This is the first time we have stayed here but it certainly won't be the last. This site is amazing. It has everything that you would expect and more. The cleanliness is first rate as is the service and support you receive from the staff. The pitches are big (and level) and the site is really easy to drive round and pitch. The weather was really bad when we were there but the tree screen around the site help immensely. The country park next door provides excellent walks. Would recommend this site to anyone and will certainly visit again. Fully deserves 5 starts.
Stayed with the family for two nights from 5th May. Our local site and always really clean and well kept. Booking in no problem, friendly staff but there were issues during the night. In the early hours of both Saturday and Sunday there were cars parked near the site with occupants shouting, screaming and playing loud music. During the Saturday afternoon and on Sunday morning there were off road motorbikes blasting around the adjacent footpaths. We love the site but if this is the norm then we may have to try elsewhere. Not the sites fault I know but the disruption did blot the short stay.
Bit of a cold wind on our visit this year but found a pitch with hedging that protected us whilst sitting out in the sunshine. Visited both Hardwick Halls in one go, would suggest it more sensible to allow two days as there are a great deal of stairs, lovely restaurant in the Stables. Bolsover Castle was also visited this time too. A meal at the Arkwright Arms is a treat. Didn't actually have time to walk around the park, but is something that you need to do preferably in the sunshine. The site and park are extremely busy over a weekend but much quieter mid week.
Another visit to the lovely Poolsbrook which is only half an hour from our home, but still feels like a holiday. Husband had the week off work so we went Monday to Friday and I commuted to the office. Could quite get used to that idea! Great site, spotless as always, really friendly wardens always busy tending the grounds and making sure everything is just so. Shower and toilet block one of the best, love the piped music and under flooring heating, a real luxury. Walkers paradise, but if you just want to kick back and do nothing, the peace and quiet of the site is idyllic. There are eating and shopping facilities really close by so you never need be short of provisions.
Stopped for 3 nights, 2 adults 2 children 3 dogs, lovely clean site with well spaced pitches. Great for dog walking every day around the lakes and trans pennine trail, and great Park for the children. All wardens where extremely friendly and welcoming , and shower blocks immaculately clean and always warm. Only downside to the site is the limited shop, it could easily stock more items but this is a small gripe realy, overall though we would definitely return.
3 night stay on what is our local site.
Wardens David & Jeanette cant fault, so friendly. David always around site doing something. With Jeanette the smiling, friendly face in and around the office.
Facilities as always, spotlessly clean. Good water pressure, hot water etc.
Site itself has really well tendered grounds, cut grass, hedges, flower beds etc.
What a great site!! We stayed here for 5 nights in April and thought it was a great place. The site is easy to find (sat nav friendly) and not far from the motorway but you didn't hear any noise from it. All the pitches are plenty big enough for a caravan/motor home, awning and car.
Its a great location for visiting the area and we thought there was plenty of things to see and do within easy reach.
Although there was no park (for children) on site there is a park next to the site which took literally 2 minutes to walk to which is most probably closer than some parks on other sites. Everything was very clean and tidy and the staff were very pleasant.
We will defiantly go back to this site.
We stayed here for 5 nights and had a wonderful break. The location was ideal for us with plenty of National Trust venues within easy reach. The wardens were extremely helpful as well as putting in lots of effort to keep the site in tip top condition. We will certainly return here as it is also a great stopover location if we are moving further afield.
Just off the M1, located in a former coal mine which has now been transformed in to lakes & a nature reserve. Staveley centre is a 1mile walk with a Morrisons, takeaways & local shops available. Lots of walking routes (circular) directly from the site, wheelchair/buggy/cycle friendly too.
The site is well presented, super clean facilities & well run by the wardens.
The Chesterfield canal path to Hollingwood Hub is worth a visit with narrow boat "rides" available at selected times (access the tow path behind Morrisons or via the "basin") - you can cycle to Chesterfield too (approx 4-5miles from Staveley).
The lake hosts a Parkrun each Saturday (9am).
We like this site for the ease of access & outdoor free activities.
You will never find a shower block as clean it is spotless and not just after it's been cleaned,One of my favourite sites because of this.
Walks straight from the site you you can either go round the lake for a short walk, you can take the walk that leads from the back of the reception. Or the other walk is from the gate turn right it can take you into the woods. What I was pleased with is all routes are wheel chair or scooter accieble which I was able to take my dogs outs.
