What a fantastic site - not only it has a lovely heated swimming pool, restaurant and bar with entertainment, the best feature for me was the dog walk field. It is huge!! my cockapoo could have a proper run, chase her ball and play with friends, whilst I was enjoying the best views, with the sea on all 3 sides of us. It was definitely the best spot of the whole campsite.
The shop was brilliant and from what I could see, most people used the local buses which stopped right outside the campsite.
We came during the water problem to show our support...and in practice the water issue was well handled with plenty of bottled water made available during our stay
I don't normally plan to visit the same campsite twice but I might just make an exception this time. Nothing to fault, it was a great site, with good facilities (spotless) and great customer service in all areas. They clearly care about making this the best experience for campers.
Now I do not normally "do " large sites, but what a lovely site, with attractions a bus ride away. Our pitch was in a hedged bay very similar to a french site, but what made this site even more appealing is some of the grass pitches, these are in groups of 3 or 4 some with lovely views out to sea.
The swimming pool was in use,and I have no idea it was that big, even with a kids pool next door, having a bar was nice to sit overlooking the pool with a pint.
We had two nights of entertainment, which actually wasn't bad.
We were there during the water issues, but even that was handled with bottled water available at reception, and in the information room.
There is a bus stop outside the site for visits to Brixham Painton and Torquay in one direction and Dartmouth and Kingswear in the other, these bus fares are held at £2.00 per trip.Bus passes are still free.
Dartmouth is lovely, but you will need to use a ferry across the River Dart.We visited the Slapton Sands area ,so unspoiled, but this involved taking the car across on the ferry.
Love a return visit, but will use a grass pitch next.
We just returned from another great stay at Hillhead. This stay was during the recent water issues that have plagued the area and the staff couldn't have made this any easier than they did. All precautions were thought out and actioned to ensure this made absolutely no difference to our short break. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, nothing is any trouble and they appear to work tirelessly to keep the site in perfect order. If I could give 11 out of 10 I would.
Looking forward to the next stay already!!
Third stay and we will keep returning. Cleanliness great, staff great, good entertainment. Easy access to nearby towns with a bus stop just outside the site.
Give it a go ! 👍🏻👍🏻
We just completed our first visit of the 2024 season at Hillhead and things are better than ever. The site was immaculate and the staff have obviously been busy since we last visited. We chose to eat in the club house on all three of our nights as the new menu looked so good, and it was!!
Entertainment on all nights was of a high standard with a bit of everything for everyone.
Looking forward to many more stays at our favourite CAMC site in 2024.
We are frequent visitors to Hillhead as they offer the perfect getaway in terms of location, facilities, cleanliness and above the warmest of staff who I believe deserve a special mention. From the moment you arrive you are welcomed by the first member of staff to set eyes on you and they are quick to point you in the right direction regarding check-in. Here you are met with a friendly face who makes the process quick and easy. Before you know it, parked up, feet up!!
The safe/secure dog walking field is a must for us as we an active Boxer who doesn't listen when off lead!!
Bar & Food has always been enjoyable with entertainment thrown in. On site shop has got us out of trouble a few times.
We haven't stayed on that many club sites but this is by far the best so far.
Kudos to the staff at Hillhead for a fantastic job which makes for a memorable break away.
Beautiful location with sea views. Really well kept site. Toilets and showers were spotlessly clean.
Really good dog area where dogs can run off lead.
Bar area was nice with good food too and dogs were allowed inside in part of it.
Reception staff were super friendly.
Pool was closed when we were there but it looked good as did the children's play area.
The site is really close to Brixham and is a good spot to explore Torbay from.
Back at Hillhead for the first time in 5 years and we still love it.
Friendly, quick check in and love to be able to choose our own pitch.
Managed to get a large hardstanding pitch with stunning sea view for 4 nights.
Brilliant facilities and always clean and warm.
Lots of water points, bins (including recycling) etc., around the site.
Well stocked shop on site (even out of the main season).
Bar and restaurant on site - for us the only negative during out stay! Called in for a drink first night, no real ale (had apparently sold out that day.....really?). We were told it would be on the next night so we planned to have our evening meal there. Arrived to find it was still off - settling apparently - and wouldn't be on until the next day! Their loss, no money spent there again. Didn't bother to go back during our next 2 nights. Entertainment on 3 out of our 4 nights.
Good walks from the site into Kingswear and Brixham, although the Brixham directions are VERY confusing (even our neighbour couldn't work it out and opted for the bus!).
Excellent bus service in the Torbay area, right from outside the site entrance. £2 per person per trip or £6.50 per person for the Torbay Day Rider. Well worth the money as we went from the site to Paignton, Babbacombe, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and back to the site all in one day.
It would've been 5* for us but dropped a * for the disappointing bar facilities.
