibly one of the best, but closed for an hour and three quarters for cleaning ?! Sadly the wifi was unavailable in part of the site, but we were not advised of this before we pitched up. A notice in the office would have been sensible. Also our Night Vouchers were not accepted because we didn't possess the letter of authority from the Club. I now understand the letter is not now necessary. This resulted in an earlier than planned spend of £100+ .
Spotless facilities, amongst the best we have ever seen. Only downsides for us were ,road noise which was fairly intrusive. The directions from the North in the handbook were very poor imho. Brilliant out of season. Would not want to be here in high season. Enjoyable stay and great bird watching just along the coast.
An excellent site. Very clean with friendly staff.
Thought the out of season rate was quite high considering there is a carpark with services half a mile away for £8 a night. If I had known before I booked I probably would have only spent one night there.
The other minor complaint is the road layout which meant we spent nearly an hour waiting for people to hitch their caravans before we could get out on Sunday morning and that is out of season.
We had a four night stay on this excellent site, which is in an excellent location close to Southport and was well looked after by the wardens Kath and Roy who also made us feel very welcome. We will be back, even storm Doris didn't put us off. Also had a really good meal out at Bistro 21 but book well in advance especially for weekends, Jules (Huddersfield).
Revisiting Southport where we used to live. Site was excellent in virtually every aspect. Only VERY minor issue was that if you are walking out late at night the route through to Rotten Row is unlit (NOT the site's fault) and was very dark.
Even the far side of Southport is only a 30 minute walk away - so this is a great location if you want to leave the car behind.
Shower/Toilet Facilities are the best kept I have seen, and showers very roomy.
We will be back
We had a couple of nights here last weekend. Mainly as we wanted to visit Liverpool but also so that we could catch a glimpse of the sea! The site staff were very welcoming and the pitch that we chose was flat with no need for levelling blocks. The sanitary blocks were lovely and clean as was the washing up room.
The site itself is quiet but there is quite a bit of road noise from outside the site. Not so much of a problem when you plan to be out and about.
A 20 minute walk through the park and town bring you to the train station which has trains every 15 minutes or so into Liverpool. The park gets very muddy when it is wet so boots are recommended! We spent a great day in Liverpool, lunch out and a walk around the shops, harbour and museums. Back in Southport, the park was locked at 5.30pm and so we walked back via the road. It was dark and not lit and so if you plan to do this, a torch would be a good idea.
Lots of birds on the seashore and rabbits on the site made it a nature friendly weekend too.
Stayed for a few nights Feb 2017. The Toilet and shower block is the best I have stayed at on the network. Modern, Warm and always extremely clean despite the site being full. The Showers have a larger dressing area and seat than normal with plenty of pegs for clothes.
Would definitely recommend this site for all. Close to park and seafront attractions for families and also possible to walk to Southport town centre which has a lovely range of coffee shops and restaurants.
We travelled from Morecambe to Southport for 3 nights Feb half term 2017, two adults and 2 children aged 10 and 16. After we had negotiated the floating road and be aware you really do rock and roll we arrived at Southport. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome by the wardens. Pitches are spacious and well set out. The site is adjacent to a park which is great for ball games and bikes and for those that like a remote controlled car track. Southport is a pleasant 15 minute walk, the shopping centre is great a library that has an art gallery and loads to do for all age groups. When we returned from our walk we were stopped in our tracks by the rooks coming to roost for the night a sight to behold. Whilst were there we also went to Formby beach famous for red squirrels the kids loved the free exercise equipment.
As we were very busy we did not spend a lot of time on site but the facilities were immaculate whatever time you went in, the site is quiet, clean and tidy and the wardens are lovely. We aim to return.
We stayed here for two nights mid week in February. What a great site! I could not believe how many other people were here too, no wonder we hadn't managed to book on the previous weekend. Despite the number of occupied pitches the site was peacful & quiet & the wardens were very friendly helpful & full of fun. They have kept the place immaculate, The facilities here are first rate, spotlessly clean & modern & warm. The site is well laid out as you'd expect & in summer there is another part of the site which they can open to increase capacity. The town centre is a 15 minute walk away & was great to visit. The nearest pub (The Fishermans Rest) is about 10 minutes walk in the opposite direction & serves good tasty reasonably priced food too!
TV reception (terrestial) was excellent through our omni aerial & a weak but fairly stable 4G phone signal was adequate. There is a public footpath that crosses the site so the toilets are only accesible by key & there are cameras monitoring the site for extra security.
A great site & we'll be back again soon!
