Lady Margaret’s Park

We visited the site for a third time in October 2019. Despite mixed weather our stay was fine, with a visit to Erddig and Llangollen during our stay. The site is always popular and is kept in good condition by the wardens. The local walks are good, including to Chirk Castle and along the local canals, all possible within walking distance from the site. Chirk is fairly close by and is ok for small shopping trips, pubs are a mile or so away. Some of the hard standing pitches could do with some attention, in terms of new gravel, and the trees, as always, shade the site in many places throughout the day. This is a good site and not too far away from the Merseyside area for a short enjoyable stay.

Perfectly adequate site

Everything you expect from a club site really, nothing more and nothing less. Great access to Chirk Castle,.the village of Chirk and the canal walks which lead to the magnificent aquaducts.

October mid week break

We stopped here for the first time 25 years ago with three young children. At that time it was great and was close enough to home to make it convenient for a short break. It still is but the investment in the subsequent years looks to have been limited to resurfacing the access road and wi fi. The hardstandings are the poorest I’ve seen on a site for years. The heating in the toilet blocks didn’t work and the dog walk is a muddy paddle through the woods. However the rally field makes an excellent substitute. East Grinstead needs to visit and do something!!!! It’s a great site but falls far below the standard one expects nowadays. Make the rally field the dog walk, replace all the hardstandings, create a pedestrian shortcut to the town, and refurbish the toilet blocks and play area. You can do it. Look at Merrose Farm as an example!!!!! I’ll then be pleased to bring my grand daughter’s

unhelpful wardens

we stayed on this site last week, and the warden asked if we had been here before, I replied "no". And that was it end of conversation. Was not told of local attractions directions re walks or nothing. Therefor I don't think I will return.

A good location for things to do..

Had a lovely holiday at Lady Margeret site and actually extended our stay twice as there was so much to see and do in the area. Relaxed site with clean, warm and functioning facilities. Yes the toilet block is a little tired but was always clean and warm. (As most oufits have their own facilities perhaps one could always bypass the site block if it is found to be lacking!) Wardens very informative about the local area and places to go. The canal walks were great in both directions. The aqueducts are amazing if a little scary to walk over! The Castle grounds are great for walks and Gruffalo hunting. The Castle is within walking distance to visit. We had hoped to see the trees in autumn colours but they didn't oblige, must be beautiful when in full colour though. A great site and a credit to the hard work of the wardens.

Good Stop Over

Stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of our Mini World Tour of Wales. Nicely placed for a break on the way back to Tamworth from Neffyn. Didnt have much time to explore the area save a quick trip on the Llangollen Railway and a walk in Chirk. The greengrocer in the town does the most fantastic pickled onions. There is a large factory on the right as you approach the site, not the Cadbury place but the wood processing plant behind it. There is a little noise during the day but it can get intrusive at night. Wardens as ever were great, local knowledge was very good. My only problem was trees. It rained. Like having a clog dancing cat on the roof. £27.00 for a years wifi. Which keeps dropping out. Come on Club, sort it. Oh and the tv reception was also patchy.

Fabulous Location

Our first visit here for 5 nights in September - site was very busy but we managed to get a pitch on the flat by the exit. The path into town was just behind but there were no issues with noise or being seen. The site staff were lovely and helpful. The information room lacked some basic how to get to.....so we asked the wardens who were happy to assist. The facilities were good, but the annex which was open when main block was closed had 3 showers and just 1 toilet - a queue often formed there - would be better for more toilets. Surrounding area was just fabulous - lots to do - walking and cycling ( although the hill back is a killer!) We were there for heritage weekend and got into the castle & grounds free which was just an added bonus. We will definitely be coming back.

Excellent but little issues

this is a great site with really good staff. very dog friendly and very clean facilities BUT TV reception is very poor. it says this when you book but for a well established site such abasic facility should now be upgraded. wifi is additional cost. most sites we stay at now include this in the price, all the hotels and cafes in the village give it free. time to get up to speed with everyone else. we were placed on a sloping pitch which was only a problem after heavy rain when we could not get off. the site had no process or facilities to help us. i know we were not the only person who will have experienced this and they closed the grass sites while we were there to stop others suffering the problem. There should have been a tractor or similar to pull us off. we will visit again as we really enjoyed the location

Great site.......but

We stayed here for 5 nights recently, having been here a couple of times in the past. It is a lovely site in woodland settings. Fantastic fir dogs with loads of walks on site. Ideally situated to many places to visit and lovely walks from the site. Shops nearby as well as eateries. However, following our last visit 6 years ago we made comment about the very tired shower & toilet blocks. They were in dire need of refurbishment even then, so we were most surprised this time to see they are in exactly the same condition now with, but somewhat worse. Evidence of patching and painting over and black mould around the hand dryer makes things look awful. And they are so cramped. BUT, thanks to the Wardens, the blocks are immaculately clean. Thanks to them. In spite of the need for upgrading of the facilities blocks, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We just hope when we return in future there is a gleaming new shower & toilet block, redesigned and fit for purpose.

Great location

We've stayed here numerous times because we love the location and the fact that there are plenty of walks direct from the site or within a short drive. In addition, there are numerous places accessible by train from Chirk station. Chirk itself has all the necessary amenities: butcher, greengrocer, bakery, Spar supermarket, several pubs, takeaways, a community café and a nice bistro. The only downside to Lady Margaret's is that on this visit we really did notice that the shower block on site is long overdue an upgrade. The wardens obviously do their best to keep it clean & operational but it is really showing its age and will soon be barely fit for purpose. This is a very popular site (fully booked when we visited mid-September so presumably profitable) so come on CAMC, it's time for some investment.
