Not as good as in the past

Excellent toilet facilities staff very pleasant.  However we have been going to this site for twenty years approx. And the actual upkeep of the grounds over the past three years have been going down hill.  The pitches look very untidy also the July prices have made us decide to go elsewhere.

Everything you need

Stayed here for 11 nights in March 2016. We were met by friendly, helpful staff who made us feel very welcome and we were offered spaces close to the ablutions and on hardstanding which is a relief when touring in a motorhome especially after so much rain. Thanks to the wardens (who's names I forgot to get, sorry) the start to our trip in the lakes was as good as it gets. The facilities were lovely and warm and kept spotlessly clean (I just love this bit about the CC sites). Hubster and myself use the disabled ablutions and they could not be faulted. The water pressure is great, the water lovely and warm and the room kept just at the right temperature considering it was still quite cold outside. We used the well equipped laundry on site. I must say having two washing machines and two tumble dryers is a great help. Being slightly slow in my chores of laundry (and I tend to save it up until I have 4 loads to do) I get myself into a bit of a tizz when there is only one machine as I don't like holding other users up. They are expensive to use but they wash and dry well and as we all know, until they start making self-cleaning clothes laundry must be done and I for one would rather have the convenience of doing it on-site. The site is well laid out on several levels. The access road is narrow and steep but not as scary as it first looks. The service areas and site are kept neat and tidy and the site is a pleasure to stay at. We will be back when up that way again. Many thanks to all involved. Regards Jules & Bill

great location overlooking the estuary

Our first time at Meathop Fell however we found the site very clean and wardens welcoming and helpful. the site has a mixture of 'green' pitches amongst the trees and open pitches over looking the estuary and Morecambe bay , we opted for an open areaq away from the trees as our week was dogged by persistent rain . Facilities very clean and site overall very well maintained. Good for our 11 year old children who enjoyes cycling on the site and the play area . Good access to South Lakeland and Lancashire in general. the only disappointment was the weather but I dont think the wardens can be blamed for that !!

Beautiful location, lots to see and do nearby

Just spent a nice Easter break at this site. Wardens friendly and efficient and keep everything in good order, very spick and span. Access to the site is steep and winding at one point but is worth the hairy few moments once you are past them and on site. Site location is very good for visits to many places in the South Lakes. We only had time to visit Kendal and Grange over Sands on the Sat and Sunday. Unfortunately the excellent fish n chip shop at G -o-S recommended to us was closed on the Sunday. On our arrival day Friday, we stayed on site and had a walk round to the Woodlands Hotel for an early evening meal. The service was very good but food a tad expensive for what it was I thought. I'd probably go again but choose something like the fish and chips or similar rather than the peppered steak (which was very chewy for the £18 price) with hindsight the F&C looked better value for money at about £7 cheaper if my memory serves me right. We have booked to stay on this site again in the summer but will bring a car as that will make travelling around the South Lakes a little less challenging than in the larger motorhome. We stayed here a few years ago and enjoyed that stay just as much but I was probably to lazy to review it. One concern I do have is that there are quite a lot of trees which will be in full leaf by then. I just hope this doesn't become akin to Park Coppice where we stayed there once but never again as the trees just cover the site so much that in certain areas you feel like you are staying in a forest which makes it very dark and gloomy. At Meathop Fell there are so many lovely views it would be such a shame to hide them.  Aware of the problems with the WiFi we ensured we had brought along our own portable dongle. Both that and our phones are on 3 network and the connection was excellent. Thank you Caravan Club and the current team at Meathop Fell for providing us members with such a lovely well kept site to stay on.

MY FAVOURITE SITE

Have been several times, great site for me as a fly fisherman and probably the best fish n chips in nearby Grange over sands your ever going to taste. Just a shame about the wifi, i hope they can sort that out.

Lovely Location & well kept site

Friendly wardens, very clean, well kept site. Plenty of walks from the site though some road walking necessary. Lack of public transport means that to go further afield own transport necessary. Cartmel is worth a visit via footpaths (map necessary) & Grange also within striking distance. The wifi reception was extremely poor, to the point that it was unusable, sign in took 5+ minutes then I was unable to access simple web pages. Spoke to AirAngel who told me that they were aware of an issue & were investigating with BT but I got the impression from reception that this has been a problem for some time. This and lack of public transport nearby were only downsides & notwithstanding these I would definitely go back.

Don't drive by Meathop:

For many years, we've driven by Meathop (usually on our way to Park Coppice) - and it's a mistake! On the edge of the Lake District it is perfectly placed for all the usual tourist destinations, but also opens up opportunities on the Morecombe Bay coastline and the much quieter Western Lakes. Although easily accessible from the M6, other reviewers have commented on a slightly awkward approach to the site - but taken at a steady pace, we weren't challenged unduly. After a bit of levelling, we enjoyed a partial view of the coast across open fields from our pitch. So don't drive by... Pay Meathop a visit and be rewarded with a great site in a quiet location.
