Wooded Site

This was our first return visit since 2005. It is a pleasant enough site although a couple of aspects would put us off a further return visit especially in high season. Firstly the positives. It is an attractive site visually with lots of mature trees so almost Park Like. It is handy for exploring the Llangollen Canal and the Chirk Aqueduct is only a short walk away. The club could make that walk even shorter by having a gate onto the path in the far corner of the site! The toilet block is probably due for a makeover but it is both clean and perfectly serviceable. The WiFi although only rated as Bronze seemed to work perfectly for me with no drop-outs, perhaps because we were pitched next to one of the repeater aerials? Even managed to get a 4G signal on my phone. Now the less than positive. Firstly the motorhome service point desperately needs updating as it still requires drain covers to be lifted and the most stupid thing is that from some pitches it needs a double circuit of the site to use it!!! TV reception is reported as bad but no booster system, why? If you rely on satellite TV it is quite difficult to find a pitch with a clear view if the site is busy. BTW I don't expect the Club to cut down all the trees so I can get a TV picture but it is a frustration. We found a pitch (number 20) with an open aspect right opposite the toilet block, perfect picture. Unfortunately many of our fellow members thought it perfectly OK to use our pitch as a short cut, lesson learnt! My final gripe was the number of dogs on site, they must have outnumbered children by 10 to 1. Whilst I don't object to being next to outfits with one or even two dogs what I would object to is being next to someone with five dogs or four dogs! On a busy site you might not have a choice. Is it not time for the Club to consider a limit on the number of dogs as most commercial sites do. And perhaps I shouldn't mention the total disregard for the rules on lead length and not exercising dogs on site exhibited by some members!

Wonderful Location

Amazed by just how much there is to see and do from this site. Wonderful location whether you want to walk, cycle or set off in the car. Close proximity to the canal system is a real bonus with Chirk Castle being a short drive away, or about a twenty minute walk. The site is very tranquil, spacious pitches and generally well kept, flower displays beautiful and appreciated. Toilet blocks whilst kept very clean need updating, sure it is on the Club's 'to do' list Very enjoyable stay, we will return. - but why oh why was the heating on at full belt in the toilet block when temperatures outside were 24 degrees? Doors wide open too!!

amazing

having read previous reviews of this site (and those of many other sites) it amazes me how much emphasis is placed on the site itself, and the wardens. there will always be differences of opinion about rude wardens, nice wardens, clean toilet blocks etc etc, personally i am more interested in what is outside the camp borders, and this site, for those interested there is an absolute abundance of gems if you can detach yourself from petty niggles (what exactly do you want, its not the ritz you are staying at) this is the second time i have stayed here and still keep making discoveries, canal walks, steam train rides, castles by the bucket load, take it from me good site, pleasant wardens, great people we met and talked with on site, please other reviewers opinion of site useful, details of whats out and about even more helpful

Perfect!

Arrived on the 10th June, stayed in Blubell wood. Absolutely loved the site, dogs loved it, lots of lovely walks. Wardens were very good. Facilities exceptionally clean.

Great stopover

We stayed for three nights on our way from Cornwall to North Wales, and found the site a pleasant and peaceful place that left us thinking we must do this again! Our pitch was fine, I prefer a hard standing, but wonder if some of the grass pitches might be challenging to get level. I have to say, I have never seen so many bunnies frolicking about, not in the least scared by folk, beware holes. Just one thing to be aware of, the footpath that leads to the left from the main gate goes down a hill and opens suddenly onto a busy road on a bend, so I would advise dog owners to put your dog on a lead well before you get there. Will definitely be going back on our next north bound trip.

A beautifully, relaxing stay at Lady Margaret’s.

We have recently returned from spending two nights at Lady Margaret’s Park and couldn’t believe what a fantastic time we had. The site is beautifully maintained, with some lovely little individual touches such as the picnic bench on a green which we saw being put to good use. We had a lovely grass pitch down towards the bottom of the site where we enjoyed the glorious sunshine after cycling into Llangollen along the canal. A visit to Chirk Castle on our second day was another treat. The toilet block was beautifully maintained with bags of hot water. The assistant wardens were very friendly and approachable, with an excellent local knowledge of the area. We could not fault either the site or the warden’s and would highly recommend a stay here. We will certainly be back,

Not Impressed.

