One of the best

Very spacious pitches well separated. Immaculate warm facilities. Quiet and peaceful even though the site was full due to Half Term. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent walks for dogs. Only the weather let us down!

Cracking site!

The welcome was very friendly. The pitches were a good size. The facilities were very clean. The walks from the site were brilliant and the kids play area looked great. Can't fault a thing - unusual for me!

Half Term

The wardens we encountered at the site last week were some of the nicest we've come across for many years on any caravan club site. The whole site was immaculately kept. It was brilliant to actually see the wardens around the site other than cleaning and making sure everyone was alright. This is the service we used to expect at club sites but rarely get nowadays. With power failure for part of the site and storm Doris they really worked above and beyond their paid hours. Thank you to you both for a lovely stay. I have left feedback at the site as to issues for wheelchair users. Hard standings too deep, heavy facility doors, pathways. None of this impacted upon our holiday to any great extent. The walks around the site are ideal for all including wheelchair users and meant it was not necessary to travel for miles each day to walk the dogs. What did ruin the holiday were the club changes during the week. It's a shame that due to the changes to the club and especially the logo, that this was our last stay with the club after 45 years (my whole life) staying on club sites and CL's

Short half term break February 2017

A family of 4, we stayed at the site for 3 nights and overall were very impressed, especially with the cleanliness of the facilities which were kept immaculate. The location is ideal from the motorway although we found the final direction info on the route planner conflicted with the sign posting and actual route into the site. The children loved going around the site on their scooters and proximity to the country park play areas is great. One disappointment was that the site did not have any information on the tourer explorer cache so after obtaining the packs we were unable to complete the tasks we hoped too. All in all would highly recommend the site as the location is ideal for exploring the many local attractions such as Creswell Crags.

Another good local site

Another good site for us, 26 mins away, just 2 junctions down m1. The site is lovely and clean, wardens were friendly. Just a two minute walk to the country park and trans pennine trail, so its good for children and dogs, supermarket is 5min drive and Chesterfield is close about 5 mile away, definitely recommend it and we will return.

Very nice site but disappointing reception

We stayed for 3 nights in February 2017 and were generally happy with the site. It is easy to find and very convenient for the M1. As a consequence there is some noise - a distant whoosh - from the motorway but this didn't particularly bother us. It is nicely landscaped and close to the Poolsbrook park and lakes, but it is surrounded by industrial estates so you definitely need to get in the car if you want to explore Chesterfield or go out to eat. The showers and toilets were great - spotlessly clean and the cubicles were a good size with fixed seats in each. The water pressure could have been a bit better in the showers but that's a minor issue. The design of the site with the toilet block in the centre meant that wherever you were pitched it was an easy, level walk to the loos and showers - something that is a bonus on a wild wet morning in February! Being set within the Poolsbrook park was great too - with 3 fishing lakes we would have been spoilt for choice had it not been for the inclement weather - although we did notice several ardent anglers fishing away regardless. The only disappointment for us was the welcome. We had selected arrival between 4pm and 6pm and actually arrived at 5.15pm. However the office was closed and we had to search out a bell on a fence and then run back from the bell to the office in the wind and rain when someone appeared to open it up. There was no "Welcome to Poolsbrook - did you have a good journey" - just a rather curt request for us to select a pitch by looking at a plan on the reception wall. We would have preferred to have had the option of looking around before we chose but instead we had to pick a number. We were then handed a set of keys and a plastic card with no explanation of what they were for and we weren't given a site plan or any other information. We were left feeling that we were a real nuisance and inconsiderate for arriving at 5.15pm. This is certainly not the sort of welcome we have come to expect from Caravan Club sites and as a previous owner of a CL we would always have welcomed people properly, given them an information sheet, pointed out where things were and asked if they had any questions - whatever time they arrived. We know that it's really hard work running a caravan site - but a smile and a nice welcome costs nothing!

Good Site

Pleasantly surprised by the location and facilities at this site. It was well laid out and spacious (perhaps a bit more crowded when the grass pitches are occupied.) Plenty to do nearby, good for cycling in particular, a well equipped playpark, fishing and walking just outside the gates and a short walk to Staveley. A nice site for families and a good stop over for anyone on the move.

Nice winter break

Very pleasant reception by the wardens and information given about the surrounding area. Facilities very clean and well laid out. There were one or two instances where people were abusing the 5 mph limit and the one way system. Other than that would not hesitate to return.

Contrasting reception.

Recently arrived for our 2nd seasonal this winter, & what a difference in our welcome this time! Even though we were delayed & arrived about 6-o-clock our welcome was pleasant, & time taken to explain the area allocated to seasonals. Poolsbrook is well placed for many sites of interest including Bolsover Castle, Renishaw Hall, Hardwick Hall & for steam enthusiasts Barrow Hill round house. Close to the Chesterfield Canal for lovely walks along the Cuckoo Way. Hope the main summer site manages learn from the winter team that you can run this site effectively without being abrasive!
