Meathop in the rain!

Stayed here for six nights recently, windy, wet but still very enjoyable. The facilities are first class, and so are the Wardens. Grange and Cartmel are well worth a visit. Quiet part of The Lakes with easy access to everywhere. Would avoid pitch 69 next time because it floods badly in wet weather, although it does drain away quite quickly.

Water, Water everywhere!

Booked 3 nights at Meathop Fell and very nearly cancelled prior to our visit following the very wet weather in the area. Glad we didn't as we had a very peaceful and enjoyable time. Yes the surrounding areas were under water at low level but the site was perfectly usable, the facilities are excellent spotlessly clean and the staff were friendly and helpful.

November in Grange

We come here every year in early November, last year we had frost, this year we had storms and lashing rain. It never deters us as there is so much to do even in winter and modern caravans are so cozy. This year on the recommendation from other reviewers we tried the Royal Oak at Lindale for Sunday lunch. The food was great, but the service was a little slow. It was very busy, which is always a good sign. Yet again there were problems with wifi, almost every site we go to has problems now. Usually the Wardens don't want to know, but here at Grange they couldn't have been more helpful. They contacted Air Angel who told them to re-boot the system and it worked. Surely that's all the Wardens at other sites need to do. Its a lovely train ride to Barrow, but not much to see when you are there. The Maritime Museum was closed. Parking at Grange station is reasonably priced and is secure. This time of year the site is still busy, having said that all were wrinkly's like us and in the same mind 'peace and quiet please!'

Hardstandings

We visited this site between Nov3rd to Nov 9th (a very wet week) and found our pitch to be very mossy and slippy, I slipped a few times whilst changing my water and waste barrels, some of these pitches need new gravel laying down to make them easier to walk on and safer, apart from that its a nice site.

Forgot How Nice It Was

Just visited Meathop, and we had forgotten what a little gem it is. The location is good for the lower end of the lakes. Very pretty at this time of year. Walking, visiting houses, lots of places to visit or just relaxing on site - Perfect! Plus the wardens were very nice and the site kept well, with the added bonus of really nice warm toilet facilities

Top Class Half Term

We stayed here for the week during half term last week. This was our 2nd visit to the site and yet again we were not disappointed. There had been a change in wardens since last time but I say this not as a negative - the wardens on this ARE BRILLIANT!! Especially the Assistant Wardens who organised a fantastic fun Halloween evening last Saturday. They went to so much effort to make it fun for all the family. They dressed the whole site with Halloween decorations, written a creepy story for a moonlit walk around the site, they dressed up in costumes and provided prizes and fun games for the kids. Without doubt , the best wardens we have ever come across and are so very very helpful. They all worked hard all day everyday. The site is slightly unlevel in places and we required the use of our levelling block but the pitches are well looked after. The views from the site a lovely, surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is right next to the Woodlands Hotel, perfect for a quick pint before an evening meal. The site is perfect for visiting the lake district. We went to the beatrix potter experience in Bowness which was great for the kids. Also went to the South Lakes Safari Zoo and fed the lemurs amongst other animals.  We had a great week despite the weather and will be returning again in 2016.

Another wonderful stay at Meathop Fell

A wonderful team of wardens look after this site. Not only a spotless wash block and site but entertainment was planned for Halloween,  which sadly we had to miss, it sounded as if it would be great fun. It's great base from which to explore the Lake District. The Woodlands hotel a short walk up the road, serves lovely food at reasonable  prices. Grange over Sands is a lovely  seaside town with plenty of tea rooms for that afternoon tea and cake and lots of places are quite accommodating  if you have a dog with you.  We have visited this site a few times now and it is always  a pleasure to stay here.  Definitely  a site that we will return to.

Lovely peaceful site

We stayed at the end of half term week. The toilet block was modern warm and spotlessly clean. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. The only problem we found was that there was no dedicated dog walk. There were plenty of on lead walks in the woods and nearby country lanes but there was nowhere where our dog could have a run off lead. Nevertheless we will go back.
