Silver hair and Bus Hopping?

Really enjoyed our stay at Hillhead very friendly and helpful staff, well kept site with lovely facilites. If like ourselves you have the benefit of a bus pass then you could not wish for a better location, two buses run past the site one to Brixham and the other to Paignton bus terminal, each running every hour. catch the bus to Brixham and ferry to Torquay great value for money. Go to Paignton and catch bus to Totnes, then river cruise the Dart to Dartmouth and at the end of your day catch ferry to Kingswear and bus back to Hillhead. That is great way to spend days out, no driving, no car park fees!!

Very Disappointing

Yes…I do appreciate it is about expectations, that our club membership is diverse, that the club does allow non members (in the hope that they will join) onto site and that the Wardens do their best…..sometimes under difficult circumstances.  However, I do expect a minimum standard….club rules as a starting point.  First up…Not all Wardens are suitable to ‘Front of House’ duties.  Phrases like “you have plenty of room” and “you have a mover, don’t you” when trying to pitch onto an 8 * 8 mtr sq plot with a 7.5mtr van from a 2mtr wide roadway…. are not customer friendly….  This was a serviced pitch at the lower end of site. (the only one available).  Next…and I know it is an emotive subject but the club rule ‘Dogs should be kept on a short lead at all times’ means exactly that…. not left to roam the site at will. Several members (?) were guilty of this during our stay…I very nearly ran over one dog which leaped out from behind a hedge…had I not hit the brakes hard it would have been a different story. Strange that the Wardens never took issue with this…Note for HO..please supply warning sign for entrance barrier to read “Warning, dogs roaming off lead”.. Toilet Blocks…what can I say, as said, our membership is diverse and obviously some members are happy to leave WC’s unflushed, strewn with paper and showers left in a dirty state. OK the sub contractors being used at Hillhead are not the normal standard but the Warden (preferably the one not best suited to ‘Front of House’) should be monitoring this… Site maintenance…and I appreciate this is a very large site with lots of hedges…but honestly, what a mess. From the moment you enter site (no welcoming flower tubs etc) you know this is one seriously neglected site. Note for HO. Sell the landscape equipment and subcontract to a professional company. WiFi…Although a Silver site…the WiFi on the serviced pitch area (lower) is next to useless..could be an issue with the repeater being lower than the hedge row…See previous comment on site maintenance.. Finally…and again an emotive subject…..We are renowned as a nation of dog lovers..myself include…..but yappy dogs which are not controlled by their owners is a no no…and for the little mutts to left in the van whilst the owners go out is not acceptable and should have their membership revoked….that’s if they are members !! Note for HO…please ask Wardens to give everyone who books on site with a dog(s)…the clubs leaflet relating to behaviour…

nice site

stayed for 5 nights and was very happy with the layout, not like most sites, nice little bays for 4/5 units, would not want to be there in high season time as this is a big site with club house and pool, bus stop just outside the gates and run 2 per hour to brixham and Paignton, get a week ticket because if you use it more than 4 times you will save, dogs allowed on bus but the charge £1, toilets very clean and TV reception very good

Excellent site for children

We took our 3 yr old granddaughter on holiday to this site in August. We were late arriving due to traffic and had a limited choice of pitch. The pitch that we ended up with was barely big enough for our caravan and awning, it was at the end of a row of non awning pitches and we feel should have had a similar classification. The site itself is in a perfect location for many local attractions including National Trust properties and Dartmouth. We shall visit this site again but not in school holidays. The wardens were very friendly and helpful and considering its size and how busy it was in August was very clean. I do, however, wonder why the toilets and showers get misused as they do at times after all we all have toilets and showers at home and wouldn't leave them without being flushed etc.

Can't be faulted@

Well, hand on heart, I have to say the wife and I absolutely love this place! Location is amazing with stunning views over the bay. The site is situated over several levels and is on a hill, but all the pitches look fabulous, and we love it that most of them have hedgerows around them giving a degree of privacy. The site is kept immaculate and the wardens are among the best we've met. A big plus is the bar and restaurant. Very reasonably priced and the food is great and piping hot. We can't wait to come back again next year, even though we're still here at the time of writing this review!!

August 2016

Arrived just after noon as time states on club website , to find only 4 pitches left , site seems to let people on anytime from 10am in the height of season !! Check in was good and friendly , warden were friendly ,site was clean and tidy , bins were sometimes full due to the volume of people on site , shower / toilet blocks were clean and tidy daily but by 5-6pm could of done with a quick mop over due to people coming from the swimming pool and tidying up after themselves mainly kids , I have one of my own lol. Site was busy with families but was never to noisy Play area and dog walk area great , shop on site was great lovely fresh baked bread and croissants in the morning , club house excellent good food and drinks well priced , staff very helpful . But stops outside entrance to site , close to Dartmouth , Brixham etc Have booked again for October school hols , great site

What a Difference a Year Makes

...really disappointed...We've been visiting Hillhead annually & this was our 5th visit but we're not revisiting next year. Young female assistant warden who booked us in was very friendly & welcoming but middle aged male assistant warden was miserable & rude - no interpersonal skills & questionable if he should be working with the public. Showers dirty - some of the worst I've ever seen on the network. As I understand it, the site was a warden couple down & using external contractors for shower cleaning...sack them! Reception area baskets & tubs were dead as were areas of planting across the rest of the site. Very, very disappointing. This site is extremely expensive & there's no denying the facilities there for children are excellent but overall, standards have slipped considerably.

Yappy Dogs ruined my Bank Holiday

We reversed into our very tiny pitch to the sound of 'yap yap yap'! "Should we find another pitch?" I asked my beloved. "No" he replied, "It'll be okay" Unfortunately, for us, it got worse, and worse and worse. The bloody things barked (yapped) at every person/dog/ car/ caravan/ motorhome/ tractor/ bike/ scooter/ and even their own kids!! 24/7! Fair enough, I'm not a dog owner, but I do quite like dogs. I just can't face the picking up of the poo thing - each to their own, just not for me! What I can't stand is yap yap yap yap yap all weekend! We were booked in to stay until Monday, but we decided to leave on Sunday. It just got too much! Why can't dog owners just shut their precious little things up! We were really looking forward to spending some quality time away from the stresses of work and ended up more stressed and spent £110 for two nights (and days) of torture! I'm not amused, impressed or relaxed!
