Stunning site

This was a lovely site in a stunning area. We had a wonderful welcome from Ian, Christine and the 2 assistant wardens (sorry can't remember their names) they made us feel like part of a family. The site was immaculate and unlike a lot of sites it didn't feel like a car park, with lots of nooks and crannies to park the caravans in. Gerald the peacock is very friendly and not put off by our very old golden retriever. A previous reviwer said their was nothing for the children to do on site, well thats true but that is one of the things that makes the site special and after all why come here if you can't find enjoyment in the surroundings and educate the children on the ways of the Yorkshire countryside! The Pheasant Inn on the main road as you turn into the track leading to the site, is very welcoming and dog friendly. A traditional old pub no food but a great Yorkshire welcome. Leyburn is so pretty with lots of dog friendly cafes and pubs. Harmby falls was stunning due to the early rain we had had. Wesnsleydale Creameries is a short car ride away while in Leyburn and only a short walk from the site is a chocolate factory and pottery making special teapots. A walk from the site up the hill and you will see the quarry which is a haven for wild life and filled with water, continue along the road across the fields and you will arrive in Leyburn where you have a rest in one of the dog friendly pubs etc. Unfortunately our stay was cut short due to the closure of the site due to Covid-19, but the team made it feel as though they were very disappointed for as well as them. A big clap of thank you because they have to remain there maintaining the site in case they get the all clear to reopen. I hadn't realised that the staff at the site have to pay out of their own money for the sweets ice creams etc at the site shop. Christine and Ian are initially going to be out of pocket due to the closure if the shop doesn't reopen. So next time you are on site buy something and support the site staff. Thank you the magnums on our way home were really welcoming. We certainly will be back. Thank you again.

Charming Site

Had a lovely three night stay at the end of October greeted by a warm welcome from the wardens. We had a nice walk into Leyburn which has some fab shops & eateries. As others have mentioned the facilities are a little dated but that said they where very clean & warm so no complaints from us. We had a couple of visits from the resident peacock which our little boy loved. All in all we had a great stay here and will be going back.

Lovely site

This is an unusual and charming site in an old quarry, we stayed for the August Bank Holiday when the site was full although it's so peaceful we wouldn't have known had the wardens not told us. Very friendly wardens who maintain the site beautifully and were often visible around the site and were always approachable. The facilities are a bit dated but immaculate and the showers are lovely and hot. The location is great if you want a peaceful spot that's within easy reach of all the attractions of the Yorkshire Dales. Nice walking from the site and a dog-friendly old-fashioned pub a short stroll away - no food but that's just fine when everywhere else is bustling and busy. We'll be returning for a longer stay next year!

Third stop of our September tour 18th and 19th September

This was the third stop of our tour this year to a site we hadnt visited before but always wanted to. We travelled from Hebden bridge and due to a road closure got a bit lost (not a reflection on either site just my pigheadedness not to buy a satnav!) I called the site to say we would be arriving nearer 4.30 than the 12 to 2 we had booked and was told no problem and when we arrived had a lovely greeting you can relax now youre here!! Knew it was us and we werent the only ones coming on! We loved this site yes the facilities are dated but they were clean and we had good hot showers! The wildlife on site was amazing we put out a small feeder and have a lovely video of Gerald who could reach it!! We were also mobbed by the ducks! We walked into Leybourn lovely shops. Quirkly pitches which we like as opposed to rows. One to go back to for us

Great

The site is lovely, the wardens are really approachable, friendly and polite, and even Gerald (the peacock) is fairly pleasant The only reason for not giving full marks is there isn’t anything for the kids to do. There are a couple of places that would be good for a small play area.. this would make the site 100% family friendly. Of course if you want just a quiet relaxing space - this is for you.

Lovely quaint site

Lovely quaint site and ideally located in the Dale's. This is a nice site and weve have been twice now stayed on different parts. Its worth knowing its built in an old quarry so most pitches are quote uneven and would require revellers as ours did. The facility's are clean but in desperate need of an upgrade and there is also only one block on the site. But overall it's a lovely site.

Brilliant site stayed 3 nights - 7-10 July 2019

This site is one of our favourites. I think it’s Sue or Julie that booked us in and welcomed us. With a big smile and full of fun. Great couple. I can tell you love what you do. Very thorough and attentive on site. I see some people mentioned the toilets n showers are out dated. Maybe so but they are kept clean and the showers hot. The site is kept beautifully while still staying wild with its resident wildlife. The birds singing sounds louder out here. There really is nothing better if you like a secluded site with decent size pitches. If you are a motorhome finding a even ground is not easy but the staff do try to keep the gravel even. Just a 10 minute or so walk to the town where you can pick up your groceries for your own bbq or plenty of pubs to choose from. It’s not a child type of site as such. As it suits couples friends etc dog friendly but please keep them on a leash. Some ppl still don’t. :( It’s a shame the first couple were not there for our last night as we decided to come back for another night. the phone call with the guy there was a bit abrupt. When I asked if I could reserve again. And I didn’t have my card yet as it hadn’t arrived. But it was a phone booking. Love this site and will always come back. I think I will adopt the peacock. So friendly. :)

Peaceful

Stayed here last Sept - and very happy to be back again. Peaceful & quiet site - great for dogs as its easy to connect to footpaths from the site using an OS map. Its quirky - set in an old quarry. Entertaining wildlife with peacock; pea-hens; ducks and ducklings, rabbits. Bats can be seen just outside the site near the railway. Facilities clean, wardens very friendly. Walking is my passion and the surrounding area is rich in good paths for exploring and village tea shops.

A perfect stay

We stayed on this site at the beginning of June as we started our trip around Yorkshire. As you drive down to the site you soon realise this is the perfect spot to relax and watch the wildlife. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the facilities are excellent and beautifully clean. There was no problem with the electricity supply. Thank you to Christine, Ian, Julie and Carl.

Small but beautifully formed.

Love this site with its birds and almost tame peacock. Stunning plants around too - check out the Hostas! Never seen such huge, perfect plants. Great site for adults but no facilities for children which is great for us, hence a 3 rating) Easy walk for dogs off site for morning and evening and plenty of longer walks around for the day. Only a couple of miles into Leyburn which has good shopping and a variety of pubs and take-aways. Hawes (17 miles away) always worth a visit too plus all the favourites, Aysgarth, Hardraw etc. Only complaint about this site is the toilet/shower block. Always spotlessly clean but so dated and old now hence another 3 rating. Staff are some of the most helpful and friendly of all the sites we have visited. Going back again next week.
