Lovely but its looks tired
I have used this site a few times now as a base to visit family in Whitley Bay. The location near St Mary's Island and the view is lovely. The site is on a steep hill so most pitches needs blocks under the steadies. Some hard standing pitches are very small, some larger. The shower block is at the top of the site so for OAPs its quite a trudge. The shower block and the 3 shower cubicals for men are small, tired decor, dated. The toilet windows are on the same wall as the fresh water tap, and grey waste drain. Its not very nice when the windows are open which is most of the day.
For caravanners at the bottom of the hill there is no service points whatsoeve except dustbins for recycle rubbish. Surely the caravan club could afford to put in a stand pipe for fresh water at least. I have watched countless old folk lugging their grey waste or toilet cassetes up the steep hill to the shower block, what a struggle. Again I would have thought the club would have some onus of responsibility under the health and safety act to exercise a Duty of Care to their club nembers as the service points or lack of them leaves a lot to be desired. In a nut shell the site should be shut for the 2017 season and rebuilt, replanned and refurbished. The entrance is only wide enough for one vehicle and outfit to pass through, consequently the arrivals congest the small road blocking residents riveways and access. Any club members in cars wanting to come in or go out has to wait until the wardens have checked in the new arrivals. Its all very Fred Carno. The area is nice for coastal walks, brilliant chippy in seaton sluice, the serving are huge. The resort is quite with little for families to do especially on rainey days. Outside the area there are places of interest to visit.
So get your finger out Caravan Club and revamp this site urgently. Would I use this site again, not if there was a another touring park nearby.
