We visited here for the new year celebrations after having a good time last new year. It's a nice woodland site with decent sized pitches. Good dog walk on the site and some excellent walks from the site (Chirk Castle, along the canal etc). The site is well kept, clean and tidy with plenty of hot water in the toilet/shower block. I did notice that the children's park had been removed so probably not an ideal place for children. Chirk itself has all the amenities and a couple of decent pubs in the town centre. I can recommend the Bridge Inn which is a 10-15 minute walk from the site along the canal towpath. Friendly landlady and friendly locals and they serve food.
The location is great, being right next to Chirk Castle. The village of Chirk is exceptional. It's got everything and they're all of a good quality. I agree with other reviewers that the reception facilities are poor for an all year round site. No shop worth talking about and you have to go into the village for your newspapers. Also, being surrounded by trees, the TV reception is intermittent and not as good as the staff said it would be. Small points, but they make it an overall 4, not a 5.
We arrived on Friday night around 7.30pm.
We cooked tea then went to wash up. The water was luke warm not hot enough to wash greasy dishes. We then went to get showered and the water temperature was the same.
When we went to get showered in the morning it was ice cold. I informed the warden but we had no hot water till the afternoon.
We rely on facilities during the Winter and that's why we stay on a site. We had drained down our Motorhome to prevent burst pipes so it was really inconvenient.
I know these things happen, but if I stayed in a hotel and had no hot water our money would be refunded!
Great site for a peaceful break good for dogs and humans alike plenty of walks national trust within easy walking distance nice village close by and canal with viaduct and pubs/ eateries
We have just returned after a lovely peaceful 8 night break. We were a little concerned about the toilet block after reading reviews about how outdated they were but we needn’t have worried. Yes they are due for refurb but they were spotless day and night.
There are some wonderful walks from the sight and plenty to do and see within a few miles.
My only gripe and it’s not the wardens fault at all as they can’t watch everyone. A caravan arrived on Friday afternoon and he put small orange cones all along the pitch next to us to save the pitch for his friends. We always travel with friends and would have loved to have saved a pitch for them but etiquette to fellow caravaners and motorhomers wouldn’t allow this. It was very busy on Friday and many an outfit drove up to the pitch only to see the cones and drive past. Very disappointing behaviour. Hope this isn’t going to be the norm !!!
Excellent wooded site with lots of walks right from the gates. Good dog walking on and off site. Local shops and pubs in Chirk, just down the road. Unfortuably the site reception looks slum and dull as nothing on sale displays in the reception. This site opens all round year so the maps and guide books should be provided as the site leaflet stated. As I stayed for five nights, I am disappointed with no maps or guide books. I am a keen walker all round year!
Just returned from a 7 night stay, always enjoy staying here, yes, the site needs updating but it is still a great caravan park. Members must do their bit to keep the facilities clean, twice during our stay one of the shower trays in the ladies block had mud and leaves in it. Can't blame the young ones, there were none there during our stay!
we have just returned from another very pleasant stay, would highly recomend the site, whats not to like.everything is close by, Wrexham, chirk castle etc, plenty of shops in the town, and the club wardens are so friendly, plus the lovely aroma of chocolate on a good day, will be off there again soon.
Just back from a few days end of season. We love this site. Yes, its getting a little tired, but it still ticks all the boxes.
Chirk Castle is next door. So easy to get to and a wonderful place. Also Erddig and Powis Castle not too far away. Plenty of good places to eat as long as you don't require a Michelin star! The Poachers and The Bridge within easy driving distance, or a walk into Chirk itself to see what's on offer there.
The walk from site over the aqueduct is a must if you are able. The views are fantastic and its a lovely ramble down along the river.
Rabbits galore on site, so beware of the dreaded rabbit holes, which could easily break your ankle! A torch is essential if visiting the facilities at night.
As always, lovely, friendly wardens. As I already said. We love this site.
This is a lovely site in a great location. Shrewsbury, Chester and Llangollen all a reasonable car drive away, as is the wonderful waterfall, Pystill Rhaeadr. Walking from the site is fabulous, up the beautiful Ceiriog Valley. The staff were so friendly and helpful.
