Excellent Site

We have just stayed at this site for a week and i can't fault it, It is a great base to explore North Wales. It is on the doorstep to Chirk Castle, you can walk along the canal or cycle it has some great pubs local that do great food, The site is peaceful lots of wildlife to see,the facilities are well kept a bit dated but clean, definitely a great site to visit

Lovely site

Visited end of July. Great location. We have young children (4 and 6) who like to cycle so I'm always trying to find sites we can cycle directly from, off road, without having to take the bike rack and drive somewhere first. This site was great as it was only a short stretch of wide, straight country lane and we were on the canal. Great ride to Llangollen - about 8 miles each way. Was also a nice walk around Chirk Castle straight from the site. We pitched in the wooded area and only noticed factory noise occasionally it wasn't intrusive at all but we were out walking and cycling a lot which is perhaps why. Children's play area was out of action which was disappointing in the school holidays and it didn't sound like it would be fixed anytime soon but our children were happy anyway. Would definitely return.

Lovely site but be careful where you pitch

We stayed here for 8 nights. It is a lovely site, well kept. Wardens take good care of all aspects, but like most people have noted the showers/toilet block are dated and need upgrading. Yet don't let this stop you visiting its only old-fashioned not in anyway neglected, again staff always had it immaculate. The one word of warning is the wooded areas on site are at the top of hill and you will hear the hum from the nearby chocolate factory. On second day we requested to move (we were not alone in this) and once down in main area it was wonderful. Others didn't seem put off at all so presume its a personal choice. Its a lovely area with walks around the outer grounds of Chirk Castle (without charge), the canal walk etc. Dog walk area is very small, hilly and fencing not great, but the rallye field is a great alternative for a big active dog. Don't be put off by negatives, its well worth a visit.

One of the Best - But...

We have stayed here before and think it is one of the best sites that the CC have position wise. It is ideal for visiting the North Wales area with Wrexham, Oswestry and Llangollen all within easy reach. We particularly like Llangollen for the steam railway. However, we have to say that although the facilities on site are excellent and the toilets are kept in a really clean state, they are in serious need of upgrading. They haven't been touched since we first started coming to this area years ago and it shows. And there really is no need in this day and age for anyone to have to put up with the very poor TV reception on site. We missed half the Olympics action with the stop/start reception service. This really needs to be addressed on such a popular site. Despite this though, we will always return to this wonderful site as in all other respects it is ideal.

Wales Mega Stayover

We decided we wanted to come to Wales for an event and found this site. After booking I looked at some of the reviews and was thinking I may have done the wrong thing..... WRONG.... we arrived and were greeted like old friends, the staff could not have been more helpful. We were given a choose of pitch and advised the best ones to look at. After a drive round we choose one and soon had the caravan in place and set up. The site is in a lovely setting and we enjoyed our stay. The washing machine is fine !!! A boiler is still out of action so only one shower block is working, but hay we use our van to the full extent, wheres the problem in that. The site is spotless, the wardens are great and we would most certainly come back again.

One of the nicest sites we have stayed on

I honestly mean it when I say this is probably one of the nicest caravan club sites we have stayed on. There is not much for children on the site - as the castle play area is taped off. We felt that it is more of an adult type of site because of its location. The dog walk is adequate and we were allowed to take the dog into the rally field for exercise as well. We walked both ways up and down the canal and visited Llangollen I was delighted to see Thomas the Tank Engine busy working on the Steam Railway. The site was clean and very tidy the facilities were spotless and the wardens were very friendly - we will be back.

A gem

This is a lovely site, well maintained, well laid out and well run by helpful and friendly staff. The site is very peaceful. I've read reviews about the noisy nearby factory -really you would have to be very fussy and over the top to let this even be a slight issue. Yes, there is a factory, a small distance away, which you can not see from the site. Its a cadbury factory, and the 'pollution' from it is just steam venting and comes nowhere near the site - it simply disperses in the air as it leave the vents! Some people are way to dramatic. The noise is like a hairdryer from a mile away IE its barley noticeable. The site itself is very pretty, pleanty of walk on site through woods, walks nearby along the canal / aqueduct and through the tunnel. Chirk castle is fab and is just a walk away. Would 100% return.

nice site but caravan mentality heavy!!

First time on this site and very impressed!! I have great hearing but never heard the 'nearby factory' or smelt any pollution. Wardens very helpful and welcoming, happy to chat and give advice for cycling and places to visit. We cycled to Llangollen over the aquaduct, glorious!! The nearby station gives access to Chester and Shrewsbury. Will return as we didn't have time to do the castle or cycle to Ellesmere. My only comment- i do think that one or two caravanners should lighten up and live a little!!

sap

Its a shame that the CC do not tell you the factory noise is 24/7. (I should have read all the site reviews). The site is nice and kept clean. My main complaint is that the only couple of pitches available where under trees. We came home last weekend and will be spending this weekend removing sap from the car, caravan and awning. Manufactures say not to pitch under trees so why do the CC put hard standings under them. Would not book to go there again in case it happened again
