Nice place to be

This was our first visit to Poolsbrook Country Park and we were pleased with its setting, ease of access and proximity to the peaks. The park itself is a nice place to be with plenty of room to walk or cycle, fish or just sit and relax. As for the site, well the usual club standards were maintained as expected so overall a pleasant first stop on our annual 4 week tour. Next stop Durham Grange........

MOTORHOME NEWBIES

First time away in our motorhome which we had collected the day before and it was well worth it. Arrived mid afternoon to glorious sun shine and a warm welcome at the reception. Found a pitch we liked and settled in, hooked up chairs out and a nice cup of well earned tea, peace and very quiet. The site is great with all the facilities close to hand and all clean and well kept, if we were stuck for anything the reception were always there to help. All in all a fantastic time at Poolsbrook come and see for yourselves you won't want to leave.

Modern and Neat

Easy access off M1. Great for accessories get Doncaster, Sheffield, Chesterfield. Situated on a small country park. The site is modern and neat and generally clean, however the waste skip next to us had overflowing rubbish for work days and we had a fox around the caravan which I am sure was encouraged by this. The visitor car park was inadequate with only 2 spaces which were constantly occupied. The TV reception which is described as poor was actually non existent.  We had  nice greeting from the wardens and they were friendly.  The entire shower block is closed from 10:30-12:00 which as it's the only facilities is unacceptable. 10:30 is very early to shut the entire block and makes things very difficult especially on the day you leave. If you wish to shower after packing up, how can you leave at 12?  This does not encourage families with children.

Great facilities shame about location

We just returned from a 5 night stay at Poolsbrook. The site is up to the usual caravan club standards showers and toilet block spotless and good size clean pitches. The surrounding are is very industrial and the park is located just off the M1 literally so plenty of loud road noise. The "country park" has a lake and visitor centre with car park which attracts local boy racers playing loud music and wheel spinning up and down the car park which made us feel quite unsafe. There is a play area however again this seemed to attract youths (not sure if they were from the site) unsupervised swearing and shouting and not somewhere I would want my daughter to be playing. The nearby town of Staveley has a feeling of deprivation and again not a nice place to visit. We were recommended the Arkwright Arms public house for somewhere to eat. There is plenty of choice and its cheap but the food is not very good quality but I guess you get what you pay for. This site is probably ideal for an overnight stay travelling up or down the country but not one I would recommend for a holiday. In 10 years this is the worst caravan site we have stayed at (sorry) If you are thinking of staying here take a look on google maps first at the surrounding area.

Enjoyable week at Poolsbrook

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Poolsbrook albeit was Half-Term! Needless to say there was a lot of children, but this wasn't a problem for us. We managed plenty of walks along the Trail & along the canal from Staveley to Tapton Lock. Bolsover Castle was fascinating & very interesting. We will definitely return to this site. Would be great if there was more superior pitches! Many Thanks to all the Wardens on this site

Poolsbrook Visit - Slightly Disappointed

We recently stopped off at Poolsbrook Country Park when heading back north from our stay in London. A relatively new looking site just off junction 29A of the M1. The caravan park is situated next to the Country Park but among a mostly industrial area. The facilities were as you come to expect in the Caravan Club, clean and well maintained. There seemed to be a lot of wind blowing through the site even when outside the site seemed like there was none. Chesterfield was a short drive away with it's shops, cinema and eating places. Seems to be a popular place for families. Even though drivers are constantly reminded to drive slow on sites you just cannot legislate for out of control scooters and bikes fleeing around corners with no parental supervision!!! In all honesty the area in general didn't do much for us so apart from using the site as a stop over point when using the M1 I don't see any future prolonged stops at this particular site.

Quality stop over

This site made an excellent place to break our journey, from the south of the country to the north east, as it is so close to the M1. However it is far enough away for noise not to be a problem. The facilities were first class and the site layout appealing. If you enjoy walking the adjacent country park is ideal and has plenty to occupy children too. Chesterfield isn't too far away if you want some retail therapy but the area in between is more industrial than scenic. Didn't have long enough to investigate other places of interest in the area, eg. Bolsover Castle. We'll need to go back!

Great getaway

A lovely clean well kept site. The facilities are kept spotlessly clean and the grounds are well maintained. Only a short distance from the m1 but you feel like you are in the middle of the countryside. Will definitely be returning as it's an ideal location for a quick and easy getaway

Great touring location

What lovely site and staffed by wardens who represent the clubs values well. Easy reach from the motorway, ideal location for touring the Peak District and ideally situated for the country park adjacent. It's on our list of must go back to places and is so well kept with brilliant staff.   Everything good about the club was represented at the site when we stayed over a busy bank holiday.  Happy days