We arrived for a three night stay to find what appeared to be a reasonable site, found a pitch set up and sat out to relax. From there our impression went downhill. There were a lot of families with children and dogs, the children were riding bikes and running around the site, at one point riding straight through our pitch startling us and our dog who we had on a short tether, luckily and in line with club rules, however it was disheartening to see so many others wandering off leads or on very long tethers, which seems to be a growing trend. The toilet facilities we found to be functional only and lacked the usual club standards, a full refurbishment of these facilities is desperately required. Further it appears the play area is a field in the middle of the park which appeared covered in rabbit droppings, which outside of the club control, but is this really a good idea for a play area? Should there not be a properly constructed area which could possibly exclude the rabbits and provide children with a safe hygienic area to play? There are areas within the site that could be set aside for adults only have the club looked into this, is it something they will consider? At this point we decided to leave after only one night, something we have never done from a club site as very disappointed with the experience. Do not think we will be returning to this site any time soon.

Lady Margaret's Park

Beautiful site in lovely location. Everywhere so clean and tidy and the very best of wardens. Even over a really busy weekend they couldn't have given us more attention. Unfortunately my husband took Ill and was in a great deal of pain. I must admit I panicked and ran to the office for help. The warden calmed me down and came back to the caravan with me while his wife rang for an ambulance. My husband was admitted to Wrexham hospital and the warden was kind enough to offer to drive over to the hospital to bring me back to the site when I was ready to return. This was very late at night. He was back first thing in the morning to check that I was alright and if there was anything I needed. What great service and what an asset to the club are wardens like this. We can't wait to return. Beautiful Location

We stayed for three nights recently. Whilst I recognise an element of the previous review (the water pipes leaked when used and the service point was muddy and I couldn't see a drain) overall I found it a very pleasant place to stay. I did get the impression that the one warden couple felt under pressure having not had a break for over six days, but I still found them very helpful. They even meet us with a smile when we were delayed and could not arrive until after 6pm. For us, this was a lovely site in a fabulous location. There is a fabulous NT castle, a town with a great delicatessen and a train station all close by. The toilet block was clean and the site tidy and our pitch was also tidy.

Great location but the wardens have given up.

I used this site four years ago and was well aware of the facilities and surroundings It had previously been very well kept. It is in a great location for touring the local area. This site was the last but one stop for me on a tour to Scotland and I had stayed at some wonderful CMC sites in the previous days. I have a motorhome and on arrival at the sites motorhome service point, I found it was filthy beyond belief and a serious health hazard. The waste water pipe was leaking every time you turned the tap on and was lying in wet mud. Although the sun was out the mess around the service point showed that it had been that way for days. Whilst filling up my new vehicle I ended up with mud all over the carpets. I found myself one of the few available pitches and had to pull stinging nettles out of the hard standing before I could erect my awning. I stayed for three nights and saw all the site was covered in fall out from the trees, but during my stay, I did not see any of the wardens carry out any site maintenance whatsoever or as in the previous sites I had just stayed , walk around with a leaf blower. I spoke to what I believe to be the male assistant warden and asked him could he repair the leak at the motorhome service point as it was a health hazard. He told me .".No, the water board make us use those fittings". I explained the water pipe was lying in mud and perhaps the water board would not be happy with a water leak. In fact I have seen different fittings at other sites. he said "that's where people throw it". As there was no place for the pipe to be hung up I suggested to the warden that he fit a hose reel just like other sites. He said "no". I reminded the warden that he cannot just give up as it was his responsibility to maintain the site. His parting words were " write to the club". As a prolific user of club sites this is not the attitude I expect from a warden and I have taken photographs should the area manager wish to contact me. As previous reviewers have said, all the pitches had weeds or moss coming through and had not seen any work for years.
