Great site in a fab location - staff brilliant!

Hubby & I stayed for 5 nights. We received a lovely welcome from Graham who said find a pitch then go to reception to pay. We had booked a blue peg pitch (no awning) so found one that backed onto the wall overlooking the River Ure. We always thought there was a basic rule that you don't pitch with hab doors facing your neighbour for privacy, so we had to go nose in. Pitch was fairly level but we realised we were quite a distance away from the bollard-our 25m EHU cable just about reached. However, there was no way our aerial cable would - so no TV for us that night. Then we got a neighbour who pitched with his hab door facing ours, as a result we tried to move our furniture around so we weren't actually facing into his unit, but it wasn't ideal. Next day hubby noticed an empty pitch that was nearer to a bollard so went to reception to see if we could move - no problem. Took us 10 minutes to unhook/rehook up, however we realised just how sloping the pitch was so we got onto our levellers, made a bit of difference, but at least now we had TV! We were out for the rest of the day. Next morning we realised the fridge had stopped working, we did the usual tests but came to the conclusion it was because of the severity of the slope. Back again to reception to ask if we could move again, we explained our predicament. They seemed to know that the pitch we were on had issues. However, Matt & Jules were very helpful and indicated on the site plan all the pitches we could move to, including white peg ones (with awning) as apparently they tend to be more level because they are a lot bigger - note to self for future bookings ;0) We unhooked again, Matt came over and advised the pitches he thought would be better, so same rigmarole again. We found a perfectly flat pitch! We left fridge off to let it settle down and went out. Upon our return, fridge on and ice within the hour. Happy days - so the rest of our stay was fab. As always the facilities were immaculate, all the staff were so friendly and it really is a lovely laid out site. Only 10 minute walk into Hawes, plenty of shops, pubs etc and plenty to do and see round about. The Dales Museum is brilliant and your ticket is valid for 7 days. We went to Wensleydale Creamery, really interesting and loads of cheese tasting - fill your boots! As you come out of the Hawes site and turn right it's only a 20 minute walk to Hardraw, gorgeous little village with a lovely pub next to the waterfall - fab! We got the little white bus to Leyburn, lovely little town. The bus went through some gorgeous Dales villages - though it was a 'white knuckle' ride in places! Opposite the White Hart pub there is a very steep cobbled foot path that takes you to Gayle, the path is paved all along so no muddy boots. Gayle Mill is worth a visit but only open on Thursdays. We had a brilliant 5 days at Hawes, despite the weather. Thoroughly recommend Hawes!

Wonderful

We have just returned from our 3 night stay at this wonderful site, we come here at least 2/3 times a year. We won't go into all the details as we have it before as have many other reviews. The main reason for the review is to thank the wonderful wardens, so helpful and informative 👍. The day we were meant to leave my car decided it didn't want to start 🙃 but again the wardens came to our aid, explained our situation but like a Knight in shining armour he came with his own car and jump leads and got us going 👍. Thanks to all the wardens on site, fantastic 😀 👏.

Excellent site

I don’t know why we haven’t stayed here before as it’s not far from home. An excellent site all round. The dog walk is a field of a few acres where dogs can be off lead. The staff were nice and friendly. We didn’t use the shower block often but I did call in and it was nice and clean with plenty of cubicles. There is plenty to visit in the vicinity and Hawes itself is a great town with many independent shops, which we visited often. We had walks out of site, Hardraw Force was great and we drove out to the surroundings places. We will be back. The only downside was cows in the barn mooing a lot, and some muck spreading smell but it is in the country so can be expected.

Great location

We stayed over Christmas, very friendly staff and a well run site. Short walking distance into Hawes, pubs and cafes, shops. Beautiful scenery, stayed many times, never disappoints.

Excellent site, everything we could wish for

From the moment we were welcomed by friendly and informative staff our stay was superb. The facilities were spotless. The large dog exercise field was the best we have ever come across, the chance to let the dogs off lead was wonderful and the view whilst throwing balls to energetic dogs was amazing! The drying room was a very welcome facility, as was the shop selling milk and bread which we needed, and other essentials. As we have come to expect from CAMC sites the facilities were more than adequate to meet my requirements as someone with limited mobility. We had a wonderful stay and went to May of the locations recommended in the leaflet. Only none disappointment, and not the fault of CAMC, the walk to Hardraw falls was not wheelchair or mobility scooter friendly despite being told by the owners that it was. The thick gravel caused the wheels to stick and the motor to stop working. Fortunately lovely walkers helped us back to our vehicle safely!

Great site

Good well kept site, good for walking local or further afield. Plenty of pubs and a brilliant fish shop. Unfortunately we pitched near the farm end and had to endure the farmyard dog barking for about 4 hrs every night starting at 2am and nothings to do with campsite.will book fully service pitch next time away from farm. Since I last came here they have changed the exit way out and some people find it hard to follow the one way system .That saiid the wardens do a good job keeping the site in good order

One of the best, but...

This site is excellent, certainly for location and facilities. The drive in is one of the best, certainly from the south. All went well as usual except that during our stay our dog became very ill and needed veterinary care. We found there was a vets in the village - Wensleydale Vets. Ok - just a consulting room in a portacabin on the auction mart site, but our dog got the injections and medication needed to effectively turn her round within 24 hours. I was so pleased to have found these vets that I thought others might want to know, as on the Useful Information-style handout your receive from the wardens on arrival, I think they only mention the vets in Bainbridge. I went up to the office to offer the information to come up against an amazing attitude from the warden who had a very strong opinion against these vets. Apparently they had visited the consulting room in the past but couldn't get the treatment they needed there, and were referred to Leyburn. I understand their frustration, but the vet's website clearly states that the Hawes office is just consulting and more serious cases requiring hospitalisation will be referred on. The warden wasn't interested in including the Wensleydale Vets listing in their handout which I think is wrong - these vets are walking distance and H24 callout once registered. The handout should be just useful local information based on proximity, not individual opinion. I was pretty staggered by the attitude I got. Disappointing blip in an otherwise excellent stay and weekend.

Our favourite club site

Just back from an amazing 11 night stay over Easter at Hawes. Love Hawes site, a great location in the heart of Wensleydale with amazing walking straight from site. Wardens friendly and helpful, site immaculately kept with modern facilities and the benefits of a drying room for wet coats and walking boots. A lovely babes rooms with pool tables and table tennis for family fun. Already booked for next year. Can’t wait to return

Peaceful Break

Just had a very peaceful week at this site. Have been many times before. Very quiet and restful. Lovely facilities and friendly wardens. Hawes is great - walk to The Green Dragon and see Hardraw Force. Wensleydale Creamery worth a visit and you can sample and buy cheeses - worth eating there too. Also recommend the White Hart for food. Short drive to Muker and Reeth - both worth a visit.
