First time on this site and loved it walked to Whitley Bay most days. Views were great. Good bus service they go to Newcastle. Wardens were helpful and friendly wash room clean. Never had to wait for shower only 3. Maybe need doing up but they are okay. Was worried about how much we needed to level up but not to bad but think some were worse. Will go back.
Site Full
We love this site, but if we try to get on to site with no notice we are always told site is full. We booked last weekend and had a lovely time . But as on previous occasions there were at least 4 sites vacant all weekend. Why?Ā

Lovely views - However
We arrived on site on 10/7/16 was a bit tight and felt people in houses nearby had their driveways obstructed. I got out to check site and look for pitch and to say I was dismayed is an understatement. Pitches are way to small especially when you have a twin axle, I found a pitch (39) but hubby had great difficulty trying to reverse into this small area as electric point and pitch stick were somewhat very tight, after trying with no success and almost burning the car clutch, hubby moved down and drove straight into pitch 44. Beautiful views but site us very uneven, slopping and pitches way to small. Lack of water and grey waste facilities, had to lug up hill to do these. Painting was in progress so laundry was out of use as was disabled toilet while these works were carried out. No grab rails in ladies showers which were smaller than actual toilets. Advise you take some time out and enlarge pitches and put further water and grey waste points in. This is a wee gem of a site but CC really need to quickly upgrade. Oh and motorhomes parked outside site, using facilities free is somewhat Ā annoying when you've paid Ā£158.00 for your own stay, security badly required here.Ā
weekend spoilt by noisy people in motorhomes
3 motorhomes in car park adjacent to site using the site's facilities for free we were there 3 days and they apparently had been there for a week does not sit well when we're paying so much for so little there are no locks on the facilities or barriersĀ
Booked in at 12 pm could not get on to pitch I had chosen till 1pm as grass was to be cutĀ
Feel robbed if I had gone behind the hedge anytime arrival use of the facilities all for freeĀ
Fantastic view
Enjoyed our stay at Old Hartley site. Friendly staff, good clean facilities, excellent views to St Mary's lighthouse. Lovely coast walk to Blithe. Ok walk to Whitley Bay. Not a lot in Old Hartley, there's a pub at the entrance to the site but didn't go in so can't comment on it. A couple of places to eat at Seaton Sluice, 15 minutes walk from the site.
Wonderfull view.
We were lucky enough to get pitch 41 which was 1 pitch down the hill from the toilet block so just manageable for a pensioner pulling full waste trolley & toilet cassette, a fresh water tap, grey water & chemical toilet waste point at the bottom of the site is needed here.I gave a low rate for family friendly because of there being only 3 showers & WCs in the gent's so more people equates to more waiting.
Having said all this I would love to return again because of the stunning location friendly wardens and general cleanliness that seems to be a trade mark for the caravan club sites.
Fabulous views, but !!!
As the site picture shows the views can be good but on the other hand :-
We were on pitch 49 which is at the bottom of a reasonably steep hill for a pensioner. Unfortunately the nearest water, grey waste and toilet emptying facilities were at the shower block at the top of the hill. To drag a full waste up the hill was a struggle so take my advice and take it half empty. There were a number of mumblings from other members about this point.
The pitches are quite small in comparison to the norm and the info is correct when it recommends levelling blocks, (not all pitches but be ready).
The toilet and shower block were adequate, only had to queue only once for the shower, and were kept very clean and tidy by the wardens as was the site in general.
The site is ideally located for Newcastle and the southern part of Northumberland with public transport access not too far away. The site would be much improved with the provision of drinking water and waste at the bottom of the hill where the bins are located. All in all a pleasant stay but improvements are justified.
Fabulous Views
Just returned from Old Hartley site after 3 night stay. Pitches quite small on a fairly steep slope but we were lucky to get a pitch at the bottom of the site which was level and had fantastic views of St Marys lighthouse. Toilet and shower block needs a makeover - looks a bit dated although it was clean. Caught the local bus into Newcastle which we would not do again - 1 hour on a bus to do 10 miles! Cycled to Tynemouth which was a lovely place to visit with a fort/castle and great pubs and restaurants. Wardens very friendly. On site shop could do with stocking more products.
Fantastic view
This was our first visit to this site. Approach to the site was very congested when I arrived and was difficult to wait outside in the queue without causing an obstruction but it didn't last long and wardens were as welcoming as ever. We felt that pitches were small and rather close. However the views were stunning with easy access to cliff tops walks. The local town of Whitley bay has seen better days. Not somewhere I would recommend. In its favour it did have good efficient links to Newcastle by metro system which was very good.
