A bit reluctant to write this review and give away the secret! This is a delightful Site, it is so peaceful and well kept. The facilities are spotless and the Wardens friendly & helpful. Not really suitable for children though but ideal for couples. A credit to the Wardens and the Club. Thank you all- Paula & David
I stayed on the Salisbury Hillside site for two midweek nights in late March. Very peaceful site primarily comprising forest glades with a small number of vans in each. Rural views across lovely countryside from some sites. Site is on the side of a hill with the entrance, reception, infohut and facilities block at the top end - A longish walk uphill from the lower part of the site. Located about 5 miles out of Salisbury. Six minutes drive to the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop - Very interesting. Wardens were very helpful - especially going the extra mile to search the site track for my missing motor mover controller after I left site (Silly of me to leave it on the A frame but I was distracted with a conversation to brand new caravanners on an adjacent pitch). Very good value with 50% discount for midweek stays.
Spent two nights here in our motorhome ....sited down the hill on a hard standing pitch amongst the trees still managed a TV signal from our satellite dome.
Immaculate facilities & friendly wardens
Busy main rd we thought not suitable for cyclists so we hopped on the 10.07 bus (bus stop at site entrance) into Salisbury (endless st)& caught the 4.00 pm back £10 cost for the two of us.
We had enough time to roam around and take in all the sites/views etc.in Salisbury.
We came here as a getaway from the South West Motorhome show at Shepton Mallet - clearly going to the market is not for us!
This site was therefore about half-way home and was a nice break.
Lovely quiet site, almost looked as if it was Adults only. Lovely friendly wardens when we arrived - great location, must return soon.
Superb site, lovingly cared for. Washrooms possibly cleanest and most pleasant smelling we've experienced. Entrance lane is very narrow and the speed ramp rather severe! Signage, not helped by the new logo, on main road could be better so make sure you know where the turning is.
The site was busy but people were quiet. Facilities were clean, but an uphill walk from some parts of the site. It is adjacent to a busy road and the pitches at the top of the site are quite noisy - also the site is several miles from Salisbury. There's a good dog walk adjacent to the site. There's plenty to do in the area - visit Salsbury, Old Sarem and Winchester - and although nearly an hour's drive, Buckler's Hard is worth a visit too.
We purchased a seasonal pitch at Salisbury Hillside and have not been disappointed. The site is beautifully managed and kept in tip top condition by Paula and Dave. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it is a shame for us they are retiring. The showers and toilets are always spotlessly clean with lovely hot showers and the reception area has a gorgeous display of flowers (and Paula's herbs which you can pick for free). The site is on a hill (clues in the title!) but there are pitches at the top or middle which are less effort to reach the facilities. The site is peaceful and views are fantastic. Our 2 year old loves the walks around the site and while there is not a playground, we feel there is enough space to let off steam (and for us it is preferable to go exploring rather than having to stand and push a swing for hours!).
Paula and Dave have gone above and beyond to help us out, in particular with an annoying alarm system in our van! They never make you feel it's too much of an effort. The information shed has lots of great sources for days out, the area is beautiful of course with plenty of places to visit, walk, cycle, fish etc. something for everyone. The shop has all the essentials plus lovely fresh eggs and New Forest ice cream!
We love spending our time at this site, perfect for a wind down on a Friday after a busy week with enough nearby that we've not got bored during our multiple weekends here! A big thank you again to Paula and Dave for being fantastic wardens.
We returned to Salisbury for a second time this year. This site is small and is so peaceful with its grouped pitches in amongst the trees, you really feel that you are in your own private space. The welcome from the wardens at this site is second to none, we were made to feel very welcome (as we have been on previous vists) and that it was important to them that we enjoyed our stay. The site has little light pollution and we had hoped to watch the meteor showers that were promised for the weekend, unfortunately the clouds obscured our view. The location is ideal for visits to Salisbury or a stroll along the high street at Stockbridge with its independent shops. We were sorry to hear that the present wardens will be retiring this year, but hope that replacements are found to match the high standards that have been achieved at Salisbury Hillside. Thank you.
Stayed here on the way to Dorset a couple of weeks ago...simply a lovely little site * the wardens have really made this a special place for either a quick stopover or longer stay...& thanks for the herbs!
