Excellent Site

Our first stay at Meathop Fell. The site is very easy to access from the M6. The drive from the main road has several passing places so makes access very easy. The wardens were friendly and helpful and very quickly resolved a problem where a pump became blocked at one of the service points. Shower blocks were spotless and although water pressure not what I get at home it was more than adequate for purpose and certainly hot enough. The site is in a perfect position to explore the Lake district.  As you would expect for the Lake District we did get some rain and the only thing I would try and avoid on a future visit is to pitch too close to trees. The water dripping from the trees did keep us awake on a couple of nights! We didn't  use the WiFi as we picked up a very good 4G signal on Vodafone. There are plenty of shops in Grange but to be honest the Supermarket in Kendal is a relatively short trip if you would prefer to have a good choice of groceries in one hit. We will certainly use this site again when we next visit Cumbria.

Peaceful site

Our second visit to this site. It is so peaceful and within easy distance of the southern lakes. Wardens were very friendly and facilities spotless. Grange over Sands is a lovely small town with a fantastic butcher. The walk along the promenade is very pleasant on a sunny day.

This is a nice site but looking a bit tired between pitches .wifi was a waste of money as it was useless unless you used it after midnight

Happy campervaners

We had a hard standing spot which was a tarmac area rather than gravel which was fine for us as it was also in in a very unused corner. As always good CC facilities& staff, although we found washing up not as hot as most sites. Happy couple of nights

Meathop Fell

I am a regular visitor to this site which I do like.  The staff are helpful and friendly. Facilities are kept very clean. One last reviewer complained about the lack of good food shops being nearby - the site shop keeps a supply of most items but Grange Over Sands which is a 5 minute drive away has an excellent bakers - Hazlemere Bakery and an equally good award winning butchers shop.  Cartmel which is not too far away has an Artisan bakery and cheese shop.  I will agree with the reviewer that "many pitches looked a bit scruffy between the grass and hard standing areas."  They possibly could do with re gravelling. I found that the Wi Fi on this site was almost useless.

A great site for all

This was the first time that we had used this site. It was chosen due to its location and accessability, by motorways and main roads. The staff were excellent and have, almost, a checklist that give users all of the information they may require. The site was very well looked after and it was a pleasure to arrive as we just knew that we would enjoy ourselves. We generally use our on board facilities so didn't use the showers etc....I must admit that it amuses us that caravanners use the site facilities when, almost all, caravans have showers and hot water on board...unless it is to be able to sell the caravan as 'little use' !! The staff were very helpful and had a newspaper collection service for caravanners....well worth the small charge. I woud certainly recommend this site as there is plenty to do in the area.

Could be improved

We had a 'hard standing' pitch. More like solid concrete. Not too sure what had been used but a jack hammer should be packed to get awning pins into the very hard surface. The spacing between many caravans was quite tight and many pitches looked a bit scruffy between the grass and hard standing areas. Only one toilet block meant that there was quite a struggle at times to accommodate the number of people Overall though, handy for the Southern Lake District areas but a long way from good food shops.

Super site and very helpful wardens

We arrived late at night (as we had driven after work from the opposite Coast. 170 miles) The warden had agreed a strategy for our convenience. He came out to greet us despite the lateness and made us welcome together with a key for the clean, well appointed facilities. This treatment was way beyond the call of duty. The site is delightful. We regretted that could not stay longer as we were there for the Coast to Coast bike ride fundraising for Marie Curie and had to leave very early the next morning. We will certainly be back to have the full experience. Grange-over- sands looked very promising as an interesting place for a longer visit.

LOVED IT

We have just returned from a stay here and absolutely loved. in fact we have booked to return later in the year. excellent clean and warm shower block with plenty of showers/ cubicles etc. and plenty of hot water. the site was full but we never had to queue. I have to say that we were quite nervous having read previous comments re the access but our worries were unfounded. the incline is brief and not particularly steep and the main lane has many "passing points", we never experienced a problem. the wardens were friendly and the site was very well maintained. It was peaceful and quiet despite being busy, we didn't hear any road noise which is the pay off for the site being away from the main road.. pitch sizes varied but all were ample. my only comment (not particularly just for this site) is the number of motorhomes and caravans without awnings that use the white awning pitches restricting availability for awning users, I question the fairness of this as awnings cannot be erected on the blue non awning pitches? although when we arrived there were several pitches empty but only 2 awning ones available due to the aforementioned problem!
