Testing our New van and awning

Testing our new Golden Wedding present to ourselves and we picked a crackin site to do it on. Not the first visit here and certainly will not be the last. Very friendly wardens who helped make our experience most enjoyable and full of fun and laughter. Thank you, see you again soon

BEEN GOING SINCE IT OPENED BUT NOT A GOOD WEEKEND THIS TIME

We have used Poolsbrook since day one. being only about three miles away its our weekend retreat, the site is immaculate as are the facilities. The wardens are pleasant as is the welcome., This time we pitched on number 76, we have done on many occasions but this time is was terrible, our pitch was used as a cut through by an annoying family opposite with a small camper van and three children. In all the years we have never noticed as many people cutting through pitches as this time. Its a great site spoilt by the inconsiderate member.

First time at this site

Were warmly welcomed by the Assistant Wardens and found a suitable pitch easily although the site was quite full. Found the facilities and the whole site very clean and tidy. Good for walking round the adjacent country park.

Terribly noisy midweek

We had visited a few times soon after the site opened but stopped going because there was a young local element who regularly toured the site on bikes causing trouble for the wardens and on occasion members. We just didn't feel safe at the time so after a several years we thought we should give it another try. What a surprise! The club have (unlike at Bridlington) have allowed the trees and shrubbery to grow thus making the stark new site much more pleasing. The wardens really care for this site even washing posts etc after strimming the grass. They are happy to have a chat no matter how busy they seem. Can recommend the canal walk to Tipton lock although the refreshments are basic they are cheap. Be aware of the path over the lock gates - our dog misjudged the narrow path and fell in! The market in Chesterfield is also worth a visit. There was however one negative - a big one for us that the club can't do anything about. We arrived Thursday and it was so so noisy. The site is next to an industrial estate and that along with the proximity of the M1 made the noise pretty intolerable. Even overnight, the earplugs had to be used. Friday offered no relief. By Saturday it was much much quieter and much more enjoyable. The industrial site was closed and we think there was a change of wind direction. We will definitely go back but not midweek.

Shame about screaming children ans loose dogs

First thing first; we were early arriving (by 20 minutes) so pulled up on the Park's access road. A few minutes passed before an outfit passed us on its way in. We eventually went into the site. Shortly after arrival a gent saw me us and asked why we were parked on the access road (turns out he was the one passing us). When I replied "because we were early" he laughed and responded, you don't bother about that, we're usually here about 11.30". It got better. Unfortunately we happened to be here on a very warm weekend. We were pitched near an area where 2 families were pitched. Over the weekend they took over an area with furniture, paddling pool and granddad's dog running around off the lead. No problem re the children until they started screaming and shouting with no response from parents and visitors. So far as the loose dog was concerned, it wasn't the only one. One caravan's door would open from time to time and 2 dogs would run out and run around the caravan and into a small copse adjacent. On top of that, a motorhome occupant would bring his dogs out and exercise them (on the leads) on the pitching areas. There was no point saying anything as the looks I got for shaking my head said it all. Children I agree have to be give space to play but surely not to the detriment of other visitors. So far as dogs are concerned, I have never, in 23 years of using Caravan Club sites, seen so many owners pay no regard to the rules. I am a dog owner and have grandchildren. As for early arrivals, it seems we (the club)l never deter them by being polite about it. The site itself is very good with plenty of walking to be done without need to use the car first. Other places of interest are close with Hardwick Hall 'just down the road'. I'm hoping we just picked a bad 5 nights as regards the company we kept.

Great little break staff are truly amazing!!

I would just like to say thank you so much to the kind and helpful staff at the site, It was our first time solo without any help the staff at Poolsbrook made everything so easy for us. The site is amazing so quite, best showers I've ever used on a site, the staff made so much effort in such hot weather to make sure everything was perfect for us. Pitches are huge and really good, we have booked again! The kids din't want to leave. We went for breakfast at the cafe in the county park and it was lovely and a good price! Thank you for an amazing stay and again truly amazing staff!! Mr & Mrs Kaye,

Back again, and so was the rain!

Visited two or three times in 2017 and being only 13 miles from home, this seemed a good place to start our season. And it was except for the last full day when it started to rain and then turned to thick fog as we departed. But that can happen on any camp site, club or otherwise. The great thing is the location, its easy to get there from the M1, the booking in process is simple, the pitches are all level, the toilets are spotless, the company from surrounding pitches was wonderful and there is so much walking available in the country park and places to visit in the surrounding area, need I go on? I will just mention though that I was really pleased to see Churnet Valley Railway timetables for the current season in the Information Room, as my wife and I are volunteers there. Best advice, book a pitch and see for yourself!

Lovely site

We have family who live in nearby Worksop and although we have used the Clumber Park site before, this is a little easier for us (travelling from the south) and strangely, is easier for the relatives to get to too! The site is easy to get to from J29A on the M1 and generously laid out with plenty of hard standing pitches (a must as our stay was early April 2018). The adjacent country park is right on hand for long dog walks and family friendly with a well sized play park and café (although watch out for opening times!) The only thing we missed was an onsite play area. One thing we love about going away to CAMC sites are that we feel assured that our 8yr can have some independence with cycling and use of play facilities without mum and dad having to be in constant tow! We will certainly use the site again
