Arrived and left.

Melrose has been one of our favourite sites for a good few years. We arrived on Sunday 10th July, to be greeted with you only book for 1 person there are 2 of you. Genuine mistake on my part. Next crime I had booked on line in Febuary! We were booked in and payed. I thought price a bit more than I expected but due to greeting didn't say anything. We drove around realised that the only 3 pitches left were unsuitable for us, either backing onto the tennis courts or the housing estate. Both areas are no no from previous visits. Needless to say we were given a refund and we left. As we were going we were then informed some of our preferred areas would be free the following morning. On working it out I realised why I thought it expensive I had been overcharged £25!!! Not only does the lady need to treat people arriving for a holiday with a little more curtisy but she also needs to learn to add up. In the 16years of membership we have never met so rude a warden, the male warden didn't say a word just stared fron behind the office door frame. We found an affiliated site and it is a gem.

Message from The Club:

We are very sorry your expectations were not met on this occasion and wanted to clarify re the alleged overcharge, it appears that in-fact the £25 was not an over charge, it would appear that there was some confusion with 2015 & 2016, pricing as follows: 2015 pricing for STDHA for 2 adults was £23, this breaks down as £7.40 per adult with an £8.20 pitch charge = £115 for a 5 day stay. Prices for 2016: for STDHA is £28 based on 2 adults, which breaks down as £8.50 per adult and a £11 pitch charge =  £140 for a 5 day stay, giving the price difference of £25.

On the subject of the warden being rude, this is certainly not what we have experienced from the staff on Site and generally we receive encouraging and positive comments in relation to how the staff fulfil their duties, which is reflected in the positive reviews and feedback we receive from members who visit the site. We welcome you to contact us if you would like to discuss your experience further.

most convenient

Quality of facilities excellent. Very well maintained camp site. Welcome and advice given by wardens was good. Ideal for Motorhome and was a good stopping off point on our way up to Scotland. Very close to Melrose centre just a short stroll to the High Street for provisions and meals

Great Site

Stayed here for 3 nights as a family of 4 (2 young children) and the site is up to the usual CC standards. Wardens were excellent from the moment we checked in, until we left and the site is a credit to them. Very pleasant and always a hello and a smile. Site is very well maintained with excellent, very clean facilities. Site was full during our stay, but no problems getting showers, using dishwashing facilities etc. Location is fantastic - only a 2 min walk to town centre with the benefit that that brings together with easy access to the surrounding countryside. Melrose itself is a lovely small town with a few hotels, restaurants etc. Majority of outfits on site were couples - no play park on site although there is an excellent park just outside the main entrance. We knew this before we arrived, so no problem for us. The Borders is a beautiful part of Scotland often overlooked, but worthy of a visit. I'd recommend this site/location to anyone and would have no hesitation in returning.

great location

just spent 3 nights here whilst attending a wedding in Galashiels, a very pleasant site with cheerful wardens and good access. slight road noise but nothing to disturb you unless you want perfect quiet whilst stood outside. same with the park next door I could hear some yoofs having very animated games of footy, but nothing to disturb you inside your van or on any of the pitches away from the park side. the centre of Melrose is a 2 min stroll away with shops pubs and restaurants. great site for walking or touring about in your car or for getting the train into Edinburgh from Tweedbank station. All in all a great site can't wait to return!

Great location at the edge of Melrose

Spent one night here late May on our tour of Scotland. Well laid out site with views of the hills. Only 5 minutes walk to the Center of Melrose. Nice dog walks nearby and over the river half a mile away. Only annoyance was the pile driving happening 400 yards from the site but this will probably be over by early June. Very clean facilities and well laid out site with dog walking facility on site.

Very peaceful site!

Great site! Great wardens! Great weather! Really appreciated not having to listen to a lawnmower over the weekend! Well done Wardens!! I personally would ban grass cutting everywhere on Saturdays and Sunday's. Nothing better than being able to 'chillax' at least 2 days of the week - not much to ask for - save the grass cutting for through the week!  We will be back!

First time stay

A super site for our stay 1st to 6th June 2016. Cannot praise the wardens enough nothing was a problem for them they deserve warden of the year award. My wife needs a wheel chair to get around and it was so easy to get into town with her and enjoy Melrose. Thank you wardens.

First visit to Scottish Borders

Very good site, ideal location for a moto-rhome where you can easily walk into the town for coffee or evening meal. Best rugby field I've ever seen, looked more like a bowling green. Check out the Italian restaurant - Monte Casino in the old railway station, meal was excellent. Don't miss out on visiting Abbotsford House, and a walk down the river to the old pedestrian 'Chain bridge' A worthwhile camp site its in my book for a return visit.
