An absolute Gem

Believe it or not we only live a few mile down the road but we absolutely love this site, we never tire of it and why bother travelling the length of the country when something like this is on your doorstep, unless of course you live somewhere else then you must find time to visit.

Spectacular view

First visit to a site we have intended to visit for a long time and not disappointed. I could see the problem that motorhomes have getting level on the sloping site but no problem with a caravan and the view from our pitch at the bottom of the site was very special. On the advice from other reviews we tried the fish and chips from harbourview and I cannot remember having better. Good dog walks from the site along the coast.

Great site, bad pitches

This is the first time we have been on this site. Great position and regular buses into Whitley Bay and on to Newcastle. Beautiful views from wherever you are. However, as a motorhome owner, I have to agree with previous comments about the size of pitches and the fact that they are not level. The toilets are spotlessly clean However, the showers are a bit outdated with nylon curtains which cling to you when the water is flowing. Difficult access for our large motorhome to take on water and drain the waste as the filler/waste are on the wrong side to adhere to the one way system which is in place. Also on a steep slope. The wardens on duty when we were there were very helpful and friendly. However, all in all a great stay and we will return.

September 2016

We stay regularly at Old Hartley, as we have friends who live close by. The site is well positioned for some great local amenities, and is well maintained by the very helpful wardens, who do the best they can, I'm sure. However, I have to say that the site is a bit tired; it needs some attention to the pitches, most are too small and not motorhome friendly because of the gradients. Perhaps those sites that cannot support a motorhome because of gradient and size could be marked as such, and allowance made at time of booking. I also feel the toilet block could do with an upgrade. It is kept very clean though - no problems there. The service point is also a bit of a struggle - access is tight. So spectacular views and great local facilities let down by standards below the Caravan Club norm.

Annual Visit

We return every year to this site as the location is stunning and there is plenty to do and see in the area. There is loads of walking from the site. The pitches on the site are quite small and sometimes can be difficult for larger outfits. We don't know if the Club own the site, but if they do it is urgently in need of a major refurb. The showers and facilities are spotlessly clean, but very tired. The fresh water, waste and toilet emptying are at the top of the site, which makes it hard work if you are down at the bottom of the hill. This is a nice site, but could be spectacular.

Stunning views

This site has one of the best locations with stunning views of St Mary's island.  It is a fantastic location for discovering the coastal area. The wardens could not have been more friendly and accommodating during our stay. Highly recommended.

Lovely views

Great site with outstanding views of coast line, plenty of coastal walks with watering holes to stop at. Fish and chips from the Harbour view chip shop is amazing more like whale and chips. Nice at bottom of site but remember you have to empty waste at the top by toilet block bit of a haul up hill. Wardens great as was the facilities for cleanliness, lots to do and see.
