Spinning Wheels!!

Stayed 21/7 for 3 nights in our Carado Motorhome from Alnwick in Northumbria. Big thanks again to the Team at the Site who promptly got me moving again on a grassy stand!! The whole experience a Meathop Fell was undoubtedly the best of 2016 so far. Grange over Sands is well worth a visit with a walk along the promenade, not to be missed. We also used the Woodlands Hotel 500yds away. Can certainly recommend for a walk too and a friendly drink, but don't bother with the Restaurant !! ( poor menu, quality & presentation) Will certainly be back. Thankyou again.

LOVELY SITE

We stayed here for our first visit to this site for two weeks in June and really enjoyed it. We pitched away from trees in a lovely spot, and despite the long hike uphill to the facilities, found the site so relaxing and peaceful. Grange is well worth a visit for a walk along the prom, and it has a well stocked Co-op, excellent fruit and veg shop, bakers and butcher. Arnside Knott (NT) is worth a trip (not suitable for motorhomes due to narrow access). Climb to the top of the Knott to see the beautiful Morecambe Bay, and back across to Meathop. Fell Foot park (NT) is a lovely spot too on the edge of Windermere to have a walk with the dog, or let the kids play or loads of other things to do. There are so many places to see we just wished it wasn't so far for us to come from Devon! If you want the biggest and best piece of chocolate cake in the world then visit the café at Sizergh Castle. The site was busy whilst we were there, but never had a problem with available showers. Our only main niggle was the lukewarm water - both for showers and washing up, and the disappointing wi fi, but hey, we were happy!

lake district newbies

What a lovely site, the facilities were SPOTLESS no matter when we used them. The staff were friendly and a mine of information on the local area. The shop is well stocked with lovely fresh bread daily and you can order for the next day. It was very quiet with mostly older couples but as the English schools had not broken up for the holidays there were no other kids for our 8yr old to chum up with which is unusual. The pitches were quite uneven and required a lot of levelling so bear that in mind and as there are lots and lots of trees satellite reception was zero and we were only able to get a few channels on free view. The road into the site is very narrow and steep and there is a risk of grounding out when leaving the site and turning right towards Grange over Sands, our tow bar took a dunt (no caravan attached). This was our 1st but certainly not our last visit, the surrounding area is stunning and there is so much to see and do. This is definitely our new favourite place and we plan to return regularly.

First Stay at Meathop

This was our first stay at Meathop in our Motorhome. Access to the site is along a narrow road with passing places but proved to be no problem at all. The site is quiet and well kept with very good, clean modern facilities. The site wardens are very friendly and helpful and there is a good shop on site selling local produce. The roads around the site are very good for cycling with several quiet cycle routes nearby. On the whole, a very enjoyable stay at Meathop and we will certainly be returning in the future.

Excellent Site

Our first stay at Meathop Fell. The site is very easy to access from the M6. The drive from the main road has several passing places so makes access very easy. The wardens were friendly and helpful and very quickly resolved a problem where a pump became blocked at one of the service points. Shower blocks were spotless and although water pressure not what I get at home it was more than adequate for purpose and certainly hot enough. The site is in a perfect position to explore the Lake district.  As you would expect for the Lake District we did get some rain and the only thing I would try and avoid on a future visit is to pitch too close to trees. The water dripping from the trees did keep us awake on a couple of nights! We didn't  use the WiFi as we picked up a very good 4G signal on Vodafone. There are plenty of shops in Grange but to be honest the Supermarket in Kendal is a relatively short trip if you would prefer to have a good choice of groceries in one hit. We will certainly use this site again when we next visit Cumbria.

Peaceful site

Our second visit to this site. It is so peaceful and within easy distance of the southern lakes. Wardens were very friendly and facilities spotless. Grange over Sands is a lovely small town with a fantastic butcher. The walk along the promenade is very pleasant on a sunny day.

Meathop Fell

This is a nice site but looking a bit tired between pitches .wifi was a waste of money as it was useless unless you used it after midnight

Happy campervaners

We had a hard standing spot which was a tarmac area rather than gravel which was fine for us as it was also in in a very unused corner. As always good CC facilities& staff, although we found washing up not as hot as most sites. Happy couple of nights
