Exceptional Views

Some of the best sea views on the network. It is a sloping site, (but that helps people at the back (top?) also have views. The facilities are at the top of the hill - but that is on account of the bottom of the site gradually falling into the sea. (Don't worry about that, it's still a little way from the nearest pitch). Handy for Whitley Bay, which though run-down in parts, has still some good facilities available. The site was busy, but the wardens were friendly. We'd be happy to return, but it's not the best site for anyone with mobility problems, on account of the hill, but, as we said earlier, the slope does mean that there's some great views.

Shame this great site is going down hill.

We have been visiting this site for the past 29 years now and since we first went the site has lost the front row of pitches to coastal erosion. However, the number of pitches seams to have remained the same making the site a little cramped unless you are luckily enough to get one of the 4 pitches on the top row or 2 or 3 on the very front. Pitches used to have two rows of reasonably level paving slabs on but now are just roughly gravelled making pitching difficult on some. Toilets have been improved over the years but are not of the standard found on many refurbished club sites. during our visit this week the wardens seamed a little disorganised and placed a van on our pitch while we were out for the day in our motorhome, despite there being the sign I left saying the pitches was occupied and equipment on the pitch. The person sited on my pitched had very sensibly queried this with the warden and evidently been told the site was full the only pitch they had. (I counted 4 empty ones but the sign on the site gate said the site was full). In the office the warden insisted to me that the my pitch was occupied by Mr Roberts, to which I replied, "you are correct, that is me!" Despite the comical chaotic absurdity of the warden, the site is in a fantastic location with magnificent views out to see, if you get a pitch that has them. The St. Mary's lighthouse that can be seen from the site is easily walked to in a few minutes and the whole area has plenty to do and magnificent beaches near by.

Brill site

Loved it here your right next to the sea. Wardens very happy and chatty. A small walk away to St Marys lighthouse which you can go to when the tides out was nice. We have already booked to return. A nice relaxed site.

A lovely quirky site

We made our second visit to Old Hartley late July and the views are even better than we remembered. The pitches are hard standing but you have in most cases to go over grass to get to them. Although the pitches are fairly flat the site is on quite a severe slope which is good for the views but not so good for walking up to the toilets or walking for a bus. The bus stop is about 200 yds from the site entrance taking you to Tynemouth, Newcastle and many other places. The site and toilet block was kept clean and tidy and the wardens were very pleasant as is usual with Caravan Club Sites. Will we go again? indeed we will!

we only had one night there but will definitely visit again lovely location site was spotless ,warden was a great guy very friendly and informative .

Midweek Stay

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this site. Arrived later than planned the site was nearly full. The warden pointed out the free pitches and advised I take a walk around to take my pick. I have read the previous reviews and I can say although brief my interaction with the warden were very jovil and he came a cross as a decent chap. He spent time giving me a run down on places to visit and things to do. The toilet block although a litle bit dated is kept spotlessly clean. Plenty to do and a must is the chip shop in Seaton Sluice "The harbour view".By far the biggest fish i have ever been served. We will be back.

unfriendly

This was our first visit to this site. The views are outstanding and its in a lovely location. However, we found the wardens unfriendly and unhelpful. The pitches are sloping and after struggling to get our twin axle on blocks the male warden was most rude and told us to move our van by 18 inches. He was very unpleasant which we found upsetting after a very long drive . We have been members for over 10 years and used CC sites all over Great Britain and Abroad and this was our first experience of a bad welcome.

Disappointing

Member over 30 yrs and never felt unwelcome until now. Frosty unfriendly reception. Site needs good overhall. Showers, not enough and too small. Terracing of site would give more and better pitches. Service area at bottom of site needs to be restored instead of steep incline. Views fantastic. Good for walks, cycling and shopping.

This site does not live up to it's beautiful views

Good family location. Great Views. Warden could have been friendlier. There was a car parked on the plot we chose ( even though the plot was not taken) and the warden said we could not have it as it was too close to the gas storage tank. This was clearly not the case as there was a caravan on a plot at the other side of the gas tank which was closer to it!! Toilet block in need of upgrade. Shower cubicle very small. All in all, a very disappointing site given the fact that it was not a cheap site. We will not return to this site, however we will return to the location.

Lovely Walks

First time on this site and loved it walked to Whitley Bay most days. Views were great. Good bus service they go to Newcastle. Wardens were helpful and friendly wash room clean. Never had to wait for shower only 3. Maybe need doing up but they are okay. Was worried about how much we needed to level up but not to bad but think some were worse. Will go back.
