Stayed last week & found the staff welcoming.
Site clean & tidy as were the toilets & showers.
Site shop was well stocked & club house was enjoyable.
We did have a meal that was enjoyable & well priced.
Excellent - First booking on club site
Loved this site. Short stay October 2024. Site was quiet, which would be expected for time of year. Pitch was flat, facilities clean and tidy. Used the clubhouse a couple of times and food was good for price. Loved the fact that there is bus stop right outside site, Brixham to Kingswear.

Lovely site, good location.
3rd visit , Great site. Wardens are always helpful. Nicely spaced pitches over looking the sea at a distance. Easy to get a bus to Kingswear for Dartmouth. Clean showers & toilets. Only criticism is that all visits over 18 months the draught beer at the club house is heavily tainted making it undrinkable. Would definitely recommend for location and we will go again.
The best CAMC site I've visited this year!
I received a phone call from Andy (hope I got that right) at Hillhead on the morning of my departure from home to advise me of flooding on the M4/M5 interchange, this is above and beyond service from the staff and was a very much appreciated call allowing me to seek an alternative route. When I arrived I was met with happy, friendly faces who make your stay enjoyable from start to finish. I even managed to bag my third favourite pitch on a very busy site!! Facilities were clean as always, food is so good in the restaurant, entertainment is always enjoyable. Looking forward to squeezing in another stay before the years out.
Wonderful Staff.
We recently stayed at Hillhead to test out our new 8 meter Hobby. The site itself was as expected, as we had stayed there before. First Class.
However, when we came to leave, due to my inexperience, I managed to wedge the Hobby between a stone wall and a fence, on a downhill slope, and part grass. I was well and truly stuck, and TBH a little embarrassed . The team at Hillhead were in the middle of their cleaning duties, but dropped everything to come and help, including the taking down of the fence. It took a bit of scratching heads, but in the end we got there. They even allowed me to drive the wrong way round the one way system!
On top of all that, they kept telling me they had had to deal with worse. I am not sure they have, I think they were saving my embarrasement.
I have seen on occasions, that staff get criticised. The team at Hillhead are First Class, and deserve to be told. Thank You.
Great site, good location, much improved food.
We have been coming to Hillhead for 20 years now, initially with the kids in the school holidays, now they have grown up and we have retired it just the two of us wait for the schools to return before venturing out.
Hillhead has always been a favourite place due to its location and proximity to Dartmouth and Torbay, and the availability of a bus stop directly outside the site allowing me to leave the car for a few day.
What has prompted this review is the noticeable improvement in the restaurant meals this year, we haven’t always eaten in the club house or watched the entertainment however the week we had in early September both where very good.
We will certainly be back again.
Could be a great site!
Generally I think caravan club sites are very good but not family campsites!
I would not generally go to a caravan club site with a family but
I chose this campsite as it has facilities of a family campsite and it all reads as a family campsite but yet it belongs to the Caravan Club!!
Facilities as others have said are clean for about an hour then messy again but you don’t need shut them for 2 hours at a time to clean just like you do in all caravan club sites!! On family run sites, clean half the block then clean the other half like other private campsites and not to lock the family bathrooms!!
Another toilet block is needed at the top (the two toilets, sorry 1 as 1 was out of order) isn’t good enough and 1 tap for that whole top of the campsite isn’t great either!
Bar and restaurant need money spent on it as they look tired!
Better deals would be better but generally the food was good but sometimes 1.5 hours wait for food when you have children is poor and don’t tell me that there aren’t enough staff because we have all heard this before!!
The “arcade” room that use to be there but isn’t anymore needs to be there, Again the kids need somewhere to go when it’s raining.
Swimming pool was good and warm, just needs the bushes and branches cut back!!
You can not run this campsite the same way as your do with other quiet caravan club campsites for your retired guests!! Just the same as a hotel In central London is not the same as a hotel in the country!
So many strict rules ie the white posts and your exact positioning and if it isn’t exact (half a metre or so) then you are told to move it!!
The caravan club needs to start thinking and listening more to family’s (I’m 44) and are the future not your retired!
This could be a great campsite so either change your ways you do things (caravan club) or sell it!!
Nice Site
Nice site quite full choice your own pitch didn’t ask for awning which was a mistake as no awning pitches small and few and far between
Found one in the end with 3 other pitches - people on site really friendly - facilities well looked after very clean
The Bar and pool
Added bonus
Bus stop right outside the gate which we took to Kingwear & Dartmouth - lots to do around the area
Great Location but Loosing appeal?
We have been coming to this site for 13 years. Visiting at different times of the year, but always during August with our family. With the shop, outdoor swimming pool, club house. Which includes Bar, Food and entertainment. Has plenty on offer. However since the covid period, the site seems to be being run down? With the loss of the arcade, the variety of kids entertainment and an ebb of enthusiasm. The choice of real ales (bottle or pump) have gone from 3 or 4 to 1. The bar staff struggle to serve a full pint. Especially with the price of beer. This year the Bingo has stopped. (Due to 1 person complaining, - Couldn't get a seat on a busy night, so was told by staff) The site, although clean and pleasant, it seems to be more slack? The toilets are cleaned spotless every day. But within an hour its like some had dragged a zoo and a farm through them. - Can't blame the wardens! This year the site was invaded by Irish travelers who ruined the whole atmosphere for all staying there.
to Sum up. Hillhead has so much potential to become a great place it once was. The wardens do their best to keep the site clean, tidy and welcoming. The food is very nice looking and can only go on reviews as being 5*. Bar needs more choice and more welcoming staff. The entertainment "team" always do the best they can, with what they can do. Will still visit. but not in the summer months again.
Great family weekend
We stayed at Hillhead on 2 consecutive weekends. First weekend was with family. We made full use of the swimming pools, which were very pleasant and warm. We found all staff to be polite, friendly and accommodating.
Must add that the restaurant food has improved greatly from our visit last year. We had great views out to sea and pitches were all well kept.
