Stayed for a week in July and we were lucky to have glorious sunshine for the first two days then a tremendous downpour and thunderstorm! New facilities block is fantastic, especially the baby and toddler room. One year old loved the bath, but the room could do with a lock on the inside of it. Dog walk is the biggest we've seen on site and was very popular, loved the fact it is called the Pawnine Way! Location is superb, couple of minutes walk into Hawes, with plenty nice pubs, shops, fantastic butchers and of course the Wensleydale Creamery. Enjoyed watching the low flying aircraft going over each day. Visited by ducks, rabbits and pheasants close to pitch. Pitch sizes are very generous. Nice layout and pleasant wardens. Would recommend to others and will definitely return. Only thing to let it down was new arrivals coming on to site way before 12 blocking the roundabout for us to exit with our van on.....members should remember the rules are there for a reason and not arrive before 12 like requested!!
Agree with the previous writer it is a good site for motorhomers...close to the town with a choice of walks to get there - a short walk by road or a longer lovely route through the fields by the river. Our dog loves this site - the dog walk itself is brilliant and if it is not enough to tire them there are numerous walks close to the site. He also enjoys his visits to the The Hart Inn as we do too.
Did not try any other eating places this time. We have been to this site often and considering we have a ferry journey to get there that speaks for itself and we hope to return again soon.
Thanks for a lovely stay.
This site is within a very easy walk in to Hawes with its cafes, pubs & shops. There's a very good butcher/bakery & of course the Wensledale Creamery. Lots of walking/cycling options from the site most of which can be circular. The dog walk was great, the showers flowed with good pressure & plenty of hot water. This was a much better location for us than a fairly recent stay in Leyburn - we would definitely return to Hawes.
We stayed here for 3 nights immediately after the new toilet block was opened.
The location and the site itself are really good and it has the best dog walking area I've seen on any CMC site. No complaints about the wardens. Amenities (apart from the below) are good ...
... apart from ... the new toilet block seems like a make-do-and mend exercise. Claustrophobic inside and with very basic fittings. Most important of all, there is only the one toilet block on this quite large site. It's quite a hike to it if you're in an outlying pitch (in particular, the full service pitches are miles away from it - perhaps someone thinks people on full service pitches don't need to use the toilet ?)
One other minor issue - the newly created hard standing pitches have had 10-12 cm of hardcore dumped across them by the contractor, but not properly rollered in. The result is that you need very long hard ground pegs in order to penetrate down to solid ground that will hold your awning.
Overall, slightly disappointed, it could have been much better.
We knew in advance that there would be no toilet block therefore we had to use our own facilities and use the chemical disposal point every day. As there was also no motorhome disposal point and we could not download our grey water tanks into containers, we had to empty these at our next site. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. I could cycle into Hawes to visit the shops and the excellent fish and chip shop. I did not find cycle racks in Hawes therefore I chained it up with the motorcyles in the car park.which would not have stopped someone putting the whole thing in a car boot so I did not stay long.
This is not one of the club's more aesthetically pleasing sites. If you enjoy open grassy areas and a feeling of spaciousness then this may not be for you. What grass there is is somewhat heavily weed infested in areas and the thin strips between pitches can be scruffy.
The available area has been used to its maximum to squeeze in pitches and it is more like a caravan park than I would expect from a club site but then the other side of that coin is that more people can stay during busy times. At the time of writing the newly refurbished northern side is about to open. Certainly that appears to be more attractive than the southern side with it's adjacent farm yard and large muck heap (a little too odorous on a warm day). Many of the pitches are on a sideways slope so levellers are needed. Bring a TV aerial extension lead to plug into the service point as the TV reception is very variable from not too bad to no signal.
On the plus side, dog owners have one of the best dog exercise areas I have seen; a whole meadow with a nicely mown path network. There is plenty of space to throw balls and my dog just loved it. There is a play area for children but nothing to play on. Its a case of bring your own.
Hawes centre is a short walk from the site.
This is a convenient site for using as a base for activities in the area, particularly hiking, as there are some interesting walks clustered around the area. There are club sites that I return to because I enjoy the site but Hawes is not one that I would add to that list.
Stayed here last week of May. Really quiet. Great without toilet block this time as site was even quieter than nomal! Wardens amazing. Thanks to them for making it a fantastic holiday.
First of all. lovely wardens who are doing the best to run the site with no facilities . 9 Cant understand why updates wernt completed in winter ??When I booked didn't know about the work going on but its such a lovely location and close to the town that you just get on with it . Cant understand though how the caravan club can justify £23 a night with no facilities . We liked the peace in the evening ( when building had finished .) Just one negative point is that sometimes the wardens need to knock off a bit earlier because on a bank holiday Friday at 5.45 to 6.15 is a bit late to be trimming hedges and the last thing campers want to hear having arrived on site is a noisy hedge trimmer . Hawes is a short 10 minute walk away with plentiful supply of shops pubs and the creamery easy to walk to. ( Creamery shop on main street . Walk 400 meters on left of main street and you will see a path just behind the fish and chip shop then its 10 minutes up hill across a field ) One negative is this site has a number of pitches where pitches are back to back so you can end up very close to the row behind . Some pitches have wonderful views and its a very nice site when its fully open

A lovely welcome from the wardens who are great - and it was thanks to them that we were made aware of the work that meant no facilities before we arrived - lack of usual facilities should be highlighted on screen when booking. We have been here numerous times and will be back again, once there are facilities again. It was good however that the wardens had requested new disposal facilites by the water and bins for toilets. We had a lovely time however as usual with some new walks this holiday, as well as our usual visits to Wensleydale Cheese and the Green Dragon at Hardraw. Lovely to see the baby rabbits around the site with the ducks and pheasants! A shame the workmen played music though as this spoiled the usual peace and quiet - it wasn't too loud but they shouldn't be doing this when people are on site on holiday.
