Weekend Break

We have not been to this site before but will definitely be coming back! Approach by coming through the village and past railway station and up to Chirk Castle gates then a left and straight down the lane to the site. No obstacles and easy access in. Warmly greeted by wardens who left us to find our own pitch but were there if you needed them. Gated access in and once pitched you let the wardens know your number they provide you with an access fob. You come into the pitch area past the laundry, wash area and toilets and shower blocks which were clean and tidy although another similar block would serve the site better still. We were on an uneven hard standing but soon sorted that out. Site is surrounded by woodland which gives protection if there are high winds although we had lovely weather. Loads of rabbits but they were not pests and are used to the activities on the site so they just disappear as quickly as they come. A walk out of the site takes you into the village or up to the Castle which has wonderful grounds to take in. The site could do with a play area for children but there is the Castle. Not far from the canal and aquaduct so again lovely walks there too. Overall a lovely peaceful break and we shall be coming back.

Best of both worlds

Nice quite site but close to small town with good facilities. All staff were very friendly but did not impose themselves. A little tired in places but still an excellent site. Will definitely be returning.

Needs some TLC

Stayed here last week for 5 nights. Very nice welcome from the wardens but did not see them again for the duration of our stay, we are used to seeing staff around the site doing tidying up etc but not this time. Very few pitches to choose from when we arrived on Monday lunchtime and could not understand why some pitches had cones on them preventing people from using the pitch. The pitch next door but one to us had a cone on it for the whole time we were there but no-one ever used it. Mystery! The site is in a lovely setting but desperately needs some TLC, it needs all the hardstandings renewing for a start off. Why do some sites have thousands spent on refurbishment when they haven’t been open long (Bridlington for example) when others seem to be left to deteriorate - Henley is another site that needs some money spending on it. The information room is in a daft place, through the barrier but nowhere to park when you get there. What a waste. As a disabled visitor I never managed to get to the information room. The toilet block has seen better days and again needs refurbishment. Having said all that the site is well placed to visit Llangollen and the canals. Chirk aqueduct is on the doorstep. Chirk itself isn’t up to much but the castle and it’s grounds are lovely. After five nights at £26 a night we moved onto a beautiful privately owned site near Conwy which is way in front of LMP and costs £6 a night less - no brainer really. Come on CMC, get your act together or you are going to lose a lot of members by letting standards slip.

Used to love this site, not anymore!

This was 1 of our favourite sites on the network, not anymore sadly. We stayed for a week over Easter. The shower block is extremely tired and dated. Fittings rusting and horrid and some replaced with DIY bits, it is awful. Constant fluctuation between cold and hot in showers, we do not expect to pay for a weeks holiday and have cold uncomfortable showers! The whole site now looks tired and run down. Many muddy patches where people run cars over grass verges, which I know is a nightmare for wardens. However on previous visits these were promptly repaired, now it looks like many have been left a long time so everywhere looks messy. A pile of felled tree branches next to our pitch on arrival that were there all week. We had to move some to put awning lines in. Signs in the shower block warning there are problems with power and to be careful how many appliances you use. Our power kept fluctuating and tripping off. Even when we only had the fridge and heating on 1000w it kept tripping off! Eventually it went off all together. We rang our engineer as our mains lead had melted into the socket. Upon inspection there was nothing wrong with it and the engineer informed us when the power is fluctuating like that it can do this! So we had to cut our holiday a day short with a refusal of a refund for the last night that we lost. So we are VERY disappointed with this site and the Club. Paid for a week of cold showers and fluctuating power and now have the expense of a new mains cable and socket in our van that we believe was caused by the fluctuating power. This site needs sorting out or removing from the network as it no longer upto CC standards. We are extremely disappointed as we loved this site and it was previously run really well. Now we just feel like we were robbed and paid for something that was completely substandard. No one expects to pay for cold showers or have damage caused to their van by fluctuating power levels. VERY disappointed we paid for this holiday as the standard of the site made it feel far from a holiday. I will be contacting CC as I believe we should be refunded for this holiday. We paid for hot showers and a constant power supply and got neither. I have never left a review before but felt people should be told about the problems here. No one wants to go on holiday and experience this. This was previously such a lovely site and is in a great location, it is such a shame.

Great site for easy walks

The site is close by to Chirk Castle and the Llangollen canal where you can experience a host of easy walks. The site is well laid out although the toilet blocks seems a bit dated although spotlessly clean as expected. Ther3 is some background noise from the nearby factory...

Peaceful site and great for walkers and dog owners.

What a great site if you want peace and quite with great walks and walks with you dogs. Stayed here for a 3 night weekend in March . Loved every minute of it. Very easy access. Good size pitches. Very clean shower block. Very friendly staff. Dog walks. The wildlife just tops it off with squirrels, rabbits and birds. Nothing bad to say about this site. Looking forward to booking again later in the year, probably in the Autumn as this site is surrounded by trees. Book you won't be disappointed.

Cold february visit. 2018

We do love this site. We haven't been for a few years, and after this stay we wonder why we haven't been back sooner. The wardens were friendly and helpful, especially when we asked to stay an additional day. I can't comment on the shower block as we never use them. The site in general appears well kept, although in February, when people insist on driving over the grass, it can look in need of a bit of TLC. Location-wise, it is perfect. Yes you sometimes can hear a hum from a nearby factory, and there is sometimes a drinking chocolate smell from the nearby Cadbury factory. Chirk Castle is an easy walk/cycle, although in February half the castle is closed for cleaning/refurb. The National Trust really needs to make more effort in making these amazing buildings more interesting for visitors, it desperately needs more information notices and interactive displays. I'm glad we are members, as we would have been disappointed to have shelled out a fortune for what we experienced. That said, the castle is impressive, and the gardens are beautiful. The site is a mile or so from Chirk, which has great facilities for a small town/village. Try the Chirk Tandouri, the restaurant looks a little dated but the takeaway food we have had on various visits over the years has always been exceptional. The Castle Bistro is delightful, with lovely Italian food and various other options. It was very busy on a Saturday lunchtime. Chirk is only 20 minutes from beautiful Llangollen with so much for small boys to do. It reminds us of Sodor from Thomas The Tank Engine. Wrexham is a similar drive with a large Tesco, cinema and bowling alley, and most high street restaurants/stores. Lady Margaret's Park is well worth a visit. We will be back, but won't wait so long for a re-visit.

Expected a lot more from a CAMC site

On arrival to the site the wardens weren't very welcoming which is very different to every other CAMC site we've been to. The shower block is very dated and needs some essential work doing. The washing up facilities are outside and it was bitterly cold when we stayed. The baby and toddler room had a large dead cockroach in. The hot water ran out at 10am one morning and when we told the wardens they said no-one else had complained and when we left early again they re-iterated there was nothing wrong with the water as if we were making it up. There was a constant humming noise day and night form the wood factory which sits right next to the site that isn't mentioned anywhere. This makes sleep very difficult. Good location as close to Chirk castle, the canal and aqueduct and train station, lots of nice shops in Chirk itself. The play area was none existent but we had been made aware of this before hand by CAMC. We don't like leaving negative reviews but we felt so disappointed that we came home early from our holiday. We've also complained to CAMC so not just having a rant in a public forum. The site is apparently due for update in 2019-2020 so hopefully will be much better stay after this.
