Had a weekend

Just came back after a weekend. We had a reason to be near Salisbury & booked this site. You can tell from othe reviews that there is nothing on site for younger children & as the site is also very steep (not at the very top as per the advertised pictures). There were not many pitches to choose from so were not suitable as in not level or long enough & as I also have a twin axel. It was ok but i dont think ill be back. Also the site wireless was so bad we gave up. The site next door though had better pitches & not overlooked be trees.

wonderful site

My wife and I stopped off here for three nights on our way home from Devon. Great welcome, offers of help should we need, but we found the perfect pitch ourselves. This site has it all.....peaceful, mature setting, in the trees or in the open, facilities are well kept and have little extras like additional hooks, washing up drying racks and fly screens on the windows! I liked the little lawned area near reception with a bench for you to sit and enjoy amazing views. It goes without saying that Salisbury is lovely......Cathedral and the Saturday market, along with Old Sarum and of course Stonehenge. Food ? ...what better than the flagship Waitrose store in Salisbury. We are only sorry that wecould not have stayed on until today to enjoy the celebrations of the sites 50th Anniversary. However, we will be making plans to return. Not sure when, but we will be back to enjoy this lovely Club Site.

Music as well!!

We have e just had a 3 day break at this very quite site where we had a nice secluded pitch. The toilet block was spotless as was the dish wash area and laundry. On the second evening Paula and Dave had organised a BBQ and live music to celebrate the sites 50th anniversary. What a great idea. We have a lovely evening and made some new friends

Quiet site in a wooded area

We booked in for a quick weekend away to visit Stonehenge (20 mins away) as we are always passing it on the A303 and our daughter wanted to stop and see it. We arrived on Friday night to a fully booked site and the warden directed us to the last pitch available. The site is in a woodland and many of the pitches are fully shaded, I was initially a little diassapointed as there is no open green space anywhere where you could go and sit in the sun, having said this it was a very sunny weekend and in hind site at the end of the weekend I was very greatful for the shade, if not the amount of bird poo on the top of the camper! Overall a good weekend. Pros Pitches are in groups of 2/6 so you don't feel on top of other campers Very quiet, lots of birdsong If you pitch at the bottom of the site, there are fantastic views over the countryside Very clean toilet block 4 bars of 4G on Vodafone Wardens have a free herb garden Cons Steep site (although most pitches seemed to be terraced/levelled). If you are pitched at the bottom of the site it is a reasonable uphill walk to the toilet block. Fine if your active like us, but could be a problem if your less mobile. I usually allow our 9 year old to go to the block by herself, but felt we were just a little too far at the bottom of the site to allow this. No space anywhere to relax other than your pitch, so not as child friendly as other sites. Due to the wooded nature of the site, lots of bird poo on the camper and the table as we were sitting there one evening! We would come back for another short break if we has a specific event we wanted to do in the area.

Great site

Just spent 5 nights at this site, I have to say I can't understand why some reviewers mark it down? The pitches are well laid out and you can choose to stay on the main open grass area near the wardens hut or the many grass or hard standing ones in among the wooded areas. Only down side of the latter is it's quite hilly when it comes to filling your water canisters and getting rid of your grey water. The wardens were very pleasant to deal with and keep the site and facilities immaculate. There is a great dog walk down the side of the site that leads in to a large wild meadow, three fields down. It is quite remote but does have a local bus service with a stop near the gate. there are two local pubs The George inn & The Silver Plough. (not within walking distance) The Silver Plough being the better of the two. Both are also dog friendly if you wish to eat there. There is also a very large, well stocked Budgen's at the petrol station near the Army base, this is about a mile and half from the site and appeared to have everything you could ever need. There is also a large Caravan dealers/repairers close by if you encounter any issues with your outfit during your stay. Not a great site for younger children unfortunately due to lack of green space. Also when deciding on a pitch, if you wish to get a decent TV signal be mindful of the very tall trees in the wooded areas. We stayed on Pitch 27 and the signal was a bit hit and miss but we didn't go there to watch the TV anyway :-) Would we go again? without question, if only for the peace and quite and to watch the hovering Red Kites.

Different to the usual Club standard by far!

Strange location. Terrible drain smell at the top of the site, very unacceptable. Not good for kids on bikes as roads too narrow and trees not cut back so cant see clearly. This shouldn't be a normal club site as far from normal club standards. Wardens...well..set in their ways to say the least. Site is desperate for revamp and site needs update. We wont be going back.

Visit 11/4/17

This site is very peaceful and quiet and great if you really want a relaxing break. Pitches are either open at the top of the site or located in amongst trees at the bottom end which gives you shelter from the wind and privacy. We were however disappointed that when we checked in on the Tuesday no information was given by staff that there had been issues with the electric on site and that a generator had been brought in to power the electrics. On the first evening this went off for approximately one and a half hours and then again whilst a permanent repair was made for a further two hours the following evening. Regarding the shower block there was no hot water in the men's block for almost all six nights we were there. I understand this has now been repaired but do feel that we should have had information on the problems as we checked in. I will use the site again as it is a lovely peaceful setting but feel slightly let down by the lack of information given by the site staff.

Lovely Peacefull Location with Excellent Dog Walk. - Great Wardens

We stayed for three nights over the Easter Weekend. - I would imagine that this is ‘usually’ an extremely peaceful and quiet site which is why I have given it 5/5 for this. – However, we had ‘the dog from hell’ pitched next to us that yapped almost constantly for the entire weekend. – We have a dog, god bless him, that is as quiet as a mouse and despite ‘the dog from hell’ inevitably setting off a lot of the other dogs on the site that may otherwise have remained quiet, ours never murmured. We mentioned this in passing to The Warden as we left, who assured us that she would have dealt with it had we mentioned it. – However, we preferred not to upset ‘our neighbours.’ – A tip from a retired Dog Handler, – all dogs know their name. You have to give them a command with it! I have rated the facilities 4/5 as there is only one shower block which some pitched at the furthest distance away may see as a problem. Seeing the glass as ‘half full,’ the walk did us good and increased our amount of exercise over the weekend. As with all C&M Club Sites, you could eat your meal off of the floor in the facilities. The location, being a good distance from ‘civilisation’ is perfect for us and we will be back as this is what ‘we’ want from our camper van trips. – If you expect a short walk to the nearest pub or shops, you will be disappointed. Only 3/5 for ‘Good for Families’ as there is nothing here for children. Being ‘nimbyist’ I’m hoping to put people with children off, at least for when we go again. – Not that we’ve got anything against children, it’s just that we’ve been there, done that, got the tee shirt and ours are now adult and left home. – We are looking for something different now for our breaks away. Very friendly helpful wardens. Thank you again. – In the words of ‘Arnie,’ “I will be back!”
