Never disappointed

We stayed here for a long weekend , F- Sumatra the end in January ‘18. It’s the theft time we stayed here and we are never disappointed. Easy to find and easy access with friendly wardens and clean facilities. The site is well maintained with good WiFi and TV signal. Good choice of pitches. It’s great for walking with plenty to see. Chirk has a good butchers , SPAR, choice of pubs and a great Indian :-) The canal is close for an easy walk. Don’t hesitate , it’s a great site.

Dog Walk

Whilst we enjoy staying on this site and have been here 5 times, we were more than a little disappointed with the "dog walk." The fence at the entrance has fallen down and the fence onto the grassed area has been flattened and looks like it has been for a long time. It is pointless having a designated dog walk if the dogs cannot be let off the lead. A safe and secure area where the dogs could let off steam would ensure our return. Without that we may be looking elsewhere.

Winter Break

Had a great couple of days here. Very convenient for the lowland walks in the area, particularly along the canal over the magnificent Pontcysllte Aquaduct to Ruabon, where refreshments of a alcoholic type can be had at the Bridge End Inn (previous national CAMRA pub of the year). Very convenient rail station nearby takes you back to Chirk. No doubt gets busier during the summer, but out of season is perfect. Could do with more standing taps on the site. We had to walk up a flight of steps to get to fill our aquaroll; it's quite awkward to get the roll back down the steps too. I can imagine those with less mobility would struggle. Otherwise highly recommended.

Excellent winter site

Stayed here in early January. Very cold but pitches and facilities were excellent. Very friendly and helpful Wardens had just arrived themselves. Plenty of shopping, out of the cold, just a few miles away and great walks directly from the site gates.

Second Visit

We visited here for the new year celebrations after having a good time last new year. It's a nice woodland site with decent sized pitches. Good dog walk on the site and some excellent walks from the site (Chirk Castle, along the canal etc). The site is well kept, clean and tidy with plenty of hot water in the toilet/shower block. I did notice that the children's park had been removed so probably not an ideal place for children. Chirk itself has all the amenities and a couple of decent pubs in the town centre. I can recommend the Bridge Inn which is a 10-15 minute walk from the site along the canal towpath. Friendly landlady and friendly locals and they serve food.

I love Chirk and the site location is great. Almost a 5, but not quite.

The location is great, being right next to Chirk Castle. The village of Chirk is exceptional. It's got everything and they're all of a good quality. I agree with other reviewers that the reception facilities are poor for an all year round site. No shop worth talking about and you have to go into the village for your newspapers. Also, being surrounded by trees, the TV reception is intermittent and not as good as the staff said it would be. Small points, but they make it an overall 4, not a 5.

No hot water!!

We arrived on Friday night around 7.30pm. We cooked tea then went to wash up. The water was luke warm not hot enough to wash greasy dishes. We then went to get showered and the water temperature was the same. When we went to get showered in the morning it was ice cold. I informed the warden but we had no hot water till the afternoon. We rely on facilities during the Winter and that's why we stay on a site. We had drained down our Motorhome to prevent burst pipes so it was really inconvenient. I know these things happen, but if I stayed in a hotel and had no hot water our money would be refunded!

A wonderful stay

We have just returned after a lovely peaceful 8 night break. We were a little concerned about the toilet block after reading reviews about how outdated they were but we needn’t have worried. Yes they are due for refurb but they were spotless day and night. There are some wonderful walks from the sight and plenty to do and see within a few miles. My only gripe and it’s not the wardens fault at all as they can’t watch everyone. A caravan arrived on Friday afternoon and he put small orange cones all along the pitch next to us to save the pitch for his friends. We always travel with friends and would have loved to have saved a pitch for them but etiquette to fellow caravaners and motorhomers wouldn’t allow this. It was very busy on Friday and many an outfit drove up to the pitch only to see the cones and drive past. Very disappointing behaviour. Hope this isn’t going to be the norm !!!

Good quiet site but needing some improvement

Excellent wooded site with lots of walks right from the gates. Good dog walking on and off site. Local shops and pubs in Chirk, just down the road. Unfortuably the site reception looks slum and dull as nothing on sale displays in the reception. This site opens all round year so the maps and guide books should be provided as the site leaflet stated. As I stayed for five nights, I am disappointed with no maps or guide books. I am a keen walker all round year!
