Another great break at a CC site

This was our first visit to Hawes but I'm certain we will return. It's a large site split into two halves by the entrance road with generously sized hard standing pitches, many of which have grassed areas behind or to the side. The location is brilliant, less than ten minutes into the town centre. We didn't come into contact with the wardens much but when we did we found them to be very friendly. The toilet block seemed a little crowded (but it was August Bank Holiday weekend) and possibly a little dated compared with others in the network although it was very clean. The dog walk is excellent - the best we have found on a CC site to date. There is a play field but no playground but the lovely town playground is only a five minute walk away. The three main pubs, The Crown, The Board Inn and The White Hart are all dog friendly. We ate the last two and enjoyed both and can speak from previous experience that The Crown is excellent although fully booked at the weekend. Needless to say we would recommend!

Another enjoyable visit

This was our second visit to the Hawes site and we really enjoyed it. We had a variety of weather but we did some great walking from the site and used the local bus to go to Leyburn. The site is extremely well kept and the wardens very friendly and helpful. The pitches are a good size and although busy you don't feel crowded. It is good to be able to walk into Hawes and browse the shops and linger in a tea shop!

Another nice visit

This is our second visit to this site in the August holidays and we enjoyed our stay as much as we did before. Great location, tidy site, great proximity to the town, walks, plenty of wildlife etc. Wardens great and friendly. When we stayed for 5 nights there was almost 50/50 camper vans and caravans. We had a good pitch for caravan and awnings without feeling crowded as some pitches might feel. Only issue for us was the aging shower block. All needs attention especially fixing the hand driers, one in gents was OOO and the other would not work for more than a second or so. We will return again and maybe there will be some changes in this respect.

Hawes August 2016

Fantastic site, walking distance of Hawes with lovely shops and dog friendly pubs (a good Spar open 8-6 when we were there and a lovely deli). Gorgeous fish and chip shop too ! We stayed for 2 weeks and appreciated the whole area. Had all sorts of weather (not unexpected !) but most days were perfect for walking. The table tennis table and games room was well used throughout our stay ... really good for the teenagers. Favourite places to go were Hardraw Force, Ingleton Falls, Dentdale and a fantastic walk from Muker to Keld. Our puppy 8 months old, really enjoyed the fantastic Pawnine way and rest of the dog walk !! The wardens were fantastic, friendly and informative. Not a criticism as such but just would like to add to the many reviews that suggest that the toilet block is in need of refurbishment. Of course it was clean and tidy but looking tired. Also would like to say that I was very lucky every time I needed to use the washing machine as there is only one !

Love the Pawnine Way

Brilliant dog walk, named the Pawnine Way and we loved the real Penine Way just off the site. Sheep were very noisy until quite late at night but that was not really a problem. Hawes village/town is lovely and easy walking distance with a great fish and chip shop. Facilities were good and the wardens were lovely and welcoming. There were a few nettles growing on our pitch but they were easily avoided as pitches were a good size. The area is beautiful and we will be back.

DOGS DELIGHT

Title is a give away, my two dogs had a great time in the huge dog play area. Site beautifully kept, lots of privacy, with very spacious pitches. Hawes a ten minute stroll away. A fantastic butcher and baker. A Spar, with fresh fruit and veg. Antique shops, gift shops and craft shops also a lovely jeweller's. There''s Rope Making during the week with a local museum and information desk. So lots to see. There was a craft fare when we were there. Lots of cafés and hotels. Most have tables outside. As previously mentioned, there were bikers, but all very pleasant. Only noisy as they arrived and later left. The walks are well sign posted and easily accessible from the site. Maps are available at reception. 8 walks from 3.5 to 8 miles in length. The time you take is up to the individual. We visited Hardraw Force, waterfall. A charge of £2.50 per adult, £1.75 per child. We had a lovely sunny day to visit, picnic tables a plenty, toilets too. We came for the weekend from Edinburgh. Would definitely be back.

A well placed site

The site is within easy walking distance of Hawes where there are various attractions, including a playground for the children. Staff are very friendly and the sites was well organised and clean. It was not particularly quiet since there were a number of children playing on bikes etc but we did see birds and there was an excellent dog walking field. Around the area are various walks which we plan to come back and explore further. Hawes was much noisier than expected with bikers and other tourists filling the street outside the pubs and the excellent chip shop. However, beyond the village, on our walk to Hardraw and back we did find some tranquillity.

Excellent Site!

We recently stayed on this site for 4 nights on our way back from Devon to Scotland and only wish we could have stayed much longer. The wardens were really friendly and went out of their way to help especially when we got delayed by an accident and arrived late. The site is immaculate and the dog exercise area is the best I have come across. Loads of super walks both from the site or just a short drive away. Although there isn't a large super market in Hawes there are plenty of shops to buy local produce and essentials and also plenty of places to eat out. Already looking forward to our next visit!

Hawes

Located about 5 mins walk from the village the site is generally quiet, although one side is near the road and you get a lot of bikers at weekends. All the pubs were dog friendly, although our favourite was the Green Dragon at Hardraw - not much changed in centuries and well worth a visit. There are enough shops in Hawes so the lack of a supermarket isn't an issue.

Second time just as good

Our second visit to Hawes was just as good as the first. Where to start ? The views from site are outstanding and panoramic, one of the best dog walks we have come across, all hardstanding well tended pitches, a bit of a slope to some, some road noise, but hey you are in the Dales and farmers have to work. Games room on site. Short level walk into Hawes, bus stop just before you get to town with frequent bus service. Lots of beautiful walks to be had from site and town. The creamery is a must visit if just for the cheese tasting (did plenty of that) Fish and chip shop in town is one of the best, though not dog friendly in the sit down side. Most pubs and cafes dog friendly, though the first pub on the right as you go into town wasn't very welcoming, seem to be just after your money, all others were fine. The town is fairly level so wheelchair or mobility scooter is usable, more drop down paving needed to aid crossing the road. Bit of a push up to the creamery so best with scooter, not being critical just practical from a disabled user point. A lovely time is there to be had from a lovely site, lots of interesting things to see and do, if you have been tempted but wary then take the plunge you won't regret it
