Lovely Site

Spent a weekend at this site and will be back. The site was quite busy despite the weather but it was still quiet and felt as if we had a lot of space. The staff were lovely, very welcoming and shared their local knowledge. The Wensleydale Railway runs along the bottom of the site, but at this time of year trains only go at weekends and they are only diesel so you don't really notice them. It is a 20 minute walk into Leyburn which has quite a few independent shops, some lovely tea rooms and a chocolate factory. If you enjoy walking there are lots of options and you are within easy driving distance of both Richmond and Hawes. The facilities are fine, a bit dated but are perfectly usable (must be the slowest hand dryer in the world in the ladies bathroom). When we were there, there were not many families and there didn't seem to be any onsite facilities for children. If you want a quiet few days away then this is an ideal site.

October Wedding in the Dales

We booked Lower Wensleydale as we were invited to a wedding in Middleham and as travelling up from the South West thought we would make a holiday of our visit. I loved the site, trees, wildlife, peace and the different areas gave it an unusually private appearance. My wife felt the place a bit dark and dingy but perhaps that was because we had a pitch under the trees and didn’t see too much sun. Had a great 5 days visiting Leyburn, Aysgarth, Hawes, Middleham and Masham. Saw the Gallops and race horses in Middleham, waterfalls, great walks, Wensleydale cheese factory visit and a Theakstons Brewery visit. Didn’t like the walk to Leyburn as it’s a busy A road with narrow pavements but plenty of parking in town and lots of nice pubs. Facilities a bit dated but clean as a new pin, didn’t queue at all and plenty of hot water. No dog walk but found my dog enjoyed the walk up the hill behind the site, however it would be good to have a dog walk included within the site. Pitches are all shapes and sizes, we arrived Friday afternoon and it was quite busy & choice limited if you wanted an awning up. It was very dark over our stay and there isn’t much lighting around the place, even the hook up towers don’t have lights nor the service areas, problem my only tiny complaint, walking to the showers in the dark was a “challenge”. Still a great site, so quiet and peaceful and well maintained by the guys on duty. Leaf blowing for hours on end in the cold, rather them than me! Hope to return one day!

Another lovely stay.

Returned yesterday after another few days at Lower Wensleydale. We now have been here twice in about 2 months. As the nights draw in and the trees shed their leaves the site takes on a new feel. The site still has a warm feel, the staff are lovely, there’s peace and quiet and nature everywhere. The area is rapidly becoming our favourite spot - great walks, great food and drink and amazing scenery. We think the site is perfect, ok we still want to visit other places - but this has now become our go to quick and easy site. I can’t see why anyone would want more!

Great site

I’d always avoided booking this site when visiting friends nearby as the satellite view showed it surrounded by static caravans. In fact you wouldn’t know they were there due to the trees and fences. Competitive pricing compared to other local sites. Okay, so the facilities are quite dated but it all works, is clean, the water is hot and there was no queue. Plus it was warm when the weather was chilly outside. Site is on several levels so we went to the upper level surrounded by trees. The friendly peacock was fascinated by our campervan. I didn’t hear him doing the usual noisy screech either! There is some road noise but nothing terrible and it does quieten down at night. Didn’t see or hear any trains either. Twenty minute walk into Leyburn if you go at a good pace where you will find a small Co-Op and various takeaways. The walk is along the main road though so not particularly pleasant but there is an alternative over the fields if you prefer. No on site dog walk but there is no traffic on the lane outside. Plenty of walking routes within a few miles of course. Would be happy to come back here on our next trip to Wensleydale.

Continues as a great site and location

Love this site. The pitches are a good size and very varied in position. The facilities are good and always clean. May be some updating will be required soon but nothing wrong with them. Easy to feel spoilt with brand new facilities and find fault where there is none. The location is brilliant for walking into Leyburn and other places such as Spennithorne or Middleham. Good pubs in Spennithorne Leyburn and Middleham. Opening times of the pheasant next to the site are a bit of a mystery. The waterfall across the road literally, in Harmby, is a hidden gem Staff are brilliant and helpful. Second visit and we will be back again.

Hidden Gem

First time at this site and it won't be the last. Not a site that you will find unless you follow the instructions and all the better for being just that little bit further away from the road. Lovely warm welcome and a reasonable choice of pitches. Yes, some of the facilities are in need of some updating, but I've stayed at club sites with worse and non-club sites with a lot worse. There was always lots of hot water and just enough of everything that I never had to wait. Didn't use the local pub as it didn't open until 1900 so walked up to Leyburn and had a fantastic meal. Middleham Castle in well worth a visit and you could spend a worse half hour than going to the waterfall at Harmby, although we were spoilt by having been there just after the 1st storm of the year and there being plenty of water. On the down side, for those of whom it matters to there isn't much for children, nor anything within striking distance. We'll be back.

Lovely site in a great location

This was our first visit to the Lower Wensleydale site and it will be the first of many. The staff are welcoming and very helpful, and work hard to keep the site shipshape. There is an abundance of wildlife including ducks, rabbits and a resident peacock. There are plenty of beautiful walks on the doorstep, with Leyburn and Middleham close by. The facilities may be a little dated but they are spotless with good water pressure and the showers are nice and hot. We look forward to visiting again soon.

A bit of a shambles

I must start this review by saying that the price was excellent compared to other sites in the area. The lady warden who checked me in was very nice and she helped me throughout my stay, she had a bit of a run in with the folk in front of me, but she was great with me. This site needs a major revamp. The toilet block is very, very dated and the ongoing problems with a 'pump' for waste is unacceptable. The grassed areas are full of weeds and the rabbits are running riot with what remains. The resident ducks and peacock are lovely, however. There is absolutely no facilities for dogs, on or off site unless you want to drive up to Leyburn or go walking in the nearby footpaths. The nearby Waterfall Walk is not a dog walk. What really pushed me to write this review is that when leaving, I stopped near the toilet block to adjust my mirrors and I was pounced on by a staff member (not in uniform) who had just arrived on site, and again by a warden on duty, to ask if I was moving on. I wasn't blocking anyone, as the MVWP is already a building site which you can't use. The Club need to get a grip and give these folk some guidance. You get the feeling there already cheesed off having to work there!

Brilliant Site

We stayed here for 7 nights and wished we could stay for longer. It is a beautiful site situated within walking distance of Leyburn. It is peaceful and clean but the facilities desperately need updating. The Elsan point nearest to our caravan wasn’t in operation which meant a longer walk to empty it and the laundry and washing up facilities weren’t operating either until later on in the week. However this did not spoil our stay and we would definitely stay there again. Ducks came to visit us and we were able to feed them. The staff were very helpful.

Lovely little site!

We have just returned from this site today. I must say that on arrival the entrance is a little strange at first. We booked in and were given a list of pitches to choose from. We drove around and settled on the one we liked facing the lovely stone structure built into the site. So the site... we were greeted while setting up by the very friendly resident peacock, the pitch was spacious although my power lead only just reached the box from the connector. The site is quiet, the other users were friendly and we found it to be very peaceful. The toilets were always clean. There was an issue with the drains but this didn’t affect us. We used the site as a base for the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside - and it’s in a perfect. We wanted to leave late but after talking to the staff it was obvious that with the road in and out they didn’t want caravans meeting on the lane. This meant it wasn’t an option. However a break down of our car meant we had to risk the road later and we managed without a collision :-) The site in our opinion was perfect and we will DEFINITELY BE GOING BACK!
