We love the marmite site!

We stayed here for 2 nights on the return leg of our recent epic journey north from the Midlands to Orkney staying at caravan club sites along the way. This was a lovely quiet and peaceful site to stay at in an excellent location with great facilities. Not sure why some people don't like it to be honest! Pitches were great as you would expect and wardens friendly. We had booked one without an awning and was plenty spacious. Yes there are trees which I would expect given the location! The facilities are a bit 70s but immaculately clean and well maintained. Staff were efficient and friendly. Nice short walk to local pub and a steam train line nearby. Couldn't recommend it more! Will be returning.

Glad we didn't stay longer

Just 2 nights was plenty. Far too many trees, too near to the pitches. Our pitch was very small, our awning wouldn't fit, very uneven.

We loved the "Marmite" site

Apparently this site is called the Marmite site, you love it or hate it. Yes it is a little dated but the staff are excellent and the place is very clean. About 15-20mins walk into Leyburn, whats not to like? We will be visiting again.

Loved this site.

Just returned from our first stay here and we will be returning soon. Peace and quiet on this small but very well laid out site. The staff were amazing and very helpful - a credit to the club. Didn't use the facilities as we use our own in the van so can't comment on those. Andy

Return visit

This was our second visit to site, the last being 3 years ago. The great weather helps but we think this is a great site if it's peace and quiet you are after (apart from the occasional passing train that is!!) We enjoy walking and are spoilt for choice here with easy and well marked routes from the site. Much has been said about the facilities, can't argue with them. Bit tired but always spotless thanks to the wardens, who were all friendly and efficient. The site is on our list for a future visit.

A charming site

This is a completely different type of club site but still very good never the less. The wardens are extremely friendly and helpful. The reception and toilet, laundry, dishwashing is all one block. The showers are dated but extremely clean and lots of pressure and hot water. I think as it’s a manged site the club can’t do much in terms of updates? It is all hardstanding but that means your caravan or motor home will be on hardstanding while your car may be on grass on a few pitches. It is on three levels as you drive around the one way system, the first part of lower level is exactly that, all level and probably suits motor homes because of that, indeed it was mainly all motor homes on one night. After that the site roads twists and turn and heads uphill to the ‘balcony’ which is very popular and level and then past the reception/shower again to the upper level with. Some pitching area are rows, some small and more private two or three pitching areas. Here a blue non awning pitch is exactly that, space for a caravan or MH on the hardstanding. A few of the pitches are quite inclined front to back and more suitable for caravans. But it is a lovely leafy site but you will still get plenty of sunshine. We were there on the hottest days in June and there were plenty people sunbathing. No playarea for children but lots to do in the area for children. Lots to do in the surrounding area and if sitting outside a pub on a hot day drinking beer is your idea of heaven then every village has one. The approach road is single lane so arrive before 12 here and you can sort out who reverses first. A great time and will certainly return.

Peaceful site but the facilities are tired , good value for money though

We have been before so we knew what to expect , I was surprised that the site had not had an upgrade since our last visit a couple of years ago, the facilities are not the normal high standard we have come to expect from the club. Unfortunately when we were there two of the male showers were out of action leaving only two male showers for the whole site. The toilet block is dated as a whole is in need of enlarging and a face lift. The staff made a very good job of cleaning the facilities. Having said that the price for the pitch is very good so perhaps i am being a little unreasonable with my comment. The location is perfect for a peaceful break , just a twenty minute walk into town where there are plenty of nice pubs and restaurants. ( we found the best to be the Bolton Arms in the market place ) . The Leyburn food festival was one when we were there, this is well worth a visit. The site staff were very friendly and helpful. We found the location perfect for cycling, we found plenty of small roads to bike around. Unfortunately the people on the pitch opposite to us who had a large dog they did not seam to think that the rule "keep dogs on a lead" applied to them, they let it roam around the site. I was going to report them to the site staff but fortunately the next morning they left . Its a pity when some dog owners think the rules don't apply to them. We will keep an eye on the site and be back when its had a face lift.

Great for a pair of golden oldies.

So peaceful and interesting variety of bird life. Nice little glades to pitch in and some good level hard standings. Leyburn a good local country town satisfying most needs. Major bonus on site - not too many dogs - quite a change from certain sites where there appear to be more dogs than persons.

Peacock!

Spent one night here. On arrival, we found a nice spot on this quirky site, however it did mean a walk to the one toilet block ... ok, got a few more steps on my Fitbit! Thought the toilet block itself, although clean, was a bit tired but it still did the job. Not a good area for dog walking if you ant your dog off lead. Even asked locals where to go and the answer was basically, nowhere as everywhere we found ‘keep dogs on lead’ signs at every stile. For one night it was ok but doubt I’d want to have been there longer 😔

Great place to relax

Spent three nights on this site after visiting the national rally. Delightful setting and very peaceful with lots of wildlife. Plenty of walks from site and no shortage of places to eat in nearby Leyburn. The wardens were very pleasant and helpful without being over powering. Really enjoyed our stay slept well and very relaxed before returning home.
