Only stayed two nights on this site, curtailed due to a pressing grandsons graduation ceremony in Truro. The site is on various levels, some amid trees and some in the open. This seems to be a sheltered site. Site well maintained as usual and a big smiley welcome on arrival from the wardens. The closest 'supermarket' is Stans, a Nisa store in St Martins on the Ellesmere road and had everything you could want in food, drink and hardware...a real gem. The main reason for our visit was Chirk Castle and really well worth a visit and especially the gardens that are superbly maintained by just 3 full time gardeners and about 10 volunteers. The castle is also well worth a visit too.

This was our first visit to LMP and we loved it, so let's get the bad bit out of the way first! They tell you on the booking form that you may experience noise from the nearby factories, but what they don't make clear is that it seems to be 24/7! A background thrumming which you just can't seem to escape from. Irritating if you need to sleep with the windows open, but what must it be like for folk living in the area and having to put up with it permanently? OK, enough with the complaints .... everything else about the site is great. The much criticised approach road has been resurfaced. There's a good choice of grass or HS pitches, some modern and wide, others rather narrow but what they lack in width they make up for in length. We were on one of these, pitch 70, down near the rally field and in a good position for whatever evening sun Wales can offer. OK, the toilet/shower block is rather dated but perfectly adequate and there was no problem with water pressure when I used the showers. The site is within easy walking distance of Chirk Castle (uphill though!) and the canal towpath down by Chick Tunnel and aqueduct. A longer walk ( about an hour and a half each way) will take you to the magnificent aqueduct at Pontcysllte. There are a number of eateries down in Chirk village but as we were only here for 4 nights we didn't get to use any of them, but the village is an easy 10 minute walk. All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at LMP. There's plenty to do in the area - we needed more time really; still what a good excuse for a return visit!
(Ought to make it clear the 3 rating for family friendliness might cause a few raised eyebrows, but then we were there as a couple, not a family!)
