We booked last minute and were lucky enough to find availability. The whole team were incredibly welcoming. We felt at ease and were able to take our time to find a perfect pitch. We have a big motorhome and the access and pitch size was very good.
The bonus for us is the location. We usually tow a car behind but only took bikes this time and Southport is very flat, so ideal for less serious cycling. Southport has so much to offer for couples or families all within easy access walking. The sand dunes literally opposite the site lead to the beach and are fabulous for dog walking.
We walked to Ainstable and then caught the train to Formby, Crosby and then back to Southport. Very reasonable day ticket for £3.80.
The site is spotless and we got a great welcome and help / advice when needed from the staff.
We usually travel in Europe and Croatia in our Van but we liked this site so much that we have booked a return in a few weeks.
Great weekend.
Very goid site up to and beyond usual caravan and motorhome club site. Staff very friendly and helpful. The site is very convenient to Southport town center jusy a 10 minute walk away. Lots of places to eat and drink especialy if you like Italian food. Lots of routes for walking along the beach or along the coast in the extensive sand dunes. We would stay again and we recommend this site.
Revisited after 27 years
Well as you would expect after 27 years this site has changed a lot. The original site location is still in use and that's where we pitched up, as we did not particularly like the new site areas, the latest upgrade we feel lacks character it's just a flat open area to site your caravan, no trees or shrubbery to break it up, this is why we gave it a low overall score. Maybe in time this will change as it matures? The site is not one of the clubs cheaper sites but the location is excellent for getting into Southport (15 minutes walk) and Morrisons supermarket is also nearby, families will enjoy this site. We smile to ourselves as we looked on this as a nostalgic trip back to The Esplanade but the prices are not nostalgic it was £5 per night including electric when we were here last. Enjoy this site any time of the year.
Excellent location
We visited Southport C & M C Site in March 2017 in order to celebrate the 10th Birthday of our granddaughter. She and her family stayed at the Travel Lodge, whilst we stayed in our touring caravan. The location is ideal as we were able to walk through Victoria Park to meet up with our family and enjoy the facilities that Southport has to offer. We took our Granddaughters to the Dunes Slash World, again an easy walk both from the C & M C site and the Travel Lodge. We met up for meals at local hostelries and generally enjoyed ourselves. As mentioned by most members, the site is a credit to the club, everything spotlessly clean and the Wardens friendly and helpful. We were lucky to have superb weather during our stay, managing to sunbathe and barbeque in March.
Will we be back? Yes definitely, thank you, Southport C & M C site!
First stay but not our last
We have returned from our first visit to the Southport site and we will definitely be going back.
Site and amenities were to the usual high standard very clean and tidy and the staff very friendly during our stay.
Walk into town about 10 - 15 minutes which was made a lot easier with the beautiful weather we had.
Plenty to see around Southport and whilst we never went onto the front you are only a stones throw from the beach and several tourist attractions.
Staff very accommodating on arranging a later departure which rounded the weekend off very nicely.
One thing we noted was the way we approached the site which was from the north along Marine Drive.
This does resemble the big dipper in a lot of stretches and we found ourselves driving at 30 mph or less to avoid any issues but we were fine...... not so sure about the traffic behind though :)
Would certainly recommend a visit.
We even got sun
A great site only a short hop from our Oldham home, staff all very helpful.
The town and pubs are only a 5-10 minute walk from site and some good restaurants, all this and we had 4 days sunshine.
One thing missing
other reviewers sang the praises of this site, it is good. Great for nipping off with the dog. Sand dunes and beach one side and a park on the other.
During my time there it rained icy rain and the park was so muddy. Please supply an area with a tap and floor drain to wash off the dogs legs and belly before letting them back in the van.
The Pier is three quarters of a mile long and I still could not see the sea!!
Good site, will visit again
Great site within an easy walk into town and sea front.very dog friendly with some pubs that take dogs within the town and lake area.
Will visit again soon
A jewel that might be missed.
We took a 3 night break and having never been there before you never know what to expect do you? The site is easy to find, we were met by the most wonderful wardens who are just so nice. The site is extremely well looked after and the facilities are faultless so a credit to those who work there. A large supermarket and a food mall close by with the short walk into town being not too exhausting or a park and ride bus close by for those less able.
To be honest I was not expecting that the town would be so nice, lovely buildings and lots to see so all in all a great place to visit made better by a real gem of a site.
motorhomes
we have just spent 2 weeks at this site great as usual .We were on pitch 23 near the service point it used to be a motor home service point but is now defunct as a new one has been built last year the amount of motor homes coming both ways on the one way system was unreal the map shows the new motor point perhaps the wardens should explain it to people when they arrive at site.
