We enjoyed our stay

We enjoyed our stay but there were a couple of issues with the site. The facilities were clean but really dated and old. The hairdryers were hopeless and one of them had a split pipe so was really useless. You really need a plug socket so that we can use our own hairdryer. My other issue was that the site has a confusing layout and I actually got lost trying to find my way back to our van in darkness, the roads all look the same from the reception area and the site is very poorly lit. Could do with some signage of some kind or just light markers to show where the roads are. Very friendly and helpful staff and the site is quiet, peaceful and in a lovely place.

Poor electric supply

I love where this site is and have been several times to do some walking and relaxing in the area. However, be careful which pitch you choose as on my third visit I found out about the problems with the electricity supply on a number of pitches. It spoilt what is normally a great break at a great site. If those problems still exist the Club should ensure people are made aware in the site's details. The staff are very nice but a long explanation of why the Club won't invest and improve the supply isn't really sufficient.

Lovely picturesque site

Lovely site sat in a quarry. We visited here in April and was took back by the beauty of it. We are returning late July again. The facilities are good although quite dated shower blocks not as up to standard as we are used to with the caravan club but very clean and tidy. All the pitches are hard standing and they are nice because theres little areas to pitch your caravan on different levels. Brilliant for walks and dogs too.

Excellent if you want quiet but not the best all round we've been to

The main thing I can say is that this site is very quiet and peaceful with the only real background noise the birds. If you don't mind the peacock as an alarm call this it is perfect for getting away from road noise and back to nature. The railway at the bottom of the site is active very infrequently so is not a nuisance. The approach to the site is a single track road which is wider than it looks and if you take it slow there should be no problem getting even large vans into the site. However, the road around the site can be a bit narrow in places and care must be taken went turning corners. The pitches themselves are also pretty shorter. We have a 7.4m van and booked a pitch without and awning and out hitch was stuck out into the road. My advice is that if you have anything other than a 2-berth or a small motorhome then you will probably need to book a pitch with an awning to make sure you have enough space -- especially during busy times when there aren't many pitches to choose from. Toilets and showers are just a single block which can mean you have a bit of walk depending on where your pitch is. They are adequately furnished although the shower cubicles do not a have a bench inside and feel a bit cramped. They also do not have a dropped shower basin like some other sites we've stayed at so any water or dirt outside the shower basin cannot be washed away into the shower drain meaning you end up with a horrible collection of dirt outside the shower which you have to avoid stepping in while getting dressed standing up in a tight space which is not nice. This is the main factor which would make me not return to this site unfortunately but you can decide if you care or not. It is nicely placed for local amenities but the Pheasant Inn does not serve food so there is not local pub to walk to in that regard. You might want to try the Bolton Arms in Leyburn which was pricey for the standard of food. About half an hour from the Wensleydale creamery which is a good half day out and has an excellent restaurant. Co-op in Leyburn served as our local shop for supplies and there is also a house and home shop in the town which stocks some caravan supplies.

Best site by far!

Well what a welcome, the wardens Carl & Julie couldn’t have given us a more friendly welcome. The site is a ‘little gem’ with cozy corners to pitch if you want or a small more open pitches if you prefer. The toilet block is a little dated but extremely clean, the site is very well maintained. The wardens were always around with friendly chatter and were always happy to go that extra mile with any questions/queries. Can’t wait to go back.

Great site at the entrance to the dales close to many of the major tourist attractions

Easy to find, just off main A road but road noise not noticable. Very quiet site particularly in evenings, note site lighting is quite minimal but this is a good thing in my opinion. Wardens all friendly and worked hard to keep site spotless. Toilet block very clean but needs updating as it looks 'tired'. Retired couple so cannot comment for suitability for families, overall a lovely site. Pleasant walk (40mins) to the town of Leyburn across fields (20min along main road) which has everything you need with 2 general stores (small supermarket size) and selection of pubs/restaurants

Charming, peaceful, but needs upgrading.

We stayed here over the Easter weekend in glorious weather. The wardens were very friendly and did a superb job. The site was full yet it didn’t feel crowded. I couldn’t rate it for families as we are a retired couple, but there didn’t seem to be many young children there. My only complaint is the age of the shower/toilet block. We had stayed for 3 nights at York, Rowntree Park site before going to Leyburn and my what a difference. York’s amenity block was modern and sleek, but when we got to Leyburn, it was like stepping back into the 1970s. There were horrible kerbings around the shower tray, which meant that you couldn’t mop the shower out after use. The hairdryer was ancient and never warmed up properly and the whole block was very tired and dated. Come on Club, get some money spent up here. It’s a lovely site in a lovely location and deserves better for its members.

La La Leyburn

Enjoyed our two nights here, despite its quarry origins it is an extremely pleasant location with a lovely peacock part of the fixtures & fittings! Easy walk into Leyburn via the road or the 'back way' enjoying the scenery without the traffic. Plenty of amenities in Leyburn and the site couldn't be easier to find, with access to the main road simple providing you don't meet anything coming the opposite way!

Just the ticket

Just returned and as good if not better than before, credit to the wardens. Beautiful walks direct from site, this time we walked through Spenithorne to Coverbidge and then up Coverdale to Middleham via Hulla Bridge, fabulous! Afternoon tea and scones in the Dante Pub, a real proper old English pub. Short walk to restaurant 13 in Leyburn in the evening for a fabulous meal.Fabulous wildlife on site, Gerald the Peacock still struts his majestic stuff after all these years. Love it!

Autumn short stay

Had just two nights at this site in November. Good quiet site with much wildlife in and around the site. Did struggle to find a flat level pitch for a motorhome even if most pitches were vacant so had a good choice of spots.Think the pitches generally need work on them. We did a good walk into Leyburn via the top road (see info point for details, well done for providing this). Was lucky it was a Friday and the cattle auction was in full swing that made a different morning for us and we avoided going home with a cow ….In the town centre we bought some well priced fresh fruit & veg from a market stall and even better had a hot pork bap so nice with apple sauce and stuffing. Will use this site again.
