Fab visit

Great sized site. Pitches fab size. Wc block is amazing & I believe an eco building. Great little walks around the lake which is in the country park next to the campsite. We even managed to order a takeaway pizza on just eat & they delivered to the gates ?? great location from the motorway

First visit

We used this site for the first time last week. It's a modern site, well kept with generously sized pitches. It's conveniently located just off the M1 and is therefore used a lot as an overnight stop. There are a lot of attractions nearby, including its own country park. We visited Hardwick old and new halls, and Bolsover Castle. There's a bit of noise from the M1 which may put off some but it wasn't a bother to us. We'd be happy to use this site again.

Still Maturing !

Returned to Poolsbrook purely because of it's position with respect to the motorway allowing me access to places other sites cannot reach ! Slowly the site is growing into maturity with the bushes etcetera bulking up and making the whole place look rather less stark than it was when it first opened. Pitches all seemed flat enough for most of us with few motorvans using levellers, and the hardstandings were particularly neat with few bits of grass showing thro the bright, creamy white gravel and all the edges seeming to be done with a T - Square !! Just a stroll into Staveley, and back after a supermarket shop and back in my recliner in under 2 hours total -- that can't be bad ! Just the occasional speeder but visibility on site is good & so kiddies, dog walkers & geriatrics ( me ! ) are in no danger . All in all it's a relaxing, easily accessible site for days out and its managed by some of the chirpiest wardens I've seen in a fair while. Will I be going back ?? of course I will but it will have to wait its turn with so many others to see first !

A Lucky Find

We hadn't intended to stay here, but are certainly glad we did.  Travelling down the M1 in foul weather with heavy traffic and delays, we decided to call it a day and, consulting our member's book, found the oasis that is Poolsbrook.  This site is definitely a jewel in the Caravan Club's crown.  The place is beautifully maintained and the facilities are pristine. What a joy to find showers that had enough room to turn around in and had a handy dry shelf to put stuff on. The wardens are very pleasant, cheerful and helpful.  Considering that it is only about a mile from a busy motorway, the traffic noise is minimal.  Unfortunately we did not have time to stay longer, but will definitely return to enjoy Hardwick Hall and Bolsover Castle and probably do some local fishing.

I am not one to complain But

I spend 4 or 5 months of the year around the UK and when you look around this area there are things to do or see, if you like to walk or cycle then here you can be safe and sound. There are 2 excellent pubs on lowgates and one brews his own the other try the food. The lake and wildlife are all about but close to the M1 I did not hear it, the rain comes so does the wind but the wardens were great, so complaints from me No. Thanks I will come again

we love it!

Our second 'staycation' at Poolsbrook we live in Mansfield. I was quite surprised at certain recent negative comments by other members. We spent four night/five days there early June 2016 and were lucky they were all sunny and warm! We were pitched alongside the footpath at the edge of the woods and didn't notice much noise from users of the country park or traffic noise on nearby M1. Those woods may act as a sound break and also picking a site away from the site's entrance would probably help avoid traffic noise. I didn't use WiFi but a leaflet explained it's rated a 'bronze' site with very limited speed - another member had commented about slow speed. TV reception using our caravan's factory-fitted aerial was fine, as it had been last time when sited in the open, central area near the shower block. I tried the booster outlet on the service bollard and found the same, good reception. That free booster service should work fine for modern TVs but does an extension coax cable, available at the office I think. The shower block's cleaning times didn't cause us any inconvenience but that's a personal issue and similar cleaning/closing times may be common on the club's site network. My wife thought the 'disabled' toilet was open during main room cleaning so at least a toilet and wash basin was available. Like another member I did see one dumpster overflowing so perhaps more frequent emptying needs to be arranged. On a positive note, Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Halls (restored main house and the other a ruins, NT and EH respectively) are within easy reach and my wife and I found them fascinating. On the four warm, fine days Pools Brook Country Park was a pleasant place to walk and 10 minutes away by car is Hollingwood Hub from which there are lovely walks alongside the Chesterfield Canal. Staveley is functional rather than pretty but has a sports centre, pubs and food plus Morrisons for shopping. Further afield Chesterfield's Crooked Spire and town centre are worth visiting along with, of course, scenic Derbyshire and even our club's Chatsworth site alongside beautiful Chatsworth House, a great place to stay if you book well ahead!

Very well kept site

2nd visit to Poolsbrook, and what a well run by great wardens, well kept site this is. I cannot understand why people write reviews about a C.C Site then talk about everything but the site. It isn't the wardens or C.Cs fault that we have rain in this country and land gets a little flooded, or a local area looks a little run down, or a boy racer goes past the site. Come on C.C Members, lets review the SITES for what they are, not the local yokels.

Nice site with issues

A lovely looking site but in too much of a built up area for us although easy access for M1. Shower and toilets closed for cleaning far to early at 10 30 am, Do some wardens forget we are on holiday!!! There was quite a lot of flooding one night while we were there, It was raining quite hard but we had a hard standing and had 2 inches all around us. I wouldn't set up on the 3 pitches just in front of toilet block as those poor people were completed surrounded by water, I hope they had wellies!! We did leave a day early. But a great location if just passing by but wouldn't want to spend to long here. Wardens friendly and dealt quickly with an issue we had.

Not quite our cup of tea

A good quality site with generous, level pitches and modern facilities, situated amid an area of maturing trees, which give it a pleasant feel. There are good leisure facilities adjacent and shops a mile or so away plus a bus stop only a short walk from the site entrance. Chesterfield's parish church with its iconic 'twisted spire' and the small museum (free) close by are well worth visiting. However, the constant background hum of traffic noise spoiled it to some extent and our personal preference is for a more rural location.
